The author focuses on problems in the economy of the developing countries likely to arise as a consequence of mineral exploitation in the new territories. A general shortage of mineral resources, although predicted, should not uncritically be adopted as a sufficient explanation of the demonstrated interest of industrial enterprises in undertaking heavy investments in the new territories. The economic security claimed by institutions financing large-scale investments, may just as likely force the companies to seek options for long-term supplies from these areas, unhampered by the politically caused instabilities perceived in the Third World. This development may tend to push the developing countries into the role of subsidiary suppliers in the world market. The committees preparing the UN Conference on the Law of the Sea have so far taken no realistic measures to counteract this possibility, which may prove detrimental to the economies of several developing countries. The Conference will, in the opinion of the author, provide little but a settlement of disputed interests among the coastal states.

Over the last decades, agricultural co-operatives grew substantially in most developed and developing countries, often reaching dominant market positions. We inquire into the economic mechanism behind this growth, by elaborating on the relation between co-operative identity and co-operative benefits. We highlight the ability of agricultural co-operatives to co-ordinate large-scale production, to monitor work contributions and product quality, and to ensure economic independence of farmer members. Following the two principal streams in the economic literature, we distinguish between the conceptions of agricultural co-operatives as units of vertical integration and as firms characterized by common governance of collective entrepreneurial action and ability to reduce transaction costs and economic risk. We describe the financial and governance limitations of agricultural co-operatives while taking account of new co-operative models presenting institutional tools introduced to overcome these limitations. We conclude by suggesting directions for enhancing the role of co-operatives in agricultural and rural development.

In recent decades, tourism has shown itself as a key component of a modern economy and a sustainable source of innovative industries that ensure balanced development, especially in developing countries, most of which have the most popular resources for the tourism industry. The main goal of the work is presented in the idea of how to conserve natural reserves and use them rationally in the present and in the future, developing detailed plans and striving to increase the level of efficiency. The result of such work will lead to increased profits with the simultaneous organization of all types of activities related to tourism. Improving the effectiveness of strategies aimed at solving problems regarding sustainable development and changing patterns of production and consumption of tourism services requires a deep analysis of all aspects of the area under consideration, including the study of the effects of elements of the external environment under conditions of stability / instability. In other words, conducting a closer study of the planning functions in the systemic management processes of the tourism industry is quite relevant. The significance of this study lies in the fact that planning for sustainable development of the tourism sector is considered as an integral part of the overall plan for economic and social development, which requires the obligatory participation of all public and private stakeholders in the actual implementation of policies and strategies in this direction, since not only income, but and the responsibility for the development of this sector of the economy is shared between government and business. Accordingly, the author proposes to develop a methodology for indicative planning to achieve longterm improvement of tourism services in developing countries, including identifying aspects of modern problems faced by most economies in crisis and instability.

The article is devoted to the problem of functioning of private universities in society, determining their place in the educational process. A parallel is drawn with the work of private educational institutions in the United States, which have a glorious history of development dating back to the XVII century. The author of the article relies on the analysis of special literature on this issue, identifies success factors of American universities and “failure factors” of private universities in Yakutia, and also refers to a large-scale sociological study of graduates of the M. K. Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University. Research conducted under his leadership (Yakutsk, 469 respondents, 2016, 2017, 2018). The Author concludes that the history of private universities in Russia, which began in the 90s of the twentieth century, is quite dramatic. Branches of the capital's private universities operating in the province are at the greatest disadvantage today. The current situation requires a detailed sociological analysis, a comparative analysis of the performance of public and private universities and identification of the pros and cons of non-state universities on this basis, in order to develop recommendations for correcting the situation.

6559 Background: RADAR is the only independent academic pharmacovigilance organization funded exclusively by peer-reviewed grants. We describe the role of high quality case reports in the detection of drug safety signals. Methods: RADAR has identified 11 cancer-related adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Initial reports for small numbers of cases were obtained from our own institution, NU, (4 ADRs) or from referral centers (7 ADRs). Clinicians at these centers voluntarily provided brief case reports to RADAR, who submitted detailed case reports to the FDA/manufacturer. Clinicians were promised that patient/provider data would be kept confidential and that these data would be submitted as peer-reviewed manuscripts. Results: See Table. Conclusions: RADAR was successful at signal generation and amplification because it focused on quality, not quantity of case reports. Pharmacovigilance efforts that allow clinicians to complete brief forms, maintain confidentiality of patient and provider, and result in submission of collaborative manuscripts may improve early detection of drug safety signals initiatives in oncology. [Table: see text] No significant financial relationships to disclose.

The Great Silk Road for many centuries served as a connecting element between the cultures of East and West and on informative and communicative patency was a unique invention of world civilization. Not only the material wealth, but the cultural values of the East and the West, were carried along the Great Silk Road. In this regard, the study of the participation of Kyrgyz in this large-scale project of humanity, is of great scientific and practical importance. Despite the remoteness of the Kyrgyz Kaganate from the main path, the Kyrgyz actively participated not only in trade but also in cultural relations of the Eurasian subcontinent. According to the information of the eastern authors, the Kyrgyz had close trade and political ties with many countries of the East and Central Asia.

This study analyzes the links between public capital and growth using an econometric model of simultaneous equations, estimated on a panel of forty-three developing countries over the period 2003-2020. This growth model explains the determinants of GDP and public and private capital stocks. The accumulation of public, private and human capital generates externalities that are sources of endogenous growth. However, the formation of public capital generated a crowding out effect, to the detriment of that of private capital, because of differentiated budgetary constraints. Our results show that several developing countries have moved away from an optimal structure for the growth of sharing of available capital between the public and private sectors. In doing so, are institutions a prerequisite for the economic development of African countries.

Currently, there is a growing number of businesses which organize their operations in the form of projects. One of the key success factors in the area of project management is building successful relationships with project stakeholders. Using stakeholder theory perspective and looking through the lens of family involvement, the study addresses two research questions: 1. how do family firms perceive the difficulty in building relationships with external stakeholders compared to other project management difficulties; 2. does organizing work in the form of projects redefine the significance of family involvement in the difficulties of building relationships with external stakeholders. To answer these questions, 154 Polish family-owned enterprises, considered as representatives of Eastern European emerging economies, were surveyed. The results indicate that family involvement strongly influences the difficulties in building relationships with external stakeholders, but only in those companies which at the time of the survey were not managing projects. In the firms employing project management practices, only the factor related to increasing the number of employees had a facilitating effect on the studied phenomenon. On the contrary, in the case of family firms not managing projects, the growth in the number of employees increased the difficulty in building relationships with external stakeholders. The findings add to the research on the role of family involvement in building relationships with a firm’s external stakeholders.
