In the pig breeding, a large share of the production cost is accounted for by the cost of electricity and heat. Reducing energy costs is one of the important tasks of the industry. It is important to identify and study modern technologies and equipment for pig farming due to the constant increase in electricity tariffs, significant energy costs for creating and maintaining a microclimate. (Research purpose) The research purpose is in an analysis of modern available technologies and equipment for agricultural production, including pig farming, allowing to reduce the cost of production. (Materials and methods) Authors used a method for determining the standard indicators of energy consumption of energy resources in the pig industry, based on the calculation and analytical method. The article presents an analyze of automated microclimate management systems in pig breeding complexes, taking into account the individual characteristics of farms produced by OWEN. (Results and discussion) Automated microclimate management systems can improve the productivity of pig farms; reduce the cost of electrical and thermal energy, reduce the number of diseases of animal from hypothermia, high humidity or temperature in the room, feed consumption; monitor the chemical composition of the air. The article considers three options for creating a microclimate in rooms with animals, taking into account the individual characteristics of enterprises. (Conclusions) The profitability of pig production depend on the level of technical equipment of farms, automation, and the use of energy-saving technologies and equipment. The use of innovations in agricultural production makes it possible to increase labor productivity up to three times, and savings due to reduced feed costs can reach several million rubles a year.

Ethical and commercial issues are associated with animal welfare in pig farming, in that sense, the objective of this work was to evaluate physiological and blood parameters in addition to weight gain in pigs raised with and without sunlight and environmental enrichment (EE), as well as to correlate physiological and environmental parameters as welfare indicators. Twenty-four pigs distributed in a randomized block design with a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement were used. Blocks were represented by shifts (morning and afternoon), and factors by the presence or absence of EE and sunlight. Blood and environmental parameters of thermal comfort, in addition to weight gain, were registered. Physiological parameters showed to be shift dependent (p < 0.05), with the afternoon shift being superior when compared to the morning shift, thus indicating climate influence. Weight gain showed significant interactions (p < 0.05) in the presence and absence of sunlight and EE in the stalls. Temperature correlated positively with the physiological parameters. Moisture showed negative correlations with physiological parameters. The packed cell volume was lower (p < 0.05) in the presence of EE. The EE provides physiological well-being and weight gain for pigs in the nursery stage, especially when sunlight was absent in the stalls.

ABSTRAKMengetahui seberapa jauh aplikasi penggunaan ternak babi dalam kebun masyarakat Arfak di Pegunungan Arfak penting untuk dipelajari karena Arfak memiliki kondisi agroekologi penting. Masyarakat Arfak memiliki kearifan dalam bertani serta  memiliki hubungan yang dekat dengan ternak babi. Hasil tinjauan di lapang dan referensi menunjukkan bahwa ternak babi relatif masih digunakan pada lahan pertanian atau kebun keluarga masyarakat Arfak sebagai hewan penggembur tanah (soil dozer). Ternak babi, kebun dan masyarakat Arfak saling berinteraksi dengan memberikan peranan kepada masing-masing komponen. Kelebihan ternak babi sebagai penggembur tanah kebun biologis mampu membantu petani orang Arfak. Terdapat 7 keunggulan penggunaan ternak babi dalam kebun. Namun jumlah ternak yang dapat dimasukkan serta sejauhmana kinerja ternak babi dalam setiap luasan lahan secara ekonomis, ekologis dan sosiologis masih harus dikaji secara intensif. ABSTRACTKnowing how far the application of pig farming in Arfak people 's gardens in the Arfak Mountains is important to learn because Arfak has important agro ecological conditions, the Arfak people have wisdom in farming and have a close relationship with pigs. The results of the review in the field and references show that the pigs are relatively still used on agricultural land or Arfak people's family farms as soil dozers. Pigs and gardens and Arfak people interact with each other by providing service to each component. The advantages of pigs as biological gardeners are able to help Arfak farmers. There are 7 benefits of using pigs as bio-tillage inside Arfak household gardens. However, the number of livestock that can be included and the extent to which the performance of pigs in each area of land economically, ecologically and sociologically, must still be studied intensively.

<p>The objective of this study was to compare the characteristics of pig farming<br />performances of the three different agro-ecological zones, i.e. at island, coastal and lowland ecological zones. Sites represented island pig farmers were Biak and Yapen. Samples subsequently were taken from Samofa District and South Yapen District comprised of Famboaman, Anotaurei, Mariadei and Mantembu villages. Sites in Manokwari were taken from six districts and 15 villages. Characteristic of farmers and pig keeping systems such as household information, pig population and reproduction, and social technical aspects, were studied. Participatory research using interview and observation was separately done towards 155 pig farmers. Statistical analysis used Duncan multiple comparisons and Chi-square (χ2) were used to analyse the data. Coastal pig farmers are younger than island and lowland pig farmers. They have middle number of experiences compared to island pig farmers. The majority of farmers is men-pig farmers and has adequate household members. It was found that many are not educated and are elementary graduation. Altough their objectives are directed to commercial production system. Coastal pig farmers have higher number of animal population added to this is herd size per household compared to the two other agro-ecological zones. Feeding systems are practised in proper combination, such as feeding ration of physiological ages every day and feeding processing. Natural mating is practised by the majority of pig farmers. Several of pig farmers know the sign of oestrus, gestating and practising procedures of breed selection. Distance to market and distance to town are experienced by lowland pig farmers compared to coastal and island pig farmers. Perception of pig farmers is satisfy and they have lack of extensionist visiting, lack in middlemen visiting and positive social acceptances.</p><p>Key words: pig farming systems, agro-ecological zones, pig production, West Papua</p>
