We previously found mild hypothermia (34–36°C), induced before cardiac arrest, to improve neurologic outcome. In this study we used a reproducible dog model to evaluate mild hypothermia by head cooling during arrest, continued with systemic cooling (34°C) during recirculation and for 1 h after arrest. In four groups of dogs, ventricular fibrillation (no flow) of 12.5 min at 37.5°C was reversed with cardiopulmonary bypass and defibrillation in ≤5 min, and followed by controlled ventilation to 20 h and intensive care to 96 h. In Study A we resuscitated with normotension and normal hematocrit; Control Group A-I (n = 12) was maintained normothermic, while Treatment Group A-II (n = 10) was treated with hypothermia. In Study B we resuscitated with hypertension and hemodilution. Control Group B-I (n = 12) was maintained no rmo thermic (6 of 12 were not hemodiluted), while Treatment Group B-II (n = 10) was treated with hypothermia. Best overall performance categories (OPCs) achieved between 24 and 96 h postarrest were in Group A-I: OPC 1 (normal) in 0 of 12 dogs, OPC 2 (moderate disability) in 2, OPC 3 (severe disability) in 7, and OPC 4 (coma) in 3 dogs. In Group A-II, OPC 1 was achieved in 5 of 10 dogs (p < 0.01), OPC 2 in 4 (p < 0.001), OPC 3 in 1, and OPC 4 in 0 dogs. In Group B-I, OPC 1 was achieved in 0 of 12 dogs, OPC 2 in 6, OPC 3 in 5, and OPC 4 in 1 dog. In Group B-II, OPC 1 was achieved in 6 of 10 dogs (p < 0.01), OPC 2 in 4 (p < 0.05), and OPC 3 or 4 in 0 dogs. Mean neurologic deficit and brain histopathologic damage scores showed similar significant group differences. Morphologic myocardial damage scores were the same in all four groups. We conclude that mild brain cooling during and after insult improves neurologic outcome after cardiac arrest.

This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of papaya leaf (Carica papaya) and kalo jeera (Nigella sativa) seeds powdered supplementation in drinking water as a growth promoter in broiler chickens. A total of 20 Cobb-500 broiler chicks (day-old) were purchased from local hatchery (Nourish Poultry and Hatchery Ltd.) and after seven days of acclimatization chicks were randomly divided into two groups, A (n=10) and B (n=10). The group A was kept as a control and not treated. The group B was supplemented with papaya leaf and kalo jeera powder with feed and water. Weekly observations were recorded for live body weight gain up to 5th weeks and hematological tests were performed at 35th day’s age of broiler to search for hematological changes between control (A) and treatment (B) groups. The initial body weight of groups A and B on 1st were 41.00±0.56 gm and 41.50±0.35 gm, respectively and after 35th day of experiment final body weight were 1470±57.35 gm and 1720±58.56 gm, respectively and economics of production were analyzed and found that net profit per broiler was Tk. 8.91 and Tk. 20.69, respectively. The treatment group B was recorded statistically significant (at 1% level) increased (17.00%) for live body weight than that of control group A. The hematological parameters total erythrocyte count (TEC), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and hemoglobin (Hb) estimation value of treatment group shows significant difference, while hemoglobin estimation does not show significant difference from control group. The results suggest that better growth performance could be achieved in broilers supplemented with papaya leaf and kalo jeera seeds.

The current study focuses on the importance of integrating peer- and self-assessment in
teaching English as a second/foreign language in Saudi Arabia. It pays special attention to the
mechanisms by which Saudi EFL learners can improve their English writing skills if they
engage in peer- and self-assessment regularly. To this end, the researcher administered a
writing composition task to measure the participants’ ability to express themselves in good
English, focusing on the coherence, cohesion, word choice, spelling, punctuation, and layout
of their essays. The researcher utilised the experimental two-groups design of a pre-test and a
post-test, in order to evaluate the participants’ performance prior to the application of the
treatment (i.e. peer- and self-assessment) and after it. For the purpose of the study, the
participants were divided into two groups: students in group A (i.e. the treatment group)
engaged in peer- and self-assessment regularly throughout the term, whilst students in group
B (i.e. the control group) did not. The results of group A on the pre-test and post-test were
compared to those of group B to determine whether the treatment had any impact on their
performance. The results reveal that group A outperformed their group B counterparts on the
post-test. The statistical analysis demonstrates that the difference between the results of the
two groups was statistically significant, suggesting that the treatment contributed positively to
the performance of the treatment group. Finally, the study concludes with recommendations
for further research.

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is an endotoxin from the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, which has an important role in the occurrence of sepsis. Exposure to LPS will stimulate increase of nitric oxide (NO). Nitric oxide is a bioregulator of apoptosis and has some sepsis prognostic role of apoptosis regulators within the gastrointestinal cells. The objective of the study is to know if endotoxemia induces an increase in NO levels and histopathology scores as well as the existing relationship between them. This study is an observational intervention. The subjects were 48 male mice Balb/C, divided into 2 groups. The samples consisted of 24 tail as control group (group A) and 24 as treatment group (group B). The A group as well as the B group is divided into 4 subgroups according to the time of termination. The levels of NO were examined by Griess method. Histopathology score was examined by HE and read as a score of 0–5. There was a statistically significant difference between the mean NO in the treatment group with the control group at the termination of the group of 12h (p=0.009), 24h (p=0.015), 36h (p=0.014), 48h (p=0.002) and the whole group (p=0.0001), as well as between the mean histopathology score at the termination time of 12 h (p=0.0001), 24h (p=0.0001), 36h (p=0.0001), 48h (p=0465) and the whole group (p=0.0001). Increase in NO and histopathology scores in all groups of mice (r=0.527) showed a statistically significant correlation. NO levels and histopathology scores are increased during endotoxemia and thus have a significant correlation.

This study was conducted to explore the potential of adjuvant for the production of immunoglobulin Y (IgY) as antistreptococcosis in layer chicken with mass production orientation. Enterococcus faecalis which causes streptococcosis in the red tilapia was selected as a candidateantigen. The production of immunoglobulin Y (IgY) was carried out on Isa Brown layer chickens and aged around 20 weeks. Furthermore, thechickens were grouped into four groups (A, B, C, and D groups), each consisting of three chickens based on the type of adjuvant, while twochickens were used as a control group. Each group was treated by giving MONTANIDE™ ISA 71R VG adjuvant (A), Freund's adjuvant (B), aluminum potassium sulphate adjuvant (KAl(SO4)2∙12H2O) concentration of 50 ppm in pH 7 (C), and only antigens without adjuvant (D). Chickens were kept for 35 days and each week was checked for presence the IgY antigen in the serum and egg yolk. Booster was conducted on 14th and 28th days of maintenance. The results showed that IgY in treatment group A was detected on day 28 in the serum and day 35 in the yolk. Whereas the treatment group B could be detected on day 35 in the serum. However, the IgY was not detected in the serum and yolk in C, D, and control groups until the end of the maintenance. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the appearance of IgY in serum and yolk in a relatively fast time is obtained in the combination of Enterococcus faecalis antigen with the emulsion of water-in-oil adjuvant (SEPPICMONTANIDE™ ISA 71R VG) compared to the other types of adjuvant that use in this study.

Objective External humeral epicondylitis, also known as “tennis elbow”, is a chronic motor inflammation caused by non-normative movement or excessive pressure and torsion of the forearm tendon and bone. The external humeral epicondylitis occursmostly in tennis, badminton, table tennis, fencing, throwing, gymnastics and other sport programs. Because it has the highest incidence in tennis, everyone is used to call it "tennis elbow". Those who have repeatedly used force to do elbow activities in daily life, such as housewives, bricklayers, woodworkers, etc., are also susceptible to this disease. Therefore, the disease affects a large number of occupations and sports. The conventional medical nsurgery leads to a large wound area and a long recovery time, which is easy to shorten the sportlife of the patient. The conservative Chinese medicine ginger moxibustion therapy could clear the meridians and organs by stimulating the acupoint of the human body. This moxibustion therapy has the advantages of small trauma, low cost, comprehensive treatment and small side effects by adjusting the blood, and would not bring inconvenience to patients' daily life and normal exercises. This paper aims to use a conservative treatment-Traditional Chinese medicine ginger moxibustion and its composite therapy to rehabilitate the external humeral epicondylitis systematically and compare the rehabilitation effects of different compound therapy to provide a basis for tennis elbow’s rehabilitation. Methods Eighty-four tennis elbow patients were divided into three treatment groups and one control group randomly, subject and observer-double-blind, third-party evaluation. The treatment groups included a group of ginger moxibustion named A,a group of floating needle combined with ginger moxibustion named B, and a group of Yunnan BaiYao aerosol combined with ginger moxibustion named C, the control group named D, 21 people/group. In the treatment group A, acupuncture points were taken from A’shi, Quchi and Hand Sanli, ginger moxibustion treatment,5 moxibustion columns/time, once every other day, 5 times as a course of treatment, observethe effect after two courses; The group B was first treated with floating needles at three acupoints, and after 2 minutes treated as group A, 5 moxibustion columns each time, once every other day, 5 times as a course of treatment, observe the effect after two courses as well; The group C was first sprayed on Yunnan Baiyaoaeroso in three acupoints, two minutes later, treated as group A, use 5 moxibustion columns each time, once every other day, 5 times as a course of treatment, observe the effect after two courses. The control group was treated with ginger laser treatment at the same acupoints, keep as the same treatment as group A, observethe effect after two courses. The shoulder-arm-hand disability score (DASH) was use for the main observation index, and pain (VAS), painless grip strength (PFGS) and pressure pain threshold (PPT) were meanwhile used as secondary observation indicators. Results Four sets of experimental data were submitted to Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The analysis of results showed that patients in treatment groups improved their function and relieved the pain significantly much better than the ginger-fake laser control group within 3-12 months of treatment completion. In the treatment group, the total effective rate of the group A-- treated with ginger-free moxibustion was 80%, and the total effective rate of the group C --treated with Yunnan Bai Yao aerosol combined with ginger moxibustion was 85%,and the total effective rate of the group B--treatment with floating needle combined with ginger moxibustion was 92%, but the total effective rate of the control group was 10%. Conclusions The clinical recovery evaluation and index assessment results showed that ginger moxibustion and its combination therapy had significant curative effects on patients suffering external humeral epicondylitis. The addition of auxiliary means also promoted the rehabilitation effects, further proving the Traditional Chinese medical effects. The method could significantly improve the rehabilitation of external humeral epicondylitis. The research made a bold exploration for the multi-organizational cooperation mode of TCM compound therapy in the field of sport injury habilitation, and opened a new way for its application ofclinical research.
