AbstractGeometric diodes, which take advantage of geometric asymmetry to achieve current flow preference, are promising for THz current rectification. Previous studies relate geometric diodes’ rectification to quantum coherent or ballistic transport, which is fragile and critical of the high-quality transport system. Here we propose a different physical mechanism and demonstrate a robust current rectification originating from the asymmetric bias induced barrier lowering, which generally applies to common semiconductors in normal environments. Key factors to the diode’s rectification are carefully analyzed, and an intrinsic rectification ability at up to 1.1 THz is demonstrated.

The management of out-of-hospital, atraumatic cardiac arrest has changed over the past decade. This case details the evidence-based changes in care that optimize the chance of neurologically intact survival. The key factors include immediate, continuous, high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation with minimal interruptions, early defibrillation, and the use of capnography to assess resuscitative efforts. The orchestration of resuscitative efforts is a bundle of care that must all be met to provide the patient the best chance of survival. Furthermore, this case illustrates the key points of postarrest care and touches on termination of resuscitation. This chapter examines the case of emergency medical services call for an unresponsive patient in cardiac arrest on arrival.

An optimized synthesis route was applied for controlling the preparation of CdSe quantum dots (QDs) in an aqueous solution. Some key factors which influencing the properties of CdSe QDs, such as initial pH, ratio of precursor etc, were investigated. The as-prepared products have been characterized by TEM, XPS, XRD, UV-Vis and fluorescence (FL) spectra. The result showed that the high-quality CdSe QDs with 3 nm was obtained. The experiments also conformed that the CdSe QDs with better FL properties were obtained with properly initial pH, 5, suitably [Cd2+] / [SeSO3 2-], range from 1:0.25 to 1:0.75 and the ratio of [Cd2+] / [TGA] is 1:2~1:3.

The prevalence of opportunistic behaviors in agri-food production and circulation results in frequent quality accidents in emerging economies. Numerous researches have discussed effective countermeasures to this problem, but few of them focus on the effectiveness and stability of quality assurance systems. Owing to the bounded rationality and information asymmetry, the dynamic quality game among producers, marketers, and consumers has significant characteristics of complexity. This paper aims at discussing the farmer-supermarket direct purchase’s contributions to ensure the agri-food quality and analyzing the effectiveness, stability, and key factors of this new industrial organization. Based on the evolutionary game theory, we establish the trilateral-game payoff matrix, build up the replicator dynamic equations, and discuss possible evolutionary stable states. The simulation results show that the evolutionary system converges to desired stability faster, when the high-quality agri-food’s market premium increases and the penalty for violating quality standards increases. Furthermore, when farmers share more high-quality agri-food’s market premiums and marketers compensate more for violating the quality standards than before, the evolutionary system also converges to desired stability faster. Therefore, the quality information tracing technology, farmers and marketers’ fair distribution of profits and risks, and consumers’ capabilities to safeguard their legal rights are the three key factors to maintain the effectiveness and stability of quality assurance systems.

Graphene is a fascinating material for exploring fundamental science questions as well as a potential building block for novel electronic applications. In order to realize the full potential of this material the fabrication techniques of graphene devices, still in their infancy, need to be refined to better isolate the graphene layer from the environment. We present results from a study on the influence of extrinsic factors on the quality of graphene devices including material defects, lithography, doping by metallic leads and the substrate. The main finding is that trapped Coulomb scatterers associated with the substrate are the primary factor reducing the quality of graphene devices. A fabrication scheme is proposed to produce high quality graphene devices dependably and reproducibly. In these devices, the transport properties approach theoretical predictions of ballistic transport.

At present, charcoal briquette fuel, a source of heat energy and mostly made from agricultural waste materials, are popular in the markets because of their high constant heat output. It helps reduce pollution, and produce no sparks while burning, but varied due to different types of materials, burning protocols, temperature, and pressure used. In this study, the research team have studied the characteristics of high quality fuel briquettes for possible further development of standard indicators of briquette fuel production process. In the study, key factors of the Charcoal fuel features composed of high qualities of physical characteristics and electrical induction. Activated carbon and coconut shell charcoal types were showed to be great materials. The production process involved aerobic burning at 800-900oC for at least 3 hours, grinding and mixing with starch binder. The briquettes’ electrical conductivity was especially lower than 10 kΩ. High heat production was obtained at least 6000 Cal/g while ground charcoal possessed with the sizes were varied. Under microscopy, the charcoal particle sizes were in a range of 50-100 μm for 30-50% (w/w), size of 10-50 μm for 20-40% (w/w) and distinctive numbers of holes greater than 300 μ to 1 mm were rarely observed. Therefore, with key characteristics of charcoal briquette fuel, it could be further applied for development the indicator as well as instruments to measure the quality of the briquette.
