AbstractIntensified process based on subcritical water conditions (120 °C and 1.5 atm, for 2 h) was utilized to prepare thyme oil in water (O/W) nanoemulsions. In this technique, water and xanthan gum, as green solvent and natural microbial emulsifier, were utilized. Results of gas chromatography revealed that Thymol and Carvacrol were two main bioactive compounds of the extracted thyme oil. Effects of amounts of xanthan gum (0.05–0.25 g) and thyme essential oil (0.2–0.8 mL) on size of oil nanodroplets and polydispersity index (PDI) of the resulted nanoemulsions were evaluated using response surface methodology. Results demonstrated that the produced thyme O/W nanoemulsion by 0.242 mL thyme oil and 0.140 g xanthan gum had smallest average nanodroplet size (150 nm) and PDI (0.088). Furthermore, monodispersed and spherical in shape thyme oil nanodroplets were provided in the nanoemulsion using these optimal conditions with zeta potential value of −10.1 mV and antioxidant activity of 17.4%. Results also indicated that this prepared nanoemulsion had high fungicidal and bactericidal activities toward Penicillium digitatum and Escherichia coli, respectively.

AbstractA novel and efficient synthesis of eight 5-aryl-1,3-dimethyl-2,4-dioxo-1,2,3,4,5,8-hexahydropyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-7-carboxylic acids using a TiO2/SiO2 nanocomposite with a molar ratio of 1:1 as a recyclable heterogeneous catalyst is described. The desired products, five of which are new, are formed in short reaction times (2–3 h) with high to excellent yields (94%–98%) under very moderate reaction conditions (room temperature, aqueous media).

We present here a new proposal for the “one pot” generation of new 4-thiazolidinones (9a–e) through a multicomponent reaction under microwave irradiation conditions, using aromatic and heteroaromatic amines (8a–e), absolute ethanol as a “green” solvent and modifying the aldehyde group in the glycosidic residue, synthesized from D-mannitol. The study is focused in the variation of the irradiation times and the concentration of thioglycolic acid in order to study the possibility of controlling the structure and/or stereochemistry of the products formed in the reaction. Thiazolidinones 9a–d were obtained with a 69–82% The generation of the corresponding reaction products were monitored by TLC and CG-MS, taking reaction aliquots. The conditions reaction proved to be chemoselective depending on the excess of acid and irradiation times.

AbstractThe scope of mesoporous molecular sieves, Al-MCM-41, as catalysts in the ozone initiated fuctionalisation of higher n-alkanes at 20 ± 1 °C and ~1 atm conditions is investigated. Oxygen is introduced into carbonaceous site in the product molecule forming 2-, 3- and 4- keto- isomers as main products and carboxylic acids as minor products. The % conversion, reaction products and selectivity for the catalysed reactions are compared. In presence of catalysts, the relative selectivity towards 4-ketone is increased.

The synthesis of isoamyl acetate with ammonium 9-molybdate manganese heteropolyacid salt supported activated carbon as catalyst was studied. The optimum reaction conditions are obtained as follows: isoamyl alcohol to acetic acid molar ratio = 1.646, the weight of catalyst is 40% of total weigh, m (acidulate catalyst)=0.2g, m (water carrying reagent toluene) = 3ml, reaction time is about 63 minutes. Selectivity is 100% and conversion rate is 89.48%.
