The wear of rails and wheels is important problem in rail traffic. The change of the shape of the wheel profile has not only a great influence on the dynamic properties of the vehicle (like stability, safety by passing curved tracks, etc.), but also affects the ride comfort of passengers and environmental insults, in extreme cases it can cause rail derailment. One of the ways to predict these undesired conditions are computer aided simulation analyzes. In this article are presented assessments of wheel profile wear by Archard wear law in Simpack simulation software, when is railway vehicle driving at different velocities.

The wear of rails and wheels is important problem in rail traffic. The change of the shape of the wheel profile has not only a great influence on the dynamic properties of the vehicle (like stability, safety by passing curved tracks, etc.), but also affects the ride comfort of passengers and environmental insults, in extreme cases it can cause rail derailment. One of the ways to predict these undesired conditions are computer aided simulation analyses. In this article are presented results of wheel profile wear by Archard wear law, when the vehicle of type Model A was driving in track by constant velocity of 30 m/s. The vehicle was traveling along track where the rail profile was defined by standard (UIC 60 profile) with cant of 1:40, or the track profile really measured on the track, the profile S 91700_16 with the cant of 1:20. Simulations were realized by SIMPACK software.

An object-oriented modeling method was proposed to develop a simulation software package named GVDS which could be used to predict some aspects of dynamic behavior of railway vehicle. The package based on multi-body dynamics mainly consists of three parts, an interactive pre-processor, the solver and an interactive post-processor. With UML, demands and structure of the software package are represented. By modeling of the geometry and behavior of each object, virtual prototype of railway vehicle is formed and by the simulation, the critical speed of hunting stability, wheel-rail contact forces and so on can be determined and the hunting stability, curving behavior and ride comfort can be analyzed and evaluated. Finally, some cases are simulated. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract This paper is focused on the simulation of a railway vehicle with a Y25 bogie running on a theoretical track and it will simulate its dynamic properties. The model was created in multi-body simulation software SIMULIA - SIMPACK. The first part mentions the basics theoretical information about the forces which acts in the bogie for example vertical load, slip or lateral forces of the wheelset. The definition of the theoretical track is listed as well. The second part deals with the basics information about technical specifications of the Y25 bogie and its usage. In the next part, the 3D model of the Y25 bogie is described. This section also describes the simulation, which is performed at different speeds. In the last part, results are evaluated and compared for each speed. Results will be suitable for further academic research and development.

This paper presents a complete model to estimate the effects of wheel wear on the dynamic behavior and ride comfort of a railway vehicle. A co-simulation of the vehicle dynamics modeled in ADAMS VI-Rail and wear evolution modeled in MATLAB is performed in a loop. The outputs from the vehicle dynamics simulation are used to compute the wear evolution, which in turn affects the vehicle dynamics. The local contact parameters, such as normal contact force, tangential stresses and slip, etc., and wear distribution for each cell of the contact surface are estimated with the help of Kalker’s simplified theory of rolling contact and Archard’s wear model, respectively. The wear distribution and smoothening of the wheel profile are obtained for a short travel distance and are then scaled up for larger travel distance. The worn wheel profile is updated in the vehicle dynamics model after every 10,000 km of travel for further dynamic analysis and this process is repeated until either the critical dynamic performance or wheel wear limits are reached. Several new results emerge by considering both acceleration and braking on a tangent track with sinusoidal irregularities. Critical speed appears to increase initially and then decrease quickly, whereas worn wheels give better ride comfort in both lateral and vertical directions as compared to new wheels. According to the results in this work, wheels may be recommended for re-profiling or replacement much before the critical wear depth recommended in maintenance guidelines is reached.

In view of the coexistence of wheel profile wear (WPW) and wheel diameter difference (WDD) on an actual subway line, a dynamic analysis method based on coupling between WPW and equivalent in-phase WDD was proposed. Based on the measurements from a subway vehicle in operation on this line, dynamics modeling and calculations were performed for a single carriage of this vehicle. Later, the interaction between the effects of WPW and equivalent in-phase WDD on the vehicle dynamic performance was analyzed, and the dynamic response in the presence of coupled damage was compared between the outer and inner wheels. Furthermore, the difference in the dynamic response caused by different positions of the larger-diameter wheels (i.e., on the inner track or outer track) was analyzed for the case where equivalent in-phase WDD occurred between the front and rear bogies. The results show that when the vehicle ran on a straight line, the coupling between WPW and WDD reduced the vehicle’s stability but improved its ride comfort. When the vehicle traveled on a curved line, it showed reductions in the lateral wheel/rail contact force, derailment coefficient, axle lateral force, and wear index if the outer wheels had a larger diameter. As a result, the deterioration of the vehicle’s dynamic performance due to the increasing degree of WPW slowed down, and its curve negotiation performance improved. Meanwhile, the outer wheels had significantly greater lateral wheel/rail contact force, derailment coefficient, and wear index compared to the inner wheels. When a −1 mm WDD was coupled with the worn wheel profile for 14 × 104 kilometers traveled, the dynamic performance indexes of the vehicle were close to or even exceeded the corresponding safety limits. The findings can provide technical support for subway vehicle maintenance.

Based on the suspension of a missile using folding rotary wings and airbags, in order to improve the basic parameters and motion characteristics of the rotor during the unfolding process and analyze the aerodynamic characteristics of the entire device in the suspension state, after proposing a scheme of double-spin mechanism, the main folding and unfolding mechanism, initial driving device, rotating driving device, and locking mechanism were designed, and the simulation research is studied by the Automatic Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical System and Ansys Fluent Fluid Simulation software, respectively. The results show that the rotation rate was controlled at 41.8 mm/s, the various motion parameters are reasonable, and the operation process is relatively smooth, with high reliability. The speed and pressure value at the tip of the rotor are higher and the aerodynamic disturbance is obvious, which has a great influence on the aerodynamic performance. The speed and pressure distribution of the surrounding flow field is stable, the lift provided is 46 N, and the lift coefficient is 0.55, which can ensure the long-time suspension state of the missile. This paper puts forward a valuable design idea and has practical reference value for the research of the suspended missile.

Increasing regulatory demands are forcing the pharmaceutical industry to invest its available resources carefully. This is especially challenging for small- and middle-sized companies. Computer simulation software like FlexSim allows one to explore variations in production processes without the need to interrupt the running process. Here, we applied a discrete-event simulation to two approved film-coated tablet production processes. The simulations were performed with FlexSim (FlexSim Deutschland—Ingenieurbüro für Simulationsdienstleistung Ralf Gruber, Kirchlengern, Germany). Process visualization was done using Cmap Tools (Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition, Pensacola, FL, USA), and statistical analysis used MiniTab® (Minitab GmbH, Munich, Germany). The most critical elements identified during model building were the model logic, operating schedule, and processing times. These factors were graphically and statistically verified. To optimize the utilization of employees, three different shift systems were simulated, thereby revealing the advantages of two-shift and one-and-a-half-shift systems compared to a one-shift system. Without the need to interrupt any currently running production processes, we found that changing the shift system could save 50–53% of the campaign duration and 9–14% of the labor costs. In summary, we demonstrated that FlexSim, which is mainly used in logistics, can also be advantageously implemented for modeling and optimizing pharmaceutical production processes.

This paper deals with the problem of braking process modeling. A subway train braking process simulation software is built, which composes of a GUI and a underlying model. The underlying model consists of a train model and a brake system model. The train model is simplified and built by assembling subcomponent element models of a railway vehicle. The brake system model is simplified and built based on experimental data in order to reduce computational effort. The GUI of the software can be use to input model parameters, display simulation results, and store simulation data. As a result of the simplifications of the modeling process, the developed software can perform real time simulation.
