In the course of distance learning, the student is located remotely from his teacher, as well as from the educational institutions themselves. Such education is carried out mostly with the use of technologies for studying. Online learning contributes to improving the education quality due to the active implementation of the worldwide educational resources and a large share of independent work. A manifestation of negative impact of such education is stress caused not only by worries about coronavirus situation, but also by changes in the education field. Distance learning implies strict self-control, independence and consciousness of the student, ability to restrain their emotional states.

Topicality of the study of the attitude to the distance learning format is due to the need to study the impact of such interaction in the “pedagogue-studentˮ system on the quality, motivation and overall satisfaction of students with the learning process. The study involved 120 people from 6 six higher education institutions in Moscow. The use of content analysis allowed us to identify 8 significant contexts (areas) around which the statements of the study participants are grouped: “Roadˮ, “Teachersˮ, “Returnˮ, “Distance learningˮ, “Full-time, full-time attendingˮ, “Training, training formatˮ, “Provided, changedˮ, “Qualityˮ. The results obtained indicate that the main disadvantages of the distance learning format, according to the respondents, are the lack of live communication with teachers, a decrease in the level of motivation and self-organisation, which ultimately has a negative impact on the psychoemotional state of students and the quality of material assimilation. At the same time, among the obvious advantages, there is a reduction in transport and time costs for the road to the place of study, as well as the opportunity to study the material at a convenient time. The results obtained can be used in the development of distance learning programmes for students of higher educational institutions of the Russian Federation.

The article substantiates the expediency of intensifying the independent work of students in view of the active introduction of distance learning in the educational process of higher education. The relevance of the chosen topic based on the analysis of domestic scientific sources is proved. Questionnaires were selected to investigate the attitude of students to the introduction of distance learning technologies (concluded by the authors) and to identify features of independent learning activities of students in distance learning (two adapted questionnaires, by O. Tsis and V. Lyaudis). The survey was conducted with the participation of second, third and fourth year bachelor students of the Department of Pedagogy and Special Education of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University. According to the results of the ascertaining stage of the questionnaire, the significance of information and computer technologies in the educational process of the specified university is clarified and the most relevant for effective provision of distance learning is determined among them. The gradual growth of the rating of the online format of education is outlined: from the perception of almost half of respondents as a modern alternative to traditional education – to take an almost dominant position in the case of their independent learning activities, especially for high school students. Some students even reported improved performance through new opportunities for self-study, and most respondents did not feel the negative impact of changing the form of study and increasing the amount of independent work. At the same time, there were obstacles to the effectiveness of self-study in the form of lack of information skills in a third of respondents and the skills of organizing independent work in a quarter of respondents. According to the results of the survey, the lack of the proper level of self-regulation of educational activities, volitional and motivational characteristics of the individual in the vast majority of bachelors. The necessity of reorganization of the content, character, ways of independent work of students depending on the course of study for the purpose of formation of personal and professional competences of applicants of higher education in the field of special pedagogy is confirmed.

Distance learning around the world has set new requirements for educational institutions and particularly for the students. Self-efficacy is one of the essential factors for success. Self-efficacy in an online learning environment is related to the confidence in one's ability to succeed, knowledge and ability to use the technology, and the casualness of success in the new education model, which is evolving rapidly from Education 2.0. to Education 4.0. A survey was conducted among 134 students from higher educational institutions (HEIs). The results of the study demonstrate that self-assessment,  emotional responses, motivation for academic success, and self-referential information of students in HEIs regarding the learning content are unstable.  A rise in the knowledge and usage of various electronic devices and electronic resources has been reported along with a rise in cognitive load. There is an effect of cognitive distortion on mastering the learning content and setting more challenging goals in terms of the transition from the traditional model of learning to distance learning and on their learning competencies .

Teaching and learning at educational institutions in Slovakia has been based on traditional education, consisting of face-to-face classes until it was disrupted by the spread of the Coronavirus disease. A sudden lockdown caused massive changes, which presented challenges not only for teachers, but also for students who were forced to adapt their learning in a very short time, without any previous preparation. Since various educational institutions were forced to remain closed, they had no option but to shift from a traditional educational approach to distance learning. This form of education requires a form of online learning. The main purpose of this study was to explore what technical equipment students had at their disposal, to understand the students’ perception of distance learning, and to ensure better learning conditions in case of future lockdowns. In order to investigate student readiness for distance learning, a questionnaire survey was conducted at the Secondary Vocational School of Tourism and Gastronomy in Nitra, Slovakia. The findings of this study revealed that the majority of students from the Secondary Vocational School of Gastronomy and Tourism are ready for distance online learning. The results also indicate that a great percentage of students have Internet access and are the owners of technological devices that can be used for educational purposes. Furthermore, students are able to work individually on their own and do not require any help from other people while working on assignments. Although they prefer different teaching methods, the synchronous online courses are their priority because it enables them to have direct contact with their teachers and peers. Overall, this research shows that distance online learning is possible provided that both teachers and students are familiarised with this new learning environment and are ready to cooperate.
