Communicative competence refers to the ability to predict a communicative situation in a specific area of communication which becomes important in the era of information, to manage the process of communication in a certain situational environment. Levels of language personality formation are distinguished. The concept of a psychological barrier arising in the process of communication is given. Multilevel character of communicative competence is shown, levels of its formation are distinguished; such types as lexical, textual and discourse competence are considered. As a person enters discourse space and develops communicative competence, his emotional state changes – from negative or neutral emotions to positive emotions. The question is raised about the possibility of communicative failures caused by communication barriers arising during communication. Types of communicative barriers, their characteristics and ways to overcome them are considered; besides, barriers related to insufficient proficiency in a particular level of language (phonetic, lexical, stylistic) are considered. Among the reasons for communicative barriers are: features of communicants’ intelligence; difference in interpreting concepts; difference in vocabulary; misunderstanding of communicative situation; psychological characteristics of partners; social, political, professional, religious differences. Many of these barriers appear in modern society which overcomes specific changes in the era of information. Significance of psychological factor as well as level of formation of emotional competence to overcome emerging communicative barriers is shown.

The article is devoted to the study of pragmatic aspects of the use of phraseology in the textual space of Carlos Ruiz Safón’s novel «Prisoner of Heaven». One of the defining features of the individual style of this well-known modern Spanish writer is the metaphoricity and figuration of aristic expression, the saturation of the text with phraseological units that play a significant role in creating a pragmatic charge of the work of art. Along with general linguistic phraseological units, which include commonly-used vocabulary, the author uses dialectal and authorial phraseological units, which is a feature of his individual style. All three designated groups of phraseological units mostly reflect the negative psychophysical and emotional state of the characters. The author uses dialectal, individually-authorial and modified phraseological units, which is a feature of his individual style. It is determined that transformation is one of the most productive and most effective ways to update linguistic means in works of art. Author’s modification of FU leads to a change in the semantics and structure of expression, gives it a more expressive or emotional coloring. Transformed phraseology is limited to individual usage and is subject to the context of the work. Modified FUs in the Zafón’s artistic space acquire certain aesthetic and artistic qualities. Their modification is mainly to create the desired stylistic effect – to achieve emotional or expressive expression, which increases the reader’s interest, focuses on the content, issues of the work, as well as reveals the potential expressive potential of the Spanish language. In the transformed FUs, not just a new meaning is traced, but a combination of the well-known and the occasional. The unique combination of different types of phraseological units in the novel is considered a manifestation of individual style and makes a representation of the individually-authorial linguistic picture of the world more expressive.

The article deals with the issues where linguistic consciousness as a sociolinguistic phenomenon is successfully revealed in FLT, namely, in problematic questions of language learning. It covers the description of linguistic consciousness and some aspects of its influence on the process of development of students’ communicative competence. It is emphasized that the philosophy of lifelong learning has become a widespread phenomenon in modern society. Learning a foreign language can be considered an important means of forming linguistic consciousness and the ability to conduct intercultural dialogues. The correlation of two languages and cultures (Ukrainian and foreign ones) helps to outline their national specific features, which contribute to a deeper understanding of both the foreign and the native language and culture. Any education system is open and fairly stable. As for the methods and learning tools, they can vary depending on the applicable learning concept. The article gives a detailed description of the development of linguistic consciousness of Ukrainian students from different social groups while learning English. So linguistic consciousness is a reflection of the actual language sphere contributes to the development of both communicative and multilingual competences. The main aim of the use of modern educational technologies is to increase the level of the communicative competence and linguistic consciousness in students, their educational achievements, and to improve the quality of language education.

The term “bilingual education” can be described as a concept of educational research, based on its literal meaning, it usually refers to any educational program that involves two languages in the progress of teaching and learning. In modern society, bilingual education becomes increasingly popular, and has been widely used for the purpose of early education in many countries. This essay evaluates different types of bilingual education (early immersion, two-way language education, maintenance education) by analysing their strengths and limitations mainly in aspects of first language and second language development. From the systematic overview on the three most well-known forms of bilingual education, the author finds that all of them have influence on improving language skills and academic skills in a rolling basis while generally have no negative impacts on their growing process.

It is well known that in order to control the morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular disease patients, their lifestyle should be taken into account (American Heart Association, 2012; Klumbiene et al., 2002). Studies of various disease patients’ manners (Knight et al., 2006; Thompson et al., 2011) confirm that motivational interviewing (Miller & Rollnick, 2013) is an effective method for changing unhealthy behavior. Nevertheless, our practical experience of motivational interviewing based psychological counseling with rehabilitation hospitals’ cardiac patients’ (Sinkariova et al., 2015) revealed noteworthy observations about some participants lack of motivation to change unhealthy behavior. This observation encouraged us to start a study with the aim to find out if cardiac rehabilitation participants’ personality traits and emotional state are related to the effectiveness of motivational interviewing based psychological counseling. The study used a quasi-experiment where cardiac rehabilitation patients were assigned to control (regular rehabilitation, n=55) or experimental (rehabilitation plus motivational interviewing based psychological counseling intervention, n=64) groups. A total of 119 participants (male=83, female=36, M age=60.47, SD=8.762) attended a survey, which included NEO-FFI, HADs, and “Readiness to change questionnaire” at the beginning and end of cardiac rehabilitation. Nonparametric data analysis showed that patients’ personality traits are not related to the effectiveness of motivational interviewing based counseling, whereas depression is positively related to the effectiveness of intervention to change alcohol consumption. Conclusions/Implications: Depression as an expression of emotional state is an important feature for the effectiveness of motivational interviewing based counseling to change cardiac patients’ alcohol consumption. Further understanding of relationships between psychological characteristics and the effectiveness of intervention could help to improve cardiac diseases prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.

The consumption of fruits and vegetables has increased worldwide as a function of modern society, look for an overall, healthier and more natural lifestyle. Therefore, the work evaluated as post-harvest characteristics of the 'Giombo' persimmon submitted to different types of vacuum packaging, verifying as quality variables: Mass Loss; Potential of Hydrogen (pH); Soluble Solids (SS). The persimmons were collected at the Company of Technical Assistance and Rural Extension - Emater Anápolis / GO, and analyzes were carried out at the Post Harvesting Drying and Storage Laboratory of the Agricultural Engineering course, belonging to the State University of Goiás – Henrique Santillo Exact and Technological Sciences Campus, where they were selected, sanitized with sodium hypochlorite solution 2% NaClO, processed, submitted to different types of packaging and maintained in BOD with RU of 40% and 8.0 ± 1.4 °C for 18 days . It was used in experiment the CRD - Completely randomized design, in a factorial scheme 3 x 7 (packages x days of analysis), with 3 replicates. The persimmons were submitted to different vacuum packages, being control (without packaging), Polypropylene - PP and Low Density Polyethylene - LDPE. As the evaluation was performed every 3 days, for a period of 18 days (0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 days). The data originated were submitted to analysis of variance (P <0.05) and, when significant, were performed in Tukey tests, at 5% probability, and regression, using SISVAR 5.3 Software. Based on the evaluations, it was concluded that 'Giombo' persimmons stored under different vacuum packages provided a positive effect throughout the storage, highlighting the LDPE treatment, which had preserved postharvest characteristics such as mass loss, soluble solids and pH more effectively.

Abstract Neurobiological studies of discourse comprehension have almost exclusively focused on narrative comprehension. However, successful engagement in modern society, particularly in educational settings, also requires comprehension with an aim to learn new information (i.e., “expository comprehension”). Despite its prevalence, no studies to date have neurobiologically characterized expository comprehension as compared with narrative. In the current study, we used functional magnetic resonance imaging in typically developing children to test whether different genres require specialized brain networks. In addition to expected activations in language and comprehension areas in the default mode network (DMN), expository comprehension required significantly greater activation in the frontoparietal control network (FPN) than narrative comprehension, and relied significantly less on posterior regions in the DMN. Functional connectivity analysis revealed that, compared with narrative, the FPN robustly correlated with the DMN, and this inter-network communication was higher with increased reading expertise. These findings suggest that, relative to narrative comprehension, expository comprehension shows (1) a unique configuration of the DMN, potentially to support non-social comprehension processes, and (2) increased utilization of top-down regions to help support goal-directed comprehension processes in the DMN. More generally, our findings reveal that different types of discourse-level comprehension place diverse neural demands on the developing brain.
