Abstract Expressing vagueness is a common phenomenon especially in spoken discourse. The present paper examines vague language ‘sort of’ (e.g., kayak gitu) realised in spoken discourse in Indonesian. It accounts for the pragmatic functions of ‘sort of’ examined in their discourse context. The data under investigation include a 24-hour corpus of a television talk-show discussing various social issues. A pragmatic qualitative data analysis is predominantly employed directed towards a functional analysis of the use of ‘sort of’. Descriptive statistics accompany the qualitative analysis to reinforce the investigation. The quantitative analysis shows that ‘sort of’ was infrequently used in the context of Indonesian television discourse. The corpus displays various forms of lexical devices for ‘sort of’ in Indonesian. The pragmatic analysis shows that ‘sort of’ was employed as a politeness strategy to tone down strong linguistic expressions and to save the speaker’s positive face. The infrequent use of ‘sort of’ in the discourse type under investigation in this study reinforces the notion that ‘sort of’ is a feature of informal interaction.

The objective of this study was to find out the effectiveness of quality of message, attractiveness, and display frequency in Dove TV advertisement in influencing the purchase intention. This study was performed with quantitative as the main approach and supported by a qualitative approach to help explain the findings. The population of this study was the Indonesia TV. The sample was drawn using purposive and quota sampling. Therefore, there were 200 female respondents between 18 to 35 years old. Meanwhile, for qualitative data gathering, there were five resources. The resources are selected randomly from 200 respondents. After quantitative analysis of the data, it is revealed that all the variables in Dove TV advertisement have a positive and significant impact on purchase intention. It means the hypothesis 1, 2, and 3 were accepted. However, the strongest impact belongs to the quality of the message. Followed by display frequencies and the last is attractiveness. Despite that, there is only a slight difference between display frequencies and attractiveness. This result is also confirmed by qualitative data analysis. Hence, the marketers should pay more attention to the quality of the message rather than any variable, without neglecting others in creating the plan for advertisement.

Introduction. This article presents an overview of rehabilitation problems of children after cochlear implantation. Various approaches to teaching deaf children with cochlear implants existing in different countries are considered. The necessity of prolonged psycho-pedagogical support and neuropsychological assistance in choosing an educational path is ar gued. Materials and Methods. The study used quantitative and qualitative data analysis. As the main parameters of the quantitative analysis, the percentages of the number of children with cochlear implants reaching the level of development of educational and social skills were chosen. Qualitative data analysis included selection of the most commonly found in children with cochlear implants disorders of higher mental functions described in these studies. Results. The quantitative analysis of the distribution of the results of educational and social achievements of pupils with cochlear implants revealed a significant variation of the data presented in the studies. The greatest discrepancies were revealed in such indicators as progress in mathematics and reading, as well as in the frequency of the sign language, which characterizes the presence of a negative attitude towards the use of sign language instead of speech. Qualitative data analysis showing the specifics of the development of individual mental functions revealed a number of problems that may become targets for correctional training. Discussion and Conclusion. In the course of advising parents on the choice of an educational pathway for a child, it is advisable to pay their attention not only to the format of the educational process and the type of institution, but also to the content characteristics of learning, including the active and regular use of visual assistive devices. The neuropsychological diagnostics is feasible of for assessment of readiness for school education and choosing an educational path for a child with a c ochlear implants. In the paper, we deal with the comparison of the evaluation of students' language skills in two environments, on-site and online. Testing took place through the moodle platform, where we used e-test, during the first and second waves of the pandemic. The main aim of the research was to find out what impact the environment in which the testing takes place has on the test results, i.e. in which environment students achieved better results. Printed tests were used for on-site testing. The on-site testing took place in the academic years 2018/2019 (summer term) and 2019/2020 (winter term). The online testing took place in the academic years 2019/2020 (summer term) and 2020/2021 (winter term). We compared the results of the testing, which took place in person at the university, with the results that the students achieved during the online testing. In the research of testing, we used the method of quantitative analysis and descriptive statistics, which allow us to better understand the correlation between the results obtained in on-site and online testing. Based on the data analysis, we confirmed the alternative hypothesis H1: Students who took part in on-site testing achieve better results than students who took part in online testing. Testing results show that students achieve better results in on-site testing than in online testing.

AbstractContent or text analysis is one of the most common evaluation methods employed in qualitative research. Despite its wide application, however, a clear structure of how such evaluation should be conducted is often lacking due to the complexity of qualitative data. As a consequence, highly differentiated category systems with small-step subdivisions of categories and sub-categories are often used, leading to a loss of context both among categories and for the content as a whole. The aim of this paper is to describe the Phenomena-centered Text Analysis (PTA) as a novel form of qualitative text analysis, which takes these shortcomings into account by focusing on text-inherent phenomena. These phenomena are identified in two preceding quantitative analysis steps that identifying overlapping coding for subsequently qualitative analysis. We explain the structured code- and context-based approach of this new method and demonstrate its application with an empirical example. The PTA contributes to an increasing demand of qualitative methods especially for small-scale projects that need a structured kind of qualitative data analysis.

Relying on the theoretical underpinnings of Hofstede's cultural dimensions, and Baxter Magolda's theory of self-authorship, the authors conducted a quantitative analysis to better understand how culture influences the development of self-authorship. Data analysis used descriptive statistics and Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) to identify potential relationships amongst these two theoretical constructs. Findings revealed that self-authorship can serve as an avenue to develop reliable measurements to enlighten our understanding of this complex and multidimensional construct. The authors in this chapter highlight these relationships and discusses findings as it concerns to the development of international students.

The NU PLUS vocational school (SMK) located in Sidoarjo Regency as a forum for nation generation, always applies various methods and development of learning media to answer the demands of the era to produce high-quality human resources, the problem facing this school is that the ability of teachers is still lacking in analyzing research data using statistical tests. Therefore, it is necessary to increase human resources concerning research through data analysis training. One way to help teach teachers in conducting research is to provide training in research data analysis using SPSS software. SPSS software is a software that can help process research data making it easier for researchers to analyze the data. This training aims to solve the problems faced by Sidoarjo Vocational High School teachers as partners, by providing training and mentoring methods of data analysis which include: 1) Methods of data analysis using descriptive statistics; 2) Methods of Quantitative data analysis using parametric statistics; 3) Qualitative Data Analysis Method using non-parametric statistics; 4) Research Methods, Classroom Action Research. The training design above is expected to improve some of the abilities and skills of the Sidoarjo Vocational High School teachers, including the following: 1) Processing research data using descriptive statistics; 2) Quantitative data processing using parametric statistics; 3) Processing of qualitative data using non-parametric statistics; 4) Mastering Research methods with Quantitative and Qualitative Approaches; 5) Able to carry out Classroom Action Research. The expected target of the community service activities in Sidoarjo Plus Vocational School includes: 1) Increased understanding, ability, and skills in analyzing data using descriptive statistics; 2) Increasing understanding, ability and skills in analyzing quantitative data by utilizing various kinds of parametric statistical tests that are tailored to the problem; 3) Improve understanding, ability and skills in analyzing qualitative data by utilizing various kinds of non-parametric statistical tests that are tailored to the problem; 4) Training manual; 5) Certificates and posters; 6) Scientific Publication in the Journal
