Abstract This chapter describes a method of calculating the combination of feed ingredients which will give a mixture which contains nutrients in specified concentrations. If these concentrations are similar to the animal's nutrient requirements, then it can be fed to obtain the expected production response. To correctly formulate a ration, data which is presented in a consistent manner, and is appropriate for the type of animal the ration is intended for are needed.

Ration formulation systems require information on nutrient requirements of the animal and reliable values for rumen degradable and undegradable fractions of feed ingredients. The in situ nylon-bag technique is widely used to characterize the disappearance of feeds from the rumen (Woods et al., 2002). The objective of this study was determining of relationship between in vitro and in situ dry matter disappearance.

Mixing broiler chicken and layer hens feed using various feed ingredients is a difficult task. The feed must fulfill the minimum nutrient requirement and must break the constraint. Some classic approach like Pearson’s Square has been already introduced to solve this problem. However, the approaches cannot guarantee to fulfill nutrient requirements and desirable price. The two metaheuristic algorithms Evolution Strategies (ES) and Firefly Algorithms (FA) are being proposed in this paper to know how well they performed this problems. Result show that ES is perform much better compared to classic Pearson’s Square, but ES itself is outperform by FA on both cases.

Computers appropriate for small-to-medium sized businesses (such as large farms, agri-businesses, and management and production consultants) can be broadly classified into three groups: pocket sized programmable calculators (£50-£500); micro-computers (£500-£5000); mini-computers (£5000-£50000). There are also the main-frame computers which take up considerably more resources of both money and space. Main-frame computers are likely to be restricted for use in specialist functions such as the handling of very large programs, complex statistical packages and so on.Of these, the simplest type to operate allows specific programs to be written onto magnetic cards which are fed in as required. Such programs may calculate: nutrient requirements for given levels of production; nutritional quality of a combination of ingredients in a farm mix; average herd performances to date; a register of input and output for the unit; and the like. The capacity of these machines is limited, both as to the extent and complexity of the calculations allowed and to the volume of data which can be stored and executed. The alphabetic printing and layout capability is rather poor and the user must be familiar with the input format and with the configuration for the output.

To satisfy the increased nutrient requirements of high genetic merit dairy cows, diets of increased nutrient density and intake potential are required. This can be achieved through increasing the feed value of the forage component of the diet (grass silage or grazed grass) and by increasing concentrate feed levels. However both approaches tend to reduce the fibre concentration of the diet, and the physical effectiveness of the fibre in terms of its ability to stimulate ruminal processes. The incorporation of small quantities of straw into the diet has been suggested as a means of overcoming this problem and hence improving animal performance. This study was undertaken to examine the production response by dairy cows to straw inclusion in high quality grass silage and zero grazed grass diets.

In Europe, micronutrient dietary reference values have been established by (inter)national committees of experts and are used by public health policy decision-makers to monitor and assess the adequacy of diets within population groups. The approaches used to derive dietary reference values (including average requirements) vary considerably across countries, and so far no evidence-based reason has been identified for this variation. Nutrient requirements are traditionally based on the minimum amount of a nutrient needed by an individual to avoid deficiency, and is defined by the body’s physiological needs. Alternatively the requirement can be defined as the intake at which health is optimal, including the prevention of chronic diet-related diseases. Both approaches are confronted with many challenges (e. g., bioavailability, inter and intra-individual variability). EURRECA has derived a transparent approach for the quantitative integration of evidence on Intake-Status-Health associations and/or Factorial approach (including bioavailability) estimates. To facilitate the derivation of dietary reference values, EURopean micronutrient RECommendations Aligned (EURRECA) is developing a process flow chart to guide nutrient requirement-setting bodies through the process of setting dietary reference values, which aims to facilitate the scientific alignment of deriving these values.

Background: Commercial broiler is a rapidly growing sector in Bangladesh. The broilers are supplied with the balanced ration prepared from a number of ingredients which are not available uniformly throughout the years. On the other hands, manufactured feeds are costly and inconvenient for the rural farmers. This study is undertaken to use unconventional feed ingredients aiming to decrease the broiler production cost. Method: A total of ninety-nine day- old broiler chicks (Hubbard) of either sex were used in this study in 3 treatment groups to assess processed unconventional feed item (shoti, blood meal, poultry dropping and molasses) on growth and profitability upon rearing for 60 days. Broilers were reared in dip litter system and were fed ad libitum on conventional and unconventional diet dividing into 3 treatment diets namely, treatment diet 1 (T1: Conventional as control), treatment diet 2 (T2: unconventional with blood meal and shoti), and treatment diet 3 (T3: unconventional with blood meal, shoti, poultry droppings and molasses) throughout the trial period. Treatment group 1 (T1) was used as control. Results: Broilers fed on control diet (conventional feed) achieved higher (P<0.01) body weight, while the broilers offered diets with the highest amount of unconventional feed had the lowest body weight. Increased (P<0.01) feed intake was observed during 21days and 49 days of age when broilers fed diets with the supplementation, but no significant differences were found among the groups in terms of feed consumption during 33 day of age. FCR differed significantly (P<.01) throughout the trial period with the broilers fed diets without supplementation of unconventional feed item had the superior FCR than the others. Mortality rate was 6.06%,9.09%, and 9.09% in treatment group I, treatment group II, and treatment group III respectively while live weights, feed conversion and feed consumption was unaffected by all the dietary groups with/without incorporation of unconventional feed item up to day 60 days of age. Statistically significant (P<0.01) decreased live weight was observed among the treatment groups in 60-day-old birds. Productivity and cost-benefit analysis were performed. Conclusion: Use of unconventional feed ingredients in broiler production greatly reduces the feed cost with little hampering the growth rate and hence, it is profitable for the farmers.

Background: Stock price prediction is a challenging task. The social, economic, political, and various other factors cause frequent abrupt changes in the stock price. This article proposes a historical data-based ensemble system to predict the closing stock price with higher accuracy and consistency over the existing stock price prediction systems. Objective: The primary objective of this article is to predict the closing price of a stock for the next trading in more accurate and consistent manner over the existing methods employed for the stock price prediction. Method: The proposed system combines various machine learning-based prediction models employing least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression regularization technique to enhance the accuracy of stock price prediction system as compared to any one of the base prediction models. Results: The analysis of results for all the eleven stocks (listed under Information Technology sector on the Bombay Stock Exchange, India) reveals that the proposed system performs best (on all defined metrics of the proposed system) for training datasets and test datasets comprising of all the stocks considered in the proposed system. Conclusion: The proposed ensemble model consistently predicts stock price with a high degree of accuracy over the existing methods used for the prediction.

Total and unilateral parotid saliva production during eating were measured in response to offering sheep a fixed amount of lucerne (Medicago sativa) hay as one, two, four or eight meals. Total saliva measurements were obtained using sham-fed oesophageal-fistulated sheep. Unilateral parotid saliva was collected from sheep fitted with reversible re-entrant cannulas. Dry matter intakes and eating times were measured for each meal but were not constrained to particular values. Total and unilateral parotid saliva production during eating increased linearly with the log of the number of meals (p = 0.0001). The amounts corresponding to one, two, four and eight meals of lucerne hay were 1553, 1737, 1851 and 2087 ml during total collections and 209, 248, 307 and 352 ml during unilateral parotid collections. The time-period spent eating and the amount of food consumed both increased as meal number increased. Total saliva collections when lucerne hay was sham-fed as one, two, four or eight meals were associated with eating times of 56.9, 57.4, 70.8 and 86.0 min and intakes of 562, 622, 629 and 638 g dry matter respectively. For unilateral parotid collections, eating times and dry matter intakes were 64.2, 71.3, 78.0, 82.1 min and 515, 579, 614 and 627 g for one, two, four and eight meals of lucerne hay respectively. The saliva production response appeared to be determined through the effects of the time-period spent eating and amounts consumed, but other undetermined effects of feeding frequency contributed to the response. The importance of meal duration on total saliva production was assessed by sham-feeding of 800 g lucerne as stem, leaf, hay, chopped hay or ground and pelleted hay. Increasing meal duration by feeding with stems resulted in the production of 1808 ml saliva, whereas the rapid consumption of pellets resulted in only 442 ml being produced.

Many studies have examined the proportion of time that primates devote to feeding on various types of food, but relatively little is known about the intake rates associated with each food. However, the nutritional consequences of foraging can only be interpreted by comparing nutrient intakes with estimated nutrient requirements. The energy available to primates from ingested foods will depend both on the composition of the food and the extent to which various constituents, including fibre fractions, are digested. Both human and non-human primates have relatively low requirements for protein as a consequence of slow growth rates, small milk yields and relatively dilute milk. Because the nutrient demands of growth and reproduction are spread out over time, it appears that primates do not need to seek out foods of particularly high nutrient density, except perhaps during weaning. Although food selection in some species of primates appears to be correlated with the protein concentration of foods, it is unlikely that high dietary protein levels are required, at least when foods of balanced amino acid composition (such as leaves) are included in the diet.

We studied macrophyte and diatom assemblages and a range of environmental factors in the large hypertrophic Dehtář fishpond (Southern Bohemia, Czech Republic) over the course of several growing seasons. The spatial diversity of the environment was considered when collecting diatoms and water samples in three distinct parts of the fishpond, where automatic sensor stations continually measuring basic factors were established. Macrophytes were mapped in 30 segments of the fishpond littoral altogether. High species richness and spatiotemporal variability were found in assemblages of these groups of autotrophs. Water level fluctuations, caused by the interaction of fish farming management and climatic extremes, were identified as one of the most important factors shaping the structure and species composition of diatom and macrophyte assemblages. The distance of the sampling sites from large inflows reflected well the spatial variability within the fishpond, with important differences in duration of bottom drainage and exposure to disturbances in different parts of the fishpond. Disturbances caused by intensive wave action are most probably a crucial factor allowing the coexistence of species with different nutrient requirements under the hypertrophic conditions of the Dehtář fishpond. Due to a range of variables tested and climatic extremes encountered, our study may be considered as a basis for predictive model constructions in similar hypertrophic water bodies under a progressing climate change.
