Abstract In the conditions of the Moscow region, in 1993-2020, more than 1.0 thousand Triticale Wittmack cultivars were studied, including new varieties and lines, by using diallel crossings (DIAC) (5 × 5) and other field and laboratory experiments. Tests of varietal samples in DIAC in 2011-2012 using the method of Hayman (1954) showed that the traits of winter triticale are characterized by an additive-dominant inheritance scheme. The dominant genes made the main contribution to the increase in productivity traits, and the prospects of a particular cross-breeding combination depended on their concentration. In the competitive test (CSI) in 2015-2020, the best productivity was found in the Gera variety - 8.15 t/ha (the standard one is 7.29 t/ha). It is shown that over the past 25 years in the Federal Research Center “Nemchinovka” created more than 25 varieties of winter triticale, 12 varieties submitted to the State Register, 6 varieties are now in production, including variety Nina, released in 2013 for the Central region and combines with Samara Research Institute of Agriculture variety Capella, made to the State Register from 2019.

Creation of new varieties of winter hexaploid triticale for the central part of Russia is characterized by increased resistance of grain to germination on the root. The phenomenon of germination on the root is one of the limiting traits that limit the spread of triticale culture in areas of excessive moisture, which is the Central Region of the Non-Chernozem zone. The work was carried out at the Russian State Agrarian University – Moscow Agricultural Academy named after K.A. Timiryazev in 2018-2019. Field experiments were conducted in the fields of the Field Experimental and Breeding Stations. Laboratory tests were carried out at the Department of Genetics, Breeding and Seed Production. As a result of a comprehensive assessment of breeding varieties in the preliminary variety testing, the most valuable sample of winter triticale 228h (Castus x Don) was isolated, which formed a yield at the standard level, and during 3 years of study showed relatively high resistance to pre-harvest germination of grain in the ear. This sample is currently being intensively propagated for transfer to the State Variety Testing in 2020.

As result of breeding work a new potato cultivar is bred at Primorye vegetable breeding experimental station. The main method of creating a potato cultivar is interspecific hybridization using the best cultivars of the world's collection as the source material and complex interspecific hybrids – donors of certain valuable traits. We studied 2010 single-club hybrids from 15 breeding combinations of the All-Russian research Institute of potato production named after A. G. Lorch. The principle of selecting the source material of potatoes corresponded to the intended purpose for the South of the Far East – the cultivar should be medium-ripened and resistant to late blight. Breeding material was studied according to accepted in Russia methodology. Weather conditions during the research period (2009–2017) were most favorable in 2014 and 2017, when the yield of hybrids was 40 t/ha or higher, and extremely unfavorable in 2016 due to excessive precipitation and epiphytotic development of late blight, as a result, in most cases, the yield was only 8–10 t/ha. Strong development of late blight was also noted in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017, which made it possible to reliably assess the selection material for resistance to this very harmful potato disease. According to the results of the evaluation of 2010 hybrids, only two hybrids reached the competitive test, including under the selection number 1615–85, which had a significant advantage over the standard for yield and resistance to late blight. This hybrid 1615–85 called Artemovets was passed to the state test in 2017. According to the results of this test in 2018–2019, Artemovets cultivar is included in the state register of breeding achievements of the Russian Federation for the far Eastern region from 2020.

The object of research was the pedigrees of strawberry varieties. An analysis of the genetic relationship of 129 varieties of domestic strawberry breeding, 6 parent forms, 2 of which are foreign varieties was carried out. Until the 1930s, strawberry culture in the USSR was based exclusively on Western European varieties: König Albert von Sachsen, Roschinskaya, Victoria, White Pine, Apricose, Konigin Luise, Noble Laxton, Siger, Spate von Leopoldshall, Kent’s Miracle, Sharpliss, Muto, etc. During the transition to the commercial production, these varieties were not insufficiently tolerant, which required the creation of a new assortment for various conditions of cultivation, and served as the beginning of the implementation of domestic strawberry breeding programs. At present, the State register of breeding achievements approved for use in 2020 includes 106 strawberry varieties, of which 82 are of domestic breeding. Existing domestic varieties have different geographical origins. The main Centers for strawberry breeding are: All-Russian Horticultural Institute for Breeding, Agrotechnology and Nursery, I.V. Michurin Federal Research Center, N. I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources, North Caucasus Federal Research Center For Horticulture, Viticulture, and Winemaking, etc. Initially, the parent forms for creating a domestic assortment were European and American varieties: Culver, Deutsch Evern, Georg Soltwedel, Konigin Luise, Markee, König Albert von Sachsen Marshall, Macherauchs Marieva, Macherauchs Fruhernte, Muto, Premier, Red Coat, Red Gauntlet, Robinson, Senga Sengana, Sieger, Sparkle, Spate von Leopoldshall, Wander von Kothen. Analysis of pedigrees of 135 varieties from the 23 literature sources allowed to identify the most effective in the formation of domestic assortment genotypes of strawberry: Komsomolska (10 varieties in the first generation; 12 in the second; 14 in the third, 2 in the fourth), Mysovka (12 varieties in the first generation; 20 in the second; 21 – in the third; 2 in the fourth), Obilnaya (7 varieties in the first generation; 22 – the second; 20 for the third; 6 for the fourth), Festivalnaya (21 varieties in the first generation; 19 – in the second; 6 in the third), Culver (20 varieties in the first generation; 16 – in the second, 3 – in the third), Senga Sengana (13 varieties in the first generation; 7 – in the second; 4-in the third). The originator of 37.8% of domestic varieties included in the State register is the Obilnaya variety (Wander von Kothen × Deutsch Evern). On the basis of the Festivalnaya variety obtained with his participation (Obilnaya × Premier), an assortment was created that has not lost its relevance at the present time (26 varieties are included in the State register). The varieties Mysovka (Wander von Kothen × Deutsch Evern) and Zenga Zengana (Markee × Sieger) are included in the pedigree of 13 and 14 modern varieties, respectively. Based on the Komsomolka and Culver varieties, 7 and 9 varieties were created, respectively, which are currently included in the State register. Intraspecific hybridization has not exhausted the possibility of creating a genetically diverse breeding material. Taking into account the fact that domestic varieties often have closely related origin, it is desirable to involve introduced forms and varieties obtained with their participation in the breeding process more widely. The results of using various methods of breeding (inbreeding, saturating crosses) indicate that it is possible to further improve strawberry varieties creating donors of a high level of economically valuable traits. The current level of scientific knowledge and development of biotechnological research allows us to “model” varieties, including in the genotype of strawberry genes and gene blocks of valuable traits from closely related species, reducing the duration of the breeding process.

The article considers the results of experiments on the study and selection of sources of valuable features from the world collection. The aim of the research is to create new varieties of winter triticale with high features of productivity (over 12 t/ha) and grain quality in comparison with the Victor and Hermes standards. Special attention in the experiments is paid to the search for genotypes that are promising for use in breeding programs for different types of crossing, obtaining hybrid populations, identifying forms, lines with a complex of economically useful features. Breeders of Federal Research Center “Nemchinovka” for a number of years received varieties of winter triticale, competitive in Russia and abroad, able to form a crop of more than 10 t\ha of quality grain. However, their disadvantages are tallness, susceptibility to dangerous diseases (snow mold, septoriosis), and significant variability in grain harvest over the years (2.9). The authors have identified sources of economic and valuable features from the collection of N. I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources. This includes the winter-hardy variety Tsekad 90, drought-resistant Doctrina 110, short-stemmed Legion, Kentavr, yielding large-grain Efremovskaya, etc., successfully used in breeding. Highly productive lines have been created (No.6 408-19-71, No.618-176, No.878-1-25, No.690-1-19) and varieties (Gera, Kapella, Arktur) with a fixed grain harvest of more than 10t\ ha, adaptive to the natural conditions of the non-Chernozem zone and the middle Volga region.
