Abstract Ponds rehabilitation projects for the purpose of eco - rehabilitation following significant anthropogenic impacts or degradation are becoming more frequent but not always successful. Therefore, the experience of the restoration of the Lebyazhye system lakes in Kazan city (Russia) is interesting. Previously, the lake system used to consist of four ponds, but due to water catchment area reduction, the area of the lake system also decreased, and only one lake remained. The restoration of the Lebyazhye system lakes was carried out in 2017 and included the deepening of the basin of the Bolshoe and Svetloe Lebyazhye lakes to 4 m, the sealing of the bed of future ponds with bentonite mats, supplying water from Izumrudnoye lake through a pressure water conduit and filling the basin of the lakes with water. The research is devoted to the study of the restoration of zooplankton communities in the Lebyazhye system lakes. For this purpose, the indicators of zooplankton communities before and after eco-rehabilitation measures were compared. After the implementation of eco-rehabilitation measures, significant changes in environmental parameters were observed: the salinity of water decreased, the oxygen content in the water, pH increased. In zooplankton communities, the species richness and diversity increased, new species appeared, as well as those that lived in the lake system earlier before eco-rehabilitation measures were taken.

Abstract Background Highly diluted and succussed solutions interact with solvatochromic dyes, indicating that changes in solvent and solute polarity could be related to their mechanism of action. It is not known, however, how the activity associated with succussed high dilutions is transferred to untreated water and what the limits of this process are. Aims The aims of the present study were to ascertain whether a succussed high dilution of phosphorus (1.5 × 1−59 M; Phos 30cH) seeded into a natural water source that fed a fjord and two connected lakes could propagate itself through the lake system (total volume 2200 m3) and, moreover, whether the process could be tracked using solvatochromic dyes. Methods Samples of water were collected before and after seeding, at different times and places throughout the lake system. Controls comprised water taken from an untreated and adjacent, but independent, lake (1385 m3). Results Water samples taken up to 72 hours after the source treatment produced significant increases (p ≤ 0.03) in the absorbance of the solvatochromic dye methylene violet (MV), while samples from the control lake produced no changes. Conclusions The study indicates that activity associated with Phos 30c can propagate itself through large volumes of water, causing changes throughout a whole connected lake system, and that these changes can be tracked using the solvatochromic dye MV. This in turn means the use of homeopathic medicines in large volumes of drinking water, in farming and ecological contexts, now has the potential to be assessed with physico-chemical monitoring.

Abstract The main objective of the current study was to assess the impact of the water taken from the ‘Tunisian Refining Industries Company’ on meiobenthic nematodes, before and after a series of treatments in decantation basins followed by its discharge in Bizerte bay, Tunisia. The comparison of environmental parameters of the two types of water was clearly indicative of an improvement in the quality of treated waters after a significant reduction in their loads in hydrocarbons. Overall, the water retained a good quality after being treated by ‘Tunisian Refining Industries Company’ before discharge in the sea. At the end of the experiment, differential responses were observed according to the richness of sediment in organic matter and hydrocarbons. Thus, it was apparent that the nematode assemblage exposed to the treated waters was closer to controls and associated to higher values of abundance, than that under untreated ones. It was also assumed that the species Microlaimus honestus De Man, 1922, Paramonohystera proteus Wieser, 1956 and Cyartonema germanicum Juario, 1972 are sensitive bioindicators of bad environmental statues and of hydrocarbon presence in the environment. On the other hand, Metoncholaimus pristiurus (Zur Strassen, 1894) Filipjev, 1918 would rather be classified as a positive bioindicative species of this type of pollutants.

e16544 Background: It is known that abnormal expression of miRNAs in the gastric cancer (GC) contributes to its carcinogenesis. Therefore, ingestion of commercial (usual) water on a daily basis may be a contributing factor for the occurrence of alterations in the gastric mucosal. In this study, it was evaluated the expression of the miRNAs miR-29c, miR-7, miR-155, and miR-135b in the gastric tissue of patients with gastritis before and after the consumption of alkaline water (pH range from 8.0 to 10.0), as well as the clinic pathological characteristics. Methods: 50 subjects from the Amazon region, diagnosed with gastritis that routinely used commercial (usual) water with a pH lower than 5.0, were enrolled to change the consume water to a pH of 8.5 to 10.0 for 5 months. Results: Endoscopic findings of gastritis were such different (less severe disease), p = 0.024; in 43% diagnosed with moderate gastritis upfront esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) presented mild gastritis after the consumption of alkaline water, according to study methods; there were no worsening gastritis and there were a significant increase in the expression of miR-135b (p = 0.039) and miR-29c (p = 0.039). Conclusions: Modified pH range water (from 8.0 to 10.0) ingested for 5 months was able lead to a less severe gastritis according to the Sidney classification system, suggesting that this lifestyle change represented a clinical benefit in patients with gastritis on the Amazon region. In addition, higher expression of miR-135b and miR-29c was observed after the consumption of alkaline water for 5 months. [Table: see text]

Purpose: To describe one-year functional and aesthetic outcomes in patients with post-enucleation enophthalmos who underwent lipostructure plus platelet-rich plasma injections. Materials and Methods: 26 patients treated with orbital lipostructure and three platelet rich plasma injections at 1, 2 and 6 months after surgery were retrospectively assessed. Photographs of all patients were taken preoperatively and at 1 and 12 months after surgery. The area of each eye lid esthetic unit/subunit was calculated, both in frontal and profile images. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software (SPSS Inc., Chicago, Illinois, USA). Paired t-test was used to compare the unit/subunit areas before and after surgery. Differences were considered significant when P <0.05. Results: Comparing baseline to 1-month images, an improvement of the enophthalmos appearance was observed in all patients. Analysis of each single esthetic units was performed, with an overall unit area reduction of 19.8%. Comparing the two postoperative images, the overall amount of resorption was 12.75%. The surgical procedure appeared to be well tolerated in all cases. Minor complications regarding the lower eyelid were recorded in 6 cases. Conclusions: lipostructure plus platelet rich plasma injections proved to be a valid and effective option for the treatment of post enucleation socket syndrome.

BACKGROUND: In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the relevance of rehabilitation measures for patients with COVID-associated pneumonia has increased. AIM: The study aimed to review the effect of bioacoustic stimulation of the respiratory system (BSRS) with high-intensity low-frequency sounds on the dynamics of functional indicators of the respiratory system and the cardiovascular system, as well as indicators of psychoemotional and somatic states, the severity of post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD) and cognitive capabilities in patients who have had COVID-associated pneumonia in the process of their medical rehabilitation at a health resort immediately after treatment of the disease in a hospital. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The randomized controlled open parallel prospective clinical study involved 28 patients undergoing medical rehabilitation after suffering moderate to severe COVID-19 complicated by community-acquired bilateral polysegmental pneumonia (COVID-associated pneumonia) of moderate to severe severity. Spirometry, pulse oximetry, compression oscillometry, bioelectrography, Mississippi Scale (civil version), and cognitive speed test were used to assess the functional parameters of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, as well as indicators of psychoemotional and somatic states, the intensity of PTSD and cognitive abilities of patients before and after the course of rehabilitation measures. RESULTS: According to significant differences in changes in the indexes of external respiration, cardiac activity, psychological status, and the intensity of PTSD in patients of the main and control groups before and after a course of rehabilitation measures, it has been reliably established that the use of BSRS as a part of a complex of rehabilitation measures significantly increases the effectiveness of medical rehabilitation at a health resort for patients after COVID-associated pneumonia. CONCLUSION: The possibility and feasibility of using medical technology of BSRS with high-intensity low-frequency sound in complex medical rehabilitation of patients after COVID-associated pneumonia at the health resort stage have been scientifically substantiated.

This study aims to determine the type and effect of environmental factors on the presence of gastropods in the mangrove ecosystem. Field data collection is taken by measuring the environmental parameters directly, while gastropod data is obtained by calculating directly the amount obtained by each data collection. The results showed that in Lantamal Pier there were 8 species of gastropods : Littorina scabra, Cerithidea obtusa, Cassidula angulifera, Terebralia sulcata, Terebralia palustris, Ellobium aurisjudae, Telescopium-telescopium and Nerita lineata while environmental factors that affected to gastropods were water temperature, water pH, and soil pH.   Keywords: Gastropods; Environmental parameters.

This study examined the location and physiological roles of branchial chemoreceptors involved in the cardiorespiratory responses to hypoxia and hypercarbia in a neotropical fish that exhibits aquatic surface respiration, the tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum). Fish were exposed to abrupt progressive environmental hypoxia (18. 6–1.3 kPa water P(O2)) and hypercarbia (water equilibrated with 5 % CO(2) in air, which lowered the water pH from 7.0 to 5.0). They were also subjected to injections of NaCN into the ventral aorta (to stimulate receptors monitoring the blood) and buccal cavity (to stimulate receptors monitoring the respiratory water). All tests were performed before and after selective denervation of branchial branches of cranial nerves IX and X to the gill arches. The data suggest that the O(2) receptors eliciting reflex bradycardia and increases in breathing frequency are situated on all gill arches and sense changes in both the blood and respiratory water and that the O(2) receptors triggering the elevation in systemic vascular resistance, breathing amplitude, swelling of the inferior lip and that induce aquatic surface respiration during hypoxia are extrabranchial, although branchial receptors also contribute to the latter two responses. Hypercarbia also produced bradycardia and increases in breathing frequency, as well as hypertension, and, while the data suggest that there may be receptors uniquely sensitive to changes in CO(2)/pH involved in cardiorespiratory control, this is based on quantitative rather than qualitative differences in receptor responses. These data reveal yet another novel combination for the distribution of cardiorespiratory chemoreceptors in fish from which teleologically satisfying trends have yet to emerge.

Gas outburst has been a major disaster in high gas mine. Flow law of gas in coal seam was studied, and gas drainage measures were proposed were extraordinarily useful for mine safety and rational use of gas. Finite element numerical method was applied to study changing law of gas pressure before and after the high-pressure water injection and damage deformation of coal under high-pressure water based on fluid-solid coupling and gas-solid coupling and damage theory. This research shows that: (1) a damage area was generated in coal seam under high-pressure water injection. Range of the damage area increase rapidly at the start of water injection and gradually slow down with the passage of time, eventually be more stable. (2) The permeability of rock mass of coal under high-pressure water injection. (3) High-pressure water injection had significant effect on gas drainage in a certain area. It provided a theoretical basis for selecting reasonable design programs to product gas by high-pressure water injection technology.

In the present study, the phytoplankton diversity and distribution was studied in relation seasonal variation of environmental parameters in the Uppanar estuary. Samples were seasonally collected (i.e., pre-monsoon: July-2018 and summer: June-2019) from six stations. A total of 62 phytoplankton species belonging to three classes, 20 orders, 26 families and 36 genera were and among the three phytoplankton taxa, diatoms topped the list with 41 species followed by Dinoflagellates (17 species) and blue green algae (4 species). The maximum number of phytoplankton species (36) and diversity value (H’) 3.976 was recorded in the stations near river mouth (UE-6) during summer and minimum species number (21) and maximum species richness (d) 6.923 was recorded in stations close to industrialr zone (UE-1) during monsoon. The maximum species evenness (J') 0.928 was recorded at stations near river mouth (UE-6). BIO-ENV (Biota-Environmental matching) and CCA results confirmed that the environmental parameters such as Dissolved oxygen, Turbidity, Salinity, Water pH, Chlorophyll, Silicate, TN and TP as best match (ρω = 0.968) in determining phytoplankton distributions. The results of present study helps to develop an understanding on the phytoplankton distribution based on physico-chemical parameters, which will form a reliable tool in bio-monitoring studies.
