Yoga, a form of physical activity, is rapidly gaining in popularity and has many health benefits. Yet healthcare providers have been slow to recognize yoga for its ability to improve health conditions, and few interventions have been developed that take full advantage of its benefits. The purpose of this article is to review published studies using yoga programs and to determine the effect of yoga interventions on common risk factors of chronic diseases (overweight, hypertension, high glucose level and high cholesterol). A systematic search yielded 32 articles published between 1980 and April 2007. The studies found that yoga interventions are generally effective in reducing body weight, blood pressure, glucose level and high cholesterol, but only a few studies examined long-term adherence. Additionally, not enough studies included diverse populations at high risk for diabetes and its related common health problems.

Non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs) are currently the largest global cause of adult mortality, one of the principal burdens of disease in developed and underdeveloped countries. Their main causes are well known, tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and the harmful use of alcohol. The prevalence of these risk factors is directly related to the activities of transnational corporations (TNCs). For example, just the TNC budgets dedicated to advertising risky consumption are larger than the budget of the World Health Organization. A literature survey shows that NCDs have important long-term macroeconomic impacts, whose detailed evaluation has only just begun. The sheer burden on the working and aged population implies strong impacts on labor, saving and investment, as well as increased human capital depreciation. These will all impact long-term economic growth. It is a research priority to quantify these impacts. However, in the context of globalization, NCD is developing faster than its rigorous analysis. Research results show that what is needed is preventive action. This requires a global institutional framework capable of controlling NCD risk factors, which can also promote health and economic growth in general. Developing legal mechanisms to slow the negative impact of the deficient nutrition transition would be a step in that direction. Global markets need to be balanced with global governance holding TNCs responsible for their impact, promoting cooperative solutions when available, and taxing them so that they carry their fair share of social weight.

Bilateral simultaneous ruptures are rare comprising less than 1% of all Achilles tendon ruptures. Risk factors for bilateral ruptures include chronic diseases and medications such as corticosteroids and fluoroquinolones. There is little in the literature on the long-term functional outcome of bilateral Achilles tendon ruptures. This article present a series of 3 cases of simultaneous and spontaneous bilateral Achilles tendon ruptures with a minimum of 5-year follow up suggesting a good functional outcome. The article provides an overview of modern foreign studies aimed at investigating the main risk factors for depressive disorders in different categories of the population during the pandemic. First of all, attention was paid to the analysis of the influence of socio-psychological, social, age and occupational factors on the formation of depressive symptoms. Studies show a sharp increase in depression and anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been found that patients with COVID-19, medical professionals directly in contact with COVID-19 cases, patients with any chronic diseases before the pandemic, and women in the perinatal period are most prone to developing depressive and anxiety conditions. In addition to describing common risk factors for development and display of depression, the results of foreign studies provide an understanding of the age-related effects of depressive conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Introduction: Gynaecological and obstetric surgeries are high risk operations for the development of postoperative inflammatory complications due to the proximity of the genitourinary tract. The aim of this study was to compare the frequency of inflammatory complications in emergency or elective cases of caesarean sections as well as the frequency of complications related to the method of surgical treatment used.Methods: We analyzed inflammatory complications in 450 caesarean sections, which developed in a one year period from June 1st, 2000. to June 1st 2001. Patients were grouped according to the method of the surgery, and on emergency or elective case. Misgav Ladach or Dorfler surgical methods were used.Results: The most common inflammatory complication was wound infection and the most common risk factors for inflammatory complications were premature rupture of membranes and anemia.Conclusions: Long term use of one antibiotic was the most commonly implemented form of antibiotic prophylaxis.

AbstrakStroke merupakan penyakit akibat gangguan peredaran darah otak yang dipengaruhi oleh banyak faktor risiko terdiri dari yang tidak dapat diubah berupa usia dan jenis kelamin dan yang dapat diubah seperti hipertensi, peningkatan kadar gula darah, dislipidemia, dan pekerjaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui distribusi tipe stroke dan faktor risiko yang berpengaruh pada pasien stroke rawat inap di RSUD Kabupaten Solok Selatan. Metode penelitian: Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan menggunakan data skunder pasien stroke yang dirawat di RSUD Solok Selatan. Data yang diambil meliputi usia, jenis kelamin, tekanan darah, kadar gula darah, profil lipid saat pertama pasien masuk rumah sakit, dan pekerjaan. Sampel penelitian adalah seluruh pasien stroke yang pernah dirawat di Bagian Penyakit Dalam RSUD Kabupaten Solok Selatan pada periode 1 Januari 2010 – 31 Juni 2012 yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi. Hasil penelitian: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan proporsi stroke terbanyak adalah stroke ischemic (61,46%), perempuan (54,17%) yang berusia >50 tahun (81,25%) yang bekerja sebagai ibu rumah tangga (43,75%). Faktor risiko yang dapat diubah tertinggi adalah hipertensi (82,30%) diikuti kolesterol total meningkat (69,79%). Faktor risiko tertinggi pada stroke ischemic adalah gula darah meningkat (47,89%) dan pada stroke hemorrhagic adalah hipertensi (100,00%). Faktor risiko tertinggi pada seluruh pasien adalah hipertensi (82,30%). Kesimpulan: Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini disimpulkan bahwa stroke tipe ischemic lebih banyak dari tipe hemorrhagic dengan faktor risiko utama hipertensi, sedangkan stroke ischemic terutama dipengaruhi oleh peningkatan gula darah.Kata kunci: stroke ischemic, stroke hemorrhagic, faktor risiko strokeAbstractStroke is a disease caused by disorder of brain blood circulation with many risk factors that contribute in this disease, consist of non modifiable risk factor including age and sex and modifiable risk factors example hypertension, high glucose level, dyslipidemia, and jobs. This study aimed to determine the distribution of the type of stroke and the risk factors that affect to stroke patients who were treat in South Solok hospital.Methods: This research is descriptive research using secondary data, including the patient’s medical record. The data including age, gender, blood pressure, glucose level, lipid profile when the first patient in the hospital, and jobs. The samples were all stroke patients who had been treat in the Department of Internal Medicine of South Solok hospital in the period from January 1st 2010 until June 31th 2012 that meet the inclusion criteria.The results: The results showed the highest proportion of strokes were ischemic stroke (61.46%), women (54.17%) aged> 50 years (81.25%) who work as housewives (43.75%). The highest of modifiable risk factors are hypertension (82.30%) followed by increases in total cholesterol (69.79%). The highest risk factors for ischemic stroke is high glucose level (47.89%) and for hemorrhagic stroke is hypertension (100.00%). The highest risk in both ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic is hypertension (82.30%).Conclusion: Based on the end result, we can concluded that the insidence of ischemic stroke disease is greater than hemorrhagic stroke, and as the main risk factor is hypertension, mean while ischemic stroke is most affected by high glucose level.Keywords: stroke ischemic, stroke hemorrhagic, faktor risiko stroke

Abstract Background Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a heterogeneous disease with well-known genetic and environmental risk factors contributing to its prevalence. Epigenetic mechanisms related to changes in DNA methylation (DNAm), may also contribute to T2D risk, but larger studies are required to discover novel markers, and to confirm existing ones. Results We performed a large meta-analysis of individual epigenome-wide association studies (EWAS) of prevalent T2D conducted in four European studies using peripheral blood DNAm. Analysis of differentially methylated regions (DMR) was also undertaken, based on the meta-analysis results. We found three novel CpGs associated with prevalent T2D in Europeans at cg00144180 (HDAC4), cg16765088 (near SYNM) and cg24704287 (near MIR23A) and confirmed three CpGs previously identified (mapping to TXNIP, ABCG1 and CPT1A). We also identified 77 T2D associated DMRs, most of them hypomethylated in T2D cases versus controls. In adjusted regressions among diabetic-free participants in ALSPAC, we found that all six CpGs identified in the meta-EWAS were associated with white cell-types. We estimated that these six CpGs captured 11% of the variation in T2D, which was similar to the variation explained by the model including only the common risk factors of BMI, sex, age and smoking (R2 = 10.6%). Conclusions This study identifies novel loci associated with T2D in Europeans. We also demonstrate associations of the same loci with other traits. Future studies should investigate if our findings are generalizable in non-European populations, and potential roles of these epigenetic markers in T2D etiology or in determining long term consequences of T2D.

Abstract Background: Risk analysis file will never be closed in the technical documentation of the dental implants for the marketing purpose. In this paper the most common risk factors categorized as implant-related risks, surgeon-related risks, patient-related risks, and maintenance-related risks in the manufacturing process, application, the long term usage and the so-called survival rate of dental implants are studied. Methods: The importance of any of the potential risk factors directly related to the product or the processes which are indirectly related to the product quality are assessed based on their severity and probability of occurrence. Proper measurement called as mitigations are considered to standardize the risks to the acceptable criteria.Results: The equivalent risk assessment factors are compared in pre-mitigation and post-mitigation stages. The aim was to see whether the factor reduces to the acceptable or conditionally acceptable state for each risk or not.Conclusion: Through this comprehensive study, the risk analysis file is completed however it can be even more complete, in the future, at this industry. In the further studies, discretizing the steps of severity or probability to finer steps, and ultimately converting them to a continuous form would be aimed.

Healthcare and NHS faces many challenges in monitoring health conditions specially for patients with long term health conditions and the elderly. The forward view for healthcare providers and the NHS is moving from the hospital routine medical checks towards home environment care with the use of smart IoT and AI. Medication errors and missed medication across the globe, is the main source of harm to the public health. Technologies, specifically wireless health technologies are potential solutions for medication error and medication nonadherence in tracking patients’ medication. This paper presented a solution by developing a real-time wireless sensor network to monitor and check patient’s health condition using devices that transmits data from homes wirelessly to the relevant (caregiver, GP, Hospitals and specialist doctors). The proposed system benefits form the use of algorithms, which is used to provide the quality and quick health care advice to the patients at home. The algorithm processes the data from the database webserver. The database stores the patient health history conditions with all measurement obtained from the devices, such as blood pressure, blood glucose, heart rate and body temperature. This data is processed in machine learning algorithm to generate notifications for any changes occur in user’s health and by checking their history records. ML can detect patterns within patient healthcare records and inform clinicians of any anomalies.

ObjectiveCardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the number one cause of death in the US and Nevada is ranked 11th highest for CVD mortality. The study sought to examine the association between self-reported risk factors and CVD presence among adult Nevadans, between years 2011 and 2017.MethodsThis is a cross-sectional, population-based study that utilized the 2011 and 2017 Nevada Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data. Data were analyzed between 2019 and 2020.ResultsA total of 5,493 and 3,764 subjects in 2011 and 2017, respectively were included. BMI (overweight/obesity) remained the most prevalent CVD risk factor. The second most common CVD risk factor was high cholesterol, followed by hypertension. Compared to females, males were 1.64 times more likely to have reported CVD in 2011, which increased to 1.92 in 2017. Compared to non-smokers, everyday smokers were 1.96 times more likely in 2011 and 3.62 times more likely in 2017. Individuals with high cholesterol status were 2.67 times more likely to have reported CVD compared to those with normal levels in 2011. In 2011, individuals with hypertension were 3.74 times more likely to have reported CVD compared to those who did not have hypertension. This relationship increased its magnitude of risk to 6.18 times more likely in 2017. In 2011, individuals with diabetes were 2.90 times more likely to have reported CVD compared to those without the condition.ConclusionsPublic health and healthcare providers need to target preventable cardiovascular risk factors and develop recommendations and strategies locally, nationally, and globally.
