Abstract The recent epidemic caused by the Covid-19 virus, which originated in China and then spread rapidly, can rightly be defined as the real 'first' epidemic in the social era. In an increasingly globalized world other recent epidemics (but more circumscribed, even if severely more lethal, such as Ebola and Sars) have been experienced with less media and emotional involvement, while the recent epidemic due to the new coronavirus has generated deserving reactions of analysis from an anthropological and social point of view, rather than on a health aspect. In Italy the epidemic event provoked sometimes excessive and irrational psychological reactions (from an unjustified panic to an irresponsible underestimation) and a cognitive distortion on anthropological level (wrong perspective perception of the pathological event). It has also generated disproportionate social repercussions at national level (refusal of stay for subjects coming from the lands in which diseased people are present) and at international level (foreclosure of landing of Italian tourists in some foreign countries). There was also incorrect medical information (confusion between infected - asymptomatic and/or non-hospitalized paucisymptomatic -, real patients with important symptoms - hospitalized - and sometimes in need of intensive care, subjects - the elderly and carriers of other serious diseases - died not for but with the Covid-19 infection) generated and amplified also by the pounding informative role of the mass media and by the news (often inaccurate and generating fake-news) spread in real time through social media. Key messages Irrational reactions must be avoided. Correct medical information are indispensable.

Language learning experiences seem to lead to advantages for the elderly in the social, psychological and cognitive spheres. Learning languages is not only useful for the quality of life of the elderly and for their active participation in society, but it also has an important role in stimulating and maintaining cognitive resources, increasing cognitive reserves and countering their decline favouring the development of compensation processes. From this point of view, learning languages for the elderly is not only possible but it is also desirable. This justifies a FL geragogic model, called cognitive-emotional scaffolding, which can become the basis of a project to teach foreign languages to elderly learners.

Migration of young people to big cities, active outflow of population to other regions of the country and for permanent residence in foreign countries forces to search more and more actively for new methods and technologies both to inform young people about their opportunities in the territory, and to change tools for retention for further development of cities and small settlements. In most cases the analysis of state and municipal policies for working with youth is determined by the economic sense, that is, the economic and financial efficiency of implemented programs is analyzed. The authors approached the problem under consideration from the sociological point of view in order to determine the needs directly from the subject, as well as to assess the managerial and organizational problems and obstacles to increasing the importance of activities for young citizens. The testing ground for the study was the Chaikovsky urban district in Perm Krai (population 103,000, medium-sized city).

The main aim of this paper is to present the impact which the Government Program for Social Participation of Senior Citizens (in Polish: Rządowy Program na rzecz Aktywności Społecznej Osób Starszych; ASOS) for the years 2014-2020 had on the social activation of the elderly in Poland, based on a case study of one project. The first part of the article presents a justification for research concerning the activation of the elderly in Poland. Next, the paper discusses the main objective of ASOS, as well as its significance as the first national-level public intervention for social activation of the elderly in Poland. Then, the effects of ASOS on the social activation of the elderly are analyzed. The analysis is based on a qualitative approach to impact evaluation of the Active Regardless of Age project, which was co-financed by ASOS. Finally, the authors identify a list of various types of outcomes achieved by the project which apply to social activation of the elderly. Moreover, the issue of generalizing the project findings for the entire ASOS is discussed. Finally, the paper presents research results of the Innovative Social Investment: Strengthening Communities in Europe (InnoSI) project funded under the Horizon 2020 Program.

ABSTRACT

In today´s world, there is a dynamic behavior that becomes a constant feature in order to reach market expansion; it requires a lot of effort to change the way of government thinking with the social policies and enterprises that have been engaged with strategies for a long time. Productivity is the answer but in a broader point of view, productivity is a state of mind. It fosters continuous improvement and represents the key to succeed competing in today´s globalized world. In formulating specific measures for productivity improvement we also took into consideration the social responsibility and human welfare implications which have become a matter of growing concern. Also with the productivity movement, a region ensures economic growth, fostering entrepreneurship and SMEs capabilities and therefore increasing employment opportunities. In this regard, an action research was made for the deployment of a structure called Local Productivity Arrangements and it was applied in Frailes, a Costa Rican region, historically based on coffee growing. In this respect, an alternative for the region was made by entrepreneurial housewives and a key role was played by them in the domestic economic development through the creation of new SMEs.

Technology has become ubiquitous, and without it it is hardly possible to imagine everyday human life. As a result of their active use, the individual feels as if he is an important participant in various processes taking place in a globalized world. The purpose of this theoretical and analytical study is to analyze the potential of the social representations theory to study the transformations that occur to a person in a digital society. Theory makes it possible to answer the question of how a person builds an explanation for a new phenomenon and builds his behavior in accordance with it. The modern era is an era of visual culture, where the power of texts (which corresponded to the generation of parents) was replaced by the power of pictures (at the level of the adolescents and young people). This feature can be viewed through the prism of the ideas of this theory, speaking of figurative and linguistic rhetorics. Finally, the theory of social representations allows us to articulate the processes of communication, social representations, and explain how the latter regulate social behavior and social relations in the digital society.

This research deals with the development of self concept of Hiroko as the main character in Namaku Hiroko by Nh. Dini and tries to identify how Hiroko is portrayed in the story, how she interacts with other characters and whether she is portrayed as a character dominated by ”I” element or ”Me” element seen from sociological and cultural point of view. As a qualitative research in nature, the source of data in this research is the novel Namaku Hiroko (1967) and the data ara analyzed and presented deductively. The result of this analysis shows that in the novel, Hiroko as a fictional character is portrayed as a girl whose personality develops and changes drastically from ”Me” to ”I”. When she was still in the village l iving with her parents, she was portrayed as a obedient girl who was loyal to the parents, polite and acted in accordance with the social customs. In short, her personality was dominated by ”Me” self concept. On the other hand, when she moved to the city (Kyoto), she was portrayed as a wild girl no longer controlled by the social customs. She was firm and determined totake decisions of her won for her future without considering what other people would say about her. She did not want to be treated as object. To put it in another way, her personality is more dominated by the ”I” self concept.

Quality of life and satisfaction with life as tightly interconnected concepts have become of much importance in the urbanism era. No doubt, it is one of the most important goals of every human society to enhance a citizen’s quality of life and to increase their satisfaction with life. However, there are many signs which demonstrate the low level of life satisfaction of Iranian citizens especially among the youth. Thus, considering the temporal concept of life satisfaction, this research aims to make a futures study in this field. Therefore, using a mixed model and employing research methods from futures studies, life satisfaction among the students of the University of Tehran were measured and their views on this subject investigated. Both quantitative and qualitative data were analysed together in order to test the hypotheses and to address the research questions on the youth discontentment with quality of life. Findings showed that the level of life satisfaction among students is relatively low and their image of the future is not positive and not optimistic. These views were elicited and discussed in the social, economic, political, environmental and technological perspectives. Keywords: futures studies, quality of life, satisfaction with life, youth
