Abstract Background The COVID-19 is the first pandemic in history where technology and social media can be used to keep people safe and informed. The correct management of information has been recognized as a critical part of controlling the COVID-19 pandemic. The objective of this study is to create a source of information about COVID-19 that is reliable, accessible, and easy to share while providing literature references. Methods An Instagram account named @cienciacontracovid19 was created in 2020. In this account, the most relevant up-to-date medical information of COVID-19 is published daily in Spanish. All the account’s content is made by two infectious diseases specialists and a general practitioner. After 6 months since the creation of the account, we performed a survey to assess the followers perception of the usefulness of @cienciacontracovid19 during the pandemic. Results The account was opened in November 2020. Figure 1 QR to access. Currently, the account has 9,534 followers from 5 Latin-American countries; 48% are between 25-34 years old, 76.6% are women, and 52% are healthcare workers. Until May 2021, 142 educational slides, 3 educational videos and 5 webinars have been posted. In the last 30 days, @cienciacontracovid19 has had 10,540 interactions and growth of +125% reaching 22,000 users. We conducted a survey in April 2021, in which 3,556 people answered. The following results were obtained: 76% considered that the information was always useful in their daily lives and 17% frequently useful. 77% affirmed that the information shared was always reliable and 47% consider that the information differed from other sources of information since it is easy to understand and 34% because it has bibliographic references to support it. 85% responded that the information shared in the account kept them from putting themselves at risk. When asking if the information shared has made them feel safer by being informed, 49% answered always and 44% frequently. QR to access the instagram account Conclusion @cienciacontracovid19 has been a valuable source of scientific information with a positive impact on its users. Its implementation has been a practical medical education tool during the COVID-19 pandemic. UNSTRUCTURED This research study was designed to understand physician awareness and engagement with social media (sometimes referred to as #SoMe) within the digital landscape of healthcare delivery. An audience-response survey focused on social media “Social media in Healthcare: Physician Survey”, was administered during the “A Systematic Approach to Medically Unexplained Symptoms” continuing medical education conference. The Conference took place between August 22, 2019 and August 24, 2019. Data was collected on August 23, 2019. A range of 103 (59.5%) to 112 (64.7%) of the total 173 attendees participated in this cross-sectional audience-response survey, depending on the questions answered. Most responders were between the ages of 35 and 65 years (79.6%) and female (60.2%). A majority of responders were aware of social media terminology (88.7%), and many had used it personally (46.7%), but only 12% knew how to use social media to search medical topics, 18% used it to network professionally and most (68.9%) had a distrust of social media when it came to the protection of their privacy or their patients’ privacy. Overall, about 29.6% indicated an interest in future continued medical education focused on social media (and 27.4% were neutral). Awareness of social media’s role in healthcare has increased among physicians in practice, however their participation and knowledge of opportunities remains limited. Distance from academic institutions and concerns about privacy play the largest roles in the aversion towards professional use of social media.

Land managers are currently faced with a nexus of challenges, both ecological and social, when trying to govern natural open spaces. While social media has led to many challenges for effective land management and governance, the technology has the potential to support key activities related to habitat restoration, awareness-raising for policy changes, and increased community resilience as the impacts of increased use and climate change become more apparent. Through the use of a case study examining the work of the Central Arizona Conservation Alliance’s social media ambassadorship and its app-supported community science projects, we examine the potential and realized positive impact that technology such as social media and smartphone apps can create for land managers and surrounding communities.

An estimated 2.62 billion people use social networking sites worldwide. Only recently have studies been carried out to explore the impact of social media in terms of creating new conditions such as cyberbullying, Internet addictions, and suicide contagion, among many other forms of mental health concerns. However, social media can play a role in education and public mental health interventions. Different types of social media include computerized self-help strategies, online psychotherapy and support groups, websites with medical information, forums, blogs, web applications, mobile apps, games, and networking platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Google+, Snapchat, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, Pinterest, and Reddit. There are generational differences in the degree of familiarity and use of social media for gathering information and seeking education. The challenge for clinicians and public health educators is to try and use social media for betterment of society.
