The chapter examined the impact of social media on information retrieval among undergraduate students in Faculty of Management Science, University of Ilorin. It determined the social media network that undergraduate students are more exposed to for retrieving information, identifying the differences in undergraduate students' usage of social media network for information retrieval based on gender and age brackets, exploring preference for social media compared to other sources of information retrieval system available for students, exploring the types of information retrieved from social media network, and identifying the challenges faced by undergraduates in the use of social media networks. The population of the study was comprised of 3,634 students out of which a sample of 360 was chosen through stratified random technique. A self-designed questionnaire was used to collect data. Five research questions were developed and answered by the study. The findings revealed that undergraduate students' exposure to social media is very high.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a broad and complex area of study, which can be difficult for non-specialists to understand. Yet, its ultimate promise is to create computer systems that manifest human intelligence. This chapter coins “Machinzation” for the application of literary machine (computer) to human operations. This clearly has major implications for library and information science profession. In principle and practice, AI has penetrated virtually all walks of human life. Many authors have previously provided in-depth overviews of AI technologies. Service is the vocal point of librarianship and particularly in the era where information is the fifth and most important factor of production. Cloud computing stems from the principle of AI while when applied into the operations and routines in libraries and information center gives a brand new concept “CloudLibrarianship.” The new concept is dealt with in this work. Emergence of this concept opens up the entrepreneur opportunities in the information sector of the economy-inforpreneurship. This chapter therefore examines certain key aspects of AI that determine its potential utility as a tool for enhancing and supporting library operations.

This chapter is on relevance of Web 2.0 for library services in digital era. Web 2.0 tools play crucial role in effective service delivery of librarians. The study covers awareness, utilization, benefits, and challenges that affect the use of Web 2.0 by librarians for effective service delivery. The concepts generally implied that Web 2.0 can be used by librarians as information acquisition tools to gather information from sources outside libraries (e.g., blogs and wikis), information dissemination tools (such as RSS feeds), information organization tools that facilitate storage and subsequent retrieval of information (social bookmarking and tagging), and information sharing tools that facilitate the bilateral flow of information between libraries and patrons (social networking and media sharing sites). This chapter examines the concept of digital libraries and highlights the major features of a digital library and how it can be used. The potentials of digital library are very crucial as means of access to knowledge and information that will facilitate development.

With the rapid advancement in technology in the last two decades, mainly because of the advent of the internet, the world no longer works the same. The advent of wireless networks and more recently mobile devices such as smart phones, tablets, etc. following the internet, contributed a lot their applicability in library's operations. As contained in extant literature, mobile devices have become a very important part of communication not only for telephone service users but also for the internet users. The two main reasons behind success of mobile technology is the benefits such as mobility and ubiquity served by mobile devices. To this end, the chapter explores the application of mobile technology on service delivery in libraries, the advantages and disadvantages. Also highlighted were the skills required by the librarians in incorporating mobile technologies to library services.

This chapter examines the library markers space in academic and public libraries. These spaces are specifically designed to meet the unexpressed needs of library users and to influence them to profitably engage in the library by creating physical or digital objects, which are open for the free use of all library users. Library makers space enables graphic arts, web design, and animation, and assists students in their projects that involve digital images. Nevertheless, factors such as lack of technical skills, inadequate power supply, and lack of trained manpower distort the application of library markers space in academic and public libraries.

This case will describe a school librarian's experiences in assisting the faculty and staff of a public high school as they attempted to adopt school-wide learning management system. A compelling example of change management, this initiative describes solutions to challenges common to many types of schools and libraries. This installation served as a local and early solution in developing teachers' skill in online learning management and asynchronous communication with students outside of school hours. Details include the conditions and procedures of the Moodle implementation, the leadership philosophies which facilitated collaboration, and the change dynamics at the school which led to a successful outcome.

Libraries are gradually becoming spaces for discovery, innovation, and community empowerment by catering to the various needs of the public. To harness the unlimited resources in the library, library digital signage is the perfect tool to help transform old buildings and spaces into a place of collaboration and innovation. Since it's a content-centric solution at its core, digital signs can go beyond looping a series of pictures. It's an intelligent tool that can tailor-fit content relative to the audience, location, time of the day, and even process. This chapter will address the different roles of signages and buttress the fact that digital signage can play a major role in this communication process in addition to demonstrating a “green” environment for library patrons. Graphic information can be displayed to the public in meeting rooms, at the front desk, in vestibules or cafeterias/cafes. The messaging can range from programs being held at the library to public service announcements to emergency messaging and so much more. There is no limit to the information that a library signage can convey to its users.

There is a common saying that “books are the windows to the world.” Despite the fact that in this digital age the leading role is taken by the internet, books still play their part as openings to the vast knowledge. It is no longer news that changes have been brought to the book world due to the development in modern technology. As we have printed contents, so also are digital version of books or e-books which can be read on any digital devices with e-book reader applications installed. This development enables people to have a library in their pockets. This chapter examines the experience of Nigeria and the utilization of mobile devices, libraries, e-book readers, and mobile devices for reading. This chapter will also discuss the future potential of mobile applications in libraries and opportunities associated with e-book readers and mobile devices. This chapter also identifies the challenges associated with the use of e-book readers and mobile devices and the way forward towards promoting the use of e-book readers and mobile devices for reading in Nigeria.

Cloud computing is an umbrella term used to describe a category of sophisticated on-demand computing services. Libraries generally have been adopting cloud-based solutions for different services such as electronic journal access management, integrated library system (ILS) hosting, electronic databases, digital library hosting, and cloud OPAC. This chapter discusses how cloud computing technology tools can be deployed to ensure uniformity in library services and standard of information resources available to students at all the study centers spread across the six geo-political zones. The chapter concludes that cloud computing offers many opportunities for academic libraries, and especially for the NOUN Library.
