Seawater intrusion caused by groundwater over-exploitation is a kind of geological disaster caused by human economic activities and natural environment changes. Using freshwater recharge curtain technology is an effective means to prevent seawater intrusion. Based on the analysis of the characteristics of seawater intrusion in Pingtan island, Fujian Province, and in view of the possible seawater intrusion problems in the construction of Luyangpu underground reservoir in Pingtan Island, this paper expounds the basic principle of seawater intrusion prevention with freshwater recharge curtain , the technical measures of installing a row of recharge wells in the northern coastal zone of Luyangpu plain in Pingtan Island and using freshwater recharge curtain are put forward to prevent seawater intrusion. Through groundwater numerical simulation, the dynamic distribution of groundwater level in the north of Pingtan Island in the next 20 years is analyzed and predicted. The results show that the seawater intrusion can be effectively prevented by installing freshwater curtain recharge wells in the northern coast of Luyangpu.

The effects of opening-up meditation on college adjustment and self-actualization were examined with 45 subjects who were divided into groups for opening-up meditation, relaxation, and control using scores on the Anxiety Scale of the College Adjustment Scales. Subjects also completed the Personal Orientation Inventory. 1 hr. of training for the meditation and relaxation groups was given and 20 min./day practice requested. After 2 and 4 wk. anxiety and family problem scores significantly increased for the meditation group as did scores on the Feeling Reactivity Scale. Analysis was compromised by high dropout (leaving 3, 4, and 3 subjects, respectively, in the meditation, relaxation, and control groups).

These changes in climate increase the vulnerability to wildfires. Wildfires can change soil physical and chemical properties. However, these effects can be mitigated by mulching. The aim of this work is to study the effects of mulch (<em>Olea europea</em> and <em>Pinus halepensis</em>) on fire affected soils. The wildfire occurred on 28 July 2019 and affected an area of about 900 ha in Dalmatia, near Adriatic Coast (43°45'06.0"N 15°56'02.9"E with an elevation of 105 m a.s.l.).  The mean annual temperature is 15.8 °C, and the annual precipitation is 800 mm. It was affected agricultural land with dominant culture <em>Olea europea</em> and abandoned grassing where dominates <em>Pinus halepensis</em>. Soils are classified as <em>calcocambisols</em>. Twenty-five days after the fire, two plots (5 treatments per plot) were established and covered with <em>Olea europea</em> and <em>Pinus halepensis</em> mulch. A control plot was established as well. Soil were sampled (0 – 5 cm), twenty- days after fire (August, 2019), before mulch application, and then 3 months after fire (November, 2019). A total of 15 samples were collected per treatment (45 each sampling date). The soil properties analysed were soil pH, soil organic matter (SOM), mean weight diameter (MWD) to express aggregate stability, and soil water repellency (SWR) measured with water drop penetration time method (WDPT) in different fractions (2 – 1 mm; 1 – 0.5 mm, 0.5 – 0.25 mm, and <0.25 mm). Soil pH was not significantly different among sampling dates and treatments. SOM was significantly different among sampling dates for <em>Olea europeae</em> treatment and control. <em>Olea europeae</em> treatment had a significantly higher SOM then <em>Pinus halepensis</em> and control treatment. MWD was significantly higher within <em>Olea europeae</em> treatment. Within <em>Pinus halepensis</em> and control treatment no significant difference was observed. The soil was classified as slightly water repellent (5 – 60 seconds) in <em>Olea europeae</em> soil finer fraction (0.5 – 0.25 mm and <0.25) in both sampling dates. In <em>Pinus halepensis</em> treatments and control, soil was wettable (<5 seconds), and no significant difference was observed among sampling date. Future sampling and analysis will be conducted during one year to estimate the effect of <em>Olea europeae</em> and <em>Pinus halepensis</em> mulch on soil properties.</p><p><strong>Keywords: </strong>Wildfire, <em>Olea europeae</em><strong>, </strong><em>Pinus halepensis</em>, mulch.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Acknowledgments</strong></p><p>This work was supported by Croatian Science Foundation through the project "Influence of Summer Fire on Soil and Water Quality” (IP-01-2018-1645).</p>

AbstractAmphiphilic macromolecular micelles are advantageous for drug delivery applications due to the decrease of side-effects, ease of screening drugs against degradation, long-term stability, targeted delivery and control of the amount of the released drug. A series of amphiphilic azo-polymers having a flexible or rigid main-chain were synthesized and characterized. The presence of chlorobenzyl side-groups allowed both the easy bonding of photo-sensitive or hydrophilic groups and good control of the degree of substitution. The chemical structure was confirmed by 1H-NMR. The critical concentration of aggregation (CCA) was calculated using the fluorescence emission spectrum of pyrene. The interest was focused on a preliminary study concerning the disaggregation capacity of micelles under UV irradiation. The presence of micellar aggregates was confirmed by DLS and SEM and different organization of the amphiphilic polymers was evidenced depending on polymers concentration and polymers structure. In low polymer concentrations in water predominantly globular aggregates were formed. The increase in concentration increased the polydispersity index due to the fusion of micelles and formation of associates of globular aggregates, inter-micellar associates (clusters) and vesicles.

Background: The world faced crises of prevention and control and shortage of medical resources during the COVID-19 (Corona Virus Disease 2019) outbreak. The establishment of temporary integrated isolation wards in hospitals, which is universal and representative in China, is one of the most-effective strategies in solving these problems according to China's experiences.Aim: To conduct a preliminary study on the establishment of a temporary integrated isolation ward during the outbreak of COVID-19 and to evaluate related impact. Methods: SWOT analysis was used to analyze the advantages, disadvantages, opportunities, and risks in the establishment of the temporary integrated isolation ward, and corresponding corrective measures were made according to the analysis results.Findings: The ward has formulated more than 10 related work procedures and prevention and control measures. A total of 93 patients with 18 critically ill patients were admitted for treatment and isolation. They were all evaluated based on established procedures and protocols. Twenty-four supplementary nucleic acid tests were ordered and conducted. One new patient with COVID-19 was confirmed and was successfully transferred to the designated COVID-19 infectious control hospital. There were no missed diagnosis or misdiagnosis, no cross-infection of patients, no cluster outbreak, and no infection of medical workers during the entire process. Conclusion: SWOT analysis is helpful in guiding the establishment of a temporary integrated isolation ward and the formulation of prevention and control measures in Hebei General Hospital during the COVID-19 outbreak. It provides the guidance and reference of significance for the establishment of similar types of wards in the future.
