Erosion Mechanism and Sensitivity Parameter Analysis of Natural Gas Curved Pipeline

With the deepening of natural gas exploitation, the problem of sand production in gas wells is becoming more and more serious, especially in high-yield gas wells. The solid particles in natural gas are very likely to cause erosion and wear of downstream pipelines and throttling manifolds, which makes the pipeline ineffective. Once the pipeline is damaged, the natural gas leaks, which may cause serious catastrophic accidents. In this paper, the impact of sand particles on the pipeline wall is predicted by the analysis of the research on bent and continuous pipeline combined with particle collision model. The parameters of different particles (particle shape factor, particle velocity, and particle diameter), different bent parameters (angle, diameter, and curvature-to-diameter ratio), and the influence of different continuous pipeline parameters (assembly spacing and angle) are explored on the erosion and wear mechanism of curved pipeline. The results show that the shape of the particles has a great influence on the wear of the curved pipeline. As the shape factor of the particles decreases, the wear tends to decrease. The bent area is subject to erosion changes as the particle parameters and piping parameters. The increase in pipeline diameter is beneficial to reduce the maximum and the average erosion wear rate. When the bent angle of the pipeline is less than 90 deg, the maximum erosion wear rate is basically the same. But when it is greater than 90 deg, it decreases with the increase in the bent angle. When the assembly angle of double curved pipeline is between 0 deg and 60 deg, the elbow is subject to severe erosion wear. At the same time, increasing the assembly spacing is beneficial to reduce the erosion wear rate. The research can provide a theoretical support for subsequent engineering applications.

Abstract The olive pomace erosion wear behavior of carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy composite (epoxy/CF) has been analyzed. A tribological test was carried out using an in house centrifugal testing setup in order to simulate the environment in olive oil extraction procedure. The environment is composed from a pomace-to-water ratio 70/30. The erosion wear-rate of this composite has been studied at different impact angles (45 deg and 90 deg) and at different impact velocities (200, 1200, 1500, and 2000 rpm). It was demonstrated that both the impact angle and the impact velocity have a significant effect on the carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy composite erosive wear-rate. The main findings reveal an erosive wear characterized by brittle damage; in fact, micro-cracks at the surfaces and sub-surfaces were found. The damage surfaces were marked by fragmented fibers.

The slurry erosion wear performances of the SiCp/cast iron surface composite, which was prepared by infiltrating molten cast iron into SiC particles preforms, were studied on self-made slurry inject erosion wear machine. The results show that the erosion wear rate of the SiCp/cast iron surface composite would be the lowest at impact angle of 30°, and the largest at impact angle of 60°. The erosion wear rate increases gradually when impact angle is changed from 30° to 60°, and then decreased with increasing the impact angle. The erosion wear mechanism of the SiCp/cast iron surface composite is dominated by cutting and grooving at low impact angle, and by fatigue spalling and cutting at high impact angle. For the gray cast iron, the erosion wear rate of would be increased gradually with the increase of impact angle, reaching the peak value at 90°, which indicates the typical characteristics of brittle material in slurry erosion wear process.

Among the well-known state-of-the-art technologies for CO2 capture, Chemical Looping Combustion (CLC) stands out for its potential to capture CO2 efficiently from a fuel power plant. CLC involves the combustion of carbonaceous fuel such as coal-derived syngas or natural gas via a redox chemical reaction with a solid oxygen carrier circulating between two fluidised beds. Avoided NOx emissions, high CO2 capture and thermal efficiency are the key concepts that make worth the investigation of this technology. One of the main issues about CLC might concern the impact of the solid metal oxides price and lifetime on the Levelised Cost Of the Electricity (LCOE). A natural gas fired power plant embedding a CLC unit is presented in this work. Detailed fluidised bed models are implemented in Aspen Plus software. Kinetics and hydrodynamics are taken into account to evaluate their effect on the total solid inventory required for full fuel conversion. The models are incorporated into a power plant and a detailed economic evaluation is undertaken by varying two relevant parameters: fuel price and lifetime of the solid particles. The effect of these parameters on the LCOE is investigated and a comparison between CLC and a post-combustion technology employing amines (e.g. monoethanolamine, MEA) is presented. It is shown that the CLC power plant under study leads to a lower LCOE compared to the current MEA post-combustion solution.

The present experimental study investigates the effect of constant kinetic energy on erosion wear of aluminum alloy 6063. Three different natural erodents (quartz, silicon carbide, and alumina) with different particle sizes are used to impact at 45 deg and 90 deg impact angles. For calculating the number of particles in the slurry pot, it is assumed that the solid particles are of spherical shape. The total numbers of impacting solid particles were kept constant by adjusting the solid concentration, velocity, and test duration. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of the three erodents show that the alumina particles have sharp edges with more angularity, and silicon carbide particles have subangular nature while quartz particles are blocky in shape. The mass loss per particle at 45 deg impact angle is observed higher than at normal impact angle. It may be due to the change in material removal mechanism with changing the impact angle. It is also found that the mass loss per particle from the target material having different particle size with constant kinetic energy remains constant for respective erodents. This indicates that the velocity exponent of impacting particles is around 2. The SEM images of eroded surfaces reveal the different mechanisms of material removal at 45 deg impact angle and at normal impact angle.

The erosion wear experiments of low-chromium cast iron containing nickel were done by MCF-30 Erosion Abrasion Experimental Machine. The structure and surface morphology after erosive wear were analyzed by SEM and XRD. The results indicated that the distribution of carbide was reticular after tempering at 250and oil quenching at 960. The maximal erosion wear rate was appeared at 60 °erosion angle, high acid corrosion media have great influence on the abrasion resistance of experimental material and corrosion effects almost had no influence on the abrasion resistance of experimental material in the weak acid environment of pH≥3. The erosive wear mechanism of the experimental material was studied.

This paper reports on a study of the erosion wear mechanism of the blades of pitched blade impellers in a solid-liquid suspension in order to determine the effect of the impeller speed n as well as the concentration and size of the solid particles on its wear rate. A four-blade pitched blade impeller (pitch angle α = 30°), pumping downwards, was investigated in a pilot plant fully baffled agitated vessel with a water suspension of corundum. The results of  experiments show that the erosion wear rate of the impeller blades is proportional to n2.7 and that the rate exhibits a monotonous dependence (increase) with increasing size of the particles. However, the erosion rate of the pitched blade impellerreaches a maximum at a certain concentration, and above this value it decreases as the proportion of solid particles increases. All results of the investigation are valid under a turbulent flow regime of the agitated batch.

This case presents the stakeholder conflicts that emerge during the development and subsequent reclamation of abandoned natural gas wells in Wyoming where split estate, or the separation of surface land and mineral rights from one another, occurs. From 1998 to 2008, the Powder River Basin of northeastern Wyoming experienced an energy boom as a result of technological innovation that enabled the extraction of coalbed methane (CBM). The boom resulted in over 16,000 wells being drilled in this 20,000 square-mile region in a single decade. As of May 2017, 4,149 natural gas wells now sit orphaned in Wyoming as a result of industry bankruptcy and abandonment. The current orphaned wells crisis was partially enabled by the patchwork of surface and mineral ownership in Wyoming that is a result of a legal condition referred to as split estate. As the CBM boom unfolded in this landscape and then began to wane, challenges emerged most notably surrounding stalled reclamation activities. This case illuminates these challenges highlighting two instances when split estate contributed to issues between landowners and industry operators which escalated to litigation.

Traditionally the products were pushed into the hands of customers by production and selling strategies; then the marketing strategy evolved which gained momentum by understanding the customer needs and developing products satisfying those needs. This strategy is most prevalent and what should be done to stand up in this most competitive scenario? The answer to this key question is to create an experience. The customers now also seek good experiences than other benefits. Brand experience has gained more attention, especially fashion brands. Previous studies demonstrate the role of the brand experience in brand equity and other consumer behavior constructs. But very little is known about the impact of brand experiences on fashion brands. The aim of this study is to develop a model which makes our understanding better about the role of Brand preference and Brand experience and its influence on purchase intention of the brand. An initial exploratory study is conducted using a focus group to generate items for the study. The items, thus generated are prepared in the form of a questionnaire and samples were collected.  Exploratory factor analysis is conducted and the reliability of the constructs is determined. These constructs are loaded onto AMOS to perform Confirmatory factor analysis. The results confirmed the scales used. We also noticed that Brand preference has a great influence on the Brand experience. Thereby the finding supports the role of the brand experience which tends to have a mediating role in influencing the purchase intention.

In the present study, the impact strength, flexural modulus, and wear rate of poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) with eggshell powder (ESP) composites have been investigated. The PMMA used as a matrix material reinforced with ESP at two different states (including untreated eggshell powder (UTESP) and treated eggshell powder (TESP)). Both UTESP and TESP were mixed with PMMA at different weight fractions ranged from (1-5) wt.%. The results revealed that the mechanical properties of the PMMA/ESP composites were enhanced steadily with increasing eggshell contents. The samples with 5 wt.% of UTESP and TESP additions give the maximum values of impact strength, about twice the value of the pure PMMA sample. The calcination process of eggshells powders gives better properties of the PMMA samples compared with the UTESP at the same weight fraction due to improvements in the interface bond between the matrix and particles. The wear characteristics of the PMMA composites decrease by about 57% with increases the weight fraction of TESP up to 5 wt.%. The flexural modulus values are slightly enhanced by increasing of the ESP contents in the PMMA composites.

The relevance of the search for solutions to increase the wear resistance of bucket teeth of excavating machine type front shovel is analyzed. The reasons for the wear of the teeth are considered. It is determined that when excavating machines work for rocks of VIII and IX categories, impact-abrasive wear of the inner side of the teeth and abrasive external wear occurs. It is proved that the cold-work hardening of Hadfield steel (the teeth material), which occurs during the excavating machine teeth work in the rocks of VIII and IX categories, reduces the impact-abrasive wear rate on the inner side of the teeth and does not affect the abrasive wear of the outer. The methods for thermomechanical treatment of the outer side of the excavating machine tooth is proposed. It can increase the wear resistance of Hadfield steel (110G13L) up to 1.7 times and lead to the self-sharpening effect of the tooth due to equalization of the wear rate of the outer and inner parts of the tooth. The efficiency factor of thermomechanical treatment to reduce the of abrasive wear rate of Hadfield steel is experimentally proved.
