This study examined the nature and amount of feedback that more successful and less successful high school varsity volleyball coaches gave to their starting and nonstarting volleyball players. Two of the four coaches studied were considered more successful and two were considered less successful, based on previous regular season win-loss percentages. Players of all the coaches (N=41) were also used as subjects and identified as having either a starting or nonstarting role on the team. All subjects were observed on three occasions for 30 minutes per observation during regular season practice. The Cole Descriptive Analysis System (Cole-DAS) was used to observe coach augmented feedback as it was given to individual players in response to skilled performance. A 2 × 2 multivariate analysis of variance was used to describe the effects of (a) success of the coach, (b) role of the player, and (c) both success of the coach and role of the player on the dependent variables of coach augmented feedback. Results indicated that successful coaches varied considerably from less successful coaches in the types of feedback given to their players. Starting players were also found to receive significantly more audio, audiovisual, and immediate terminal feedback than nonstarting players.

212 Background: Gastric cancer is a prevalent global disease with significant mortality. Nearly 22,220 patients are diagnosed annually in the US, with approximately 50% of them presenting with disease that extends beyond loco-regional confines, and only a small percentage undergoing curative resection. We aim to study the clinical characteristics and survival benefit of surgery in stage IV gastric cancer. Methods: We reviewed the records of all patients diagnosed with gastric cancer in our cancer center from 1999 to 2013. A total of 272 stage IV cases were identified. Demographics, tumor characteristics, treatment modalities (surgical vs. non-surgical) and survival rate were analyzed. Kaplan-Meier was used for survival analysis and Cox regression for univariate and multivariate analysis. Results: Within the cohort 70 (26%) patients received surgery and 202 (74%) were treated with chemotherapy ± radiation. Mean age at diagnosis was 64 years in the surgical (S) patients and 66 years in the non-surgical (NS). Non-Hispanics whites were more likely to receive surgery vs. all other ethnic groups combined, representing 77% vs. 23% of the S subgroup (p<0.0001). Patients with proximal tumors were more likely to receive surgery when compared with distal tumors (37 (53%) vs. 14 (20%), p<0.0001). Total gastrectomy was the most common surgical procedure 33 (47%). There was a significant difference in disease specific survival between the two groups, being 17.3 months for S (95%CI: 11.1-23.4) and 5.3 months for NS (95%CI: 3.8-6.7) (p<0.0001). Age > 70 years (OR: 1.74, p<0.02), proximal tumor location (OR: 0.75, p<0.04), surgery (OR: 0.37, p<0.0001) and extended lymphadenectomy (D2) (OR: 0.26, p<0.02) were independent and significant predictors of survival by multivariate analysis. Conclusions: In our cohort, non-Hispanic whites and patients with proximal tumors were more likely to undergo surgery. A major survival benefit was observed for the surgical subgroup when compared to non-surgical treatment for stage IV gastric cancer. Future research should aim to further elucidate the specific role of surgery, as this could potentially impact management and transform the standard of care in stage IV gastric cancer.

A comparison between 34 adolescents in a court-referred program for prevention of delinquency and 89 students not in the program but from the same high school showed that the students in the program were more likely to receive the social support they desired. Given the program's low rate of recidivism, the role of social support needs to be replicated and explored further.

To investigate the effects of garment hue, garment value, and garment style on college recruiters' assessments of employment potential a 2 × 2 × 2 experimental design was used. Experimental conditions were based on recommendations from a commercial color analysis system to evaluate also the role of personal color analysis. Photographs were attached to questionnaires which contained seven employment potential statements. Factor analysis generated two employment potential factors, Leadership and Compatibility. Multivariate analysis of factor scores yielded a significant 2-way interaction for hue × value. Univariate F tests gave a significant effect for Compatibility. Generally, value appeared to have a greater influence on assessments of employment than did hue. There were no significant effects associated with style of garment. In addition, the results did not fully support the commercial color recommendations.

Abstract Introduction of work-based learning (WBL) in Latvia has required new approaches in decision making of different stakeholders. Experience from countries with long-standing WBL tradition has shown the numerous advantages but also the challenges this approach presents. One of these challenges is the need for new forms and mechanisms of cooperation among the key stakeholders – policy makers, public administrators, employers, educators and social partners. The current paper analyses the results of scientific research in this field, as well as uses the empirical results of two surveys performed by the authors: a survey of public sector experts and a survey of employers in Latvia. In order to obtain detailed results, the evaluations of respondents on multiple aspects analysed in the surveys were evaluation in the scale 1–10. The data of both surveys have been analysed by descriptive analysis, cross-tabulations and multivariate analysis – factor analysis. The results have indicated that the views of employers and social partners on the most of the key aspects of introduction and implementation of WBL are similar. However, a more profound analysis has to be performed in order to develop proposals or the most efficient approach to WBL.
