Capital and operating cost estimates for converting microalgae to oil or biodiesel are compared. These cost comparisons are based on Australian locations, which are expected to fall at the lower end of the cost spectrum in the Asia-Pacific Region and other parts of the world.  It is assumed that microalgae are grown in a concentrated saltwater medium in raceway ponds, then are harvested, dewatered and the oil is extracted and converted to biodiesel by transesterification. The size of the desired pond system affects the number of potential locations due to constraints in resource availability. Cost estimates vary significantly due to differences in the assumed oil productivity, the harvesting equipment and the method of converting residual biomass to electric power. A comparison is made with recent cost estimates from other parts of the world, in which the expected costs of microalgae oil production from a number of publicly available sources lay between 0.34–31.0 USD/L.  The resulting cost estimates of between 1.37—2.66 USD/L are at the lower end of this scale, thereby confirming that Australia has the potential to be a low-cost producer of algal oil and biodiesel in the Asia-Pacific Region.  It was significant that, despite similar assumptions for the microalgae-to-oil process, cost estimates for the final biodiesel or oil price differed by a factor of 2.  This highlights the high degree of uncertainty in such economic predictions. Introduction. Currently, R&D activity is the main in all the top universities in the world because it is focused on the acquisition of new knowledge, while educational is only on the use of acquired knowledge. However, in Ukraine, the trend of academic entrepreneurship development has not yet taken on proper significance. Problem Statement. The implementation of the idea of intensifying the innovation-investment movement in Ukrainian universities involves upgrading the existing innovation-oriented infrastructure and developing an effective plan of action for those universities in which material and technical and intellectual foundation till have a well-preserved. Purpose. formulate strategic approaches to the commercialization of research products in modern mega-universities, which generally involves the intensification of research activities in the context of international academic entrepreneurship education as an imperative for the development of a high-tech, export-oriented and socially responsible model of economy. Materials and Methods. The methods of economic (in particular PEST- and SWOT-analyzes) and logic-structural analysis, methods of comparison, synthesis, forecasting, theoretical generalization, as well as economicstatistical methods of analysis of actual data are used. Results. A result of this initiative is to formulate recommendations and steps to increase the non-budgetary sources of funding for university research and innovation activities in Ukraine, in particular by raising the profitability of intellectual property and the creation of small innovative enterprises. Conclusions. The results obtained will allow us to formulate strategic principles in the development of a new methodological paradigm for the commercialization of the results of intellectual work in universities, taking into account the development trends of the world and the features of national science.

Over the last two decades, Ireland has proactively marketed its educated workforce, its favourable corporate tax rates, membership of the European common market, and other advantages, to multinational technology corporations. The resulting foreign direct investment in high-tech manufacturing operations has driven a booming Irish economy that has come to be characterized as the ‘Celtic Tiger’. Today, however, Ireland is looking to the research and development sector to drive future growth. Competition from low-wage economies, such as those of Eastern Europe, India and China, threatens Ireland's position as a low-cost, high-tech manufacturing base. Across government, industry and the higher education sectors, Ireland is now focused on fashioning an ecosystem of research and innovation that can guarantee its continued prosperity.

For nearly three decades, English has been the lingua franca of cross-border business, yet studies on global language strategies have been scarce. Providing a rare behind-the-scenes look at the high-tech giant Rakuten in the five years following its English mandate, this book explores how language shapes the ways in which employees in global organizations communicate and negotiate linguistic and cultural differences. Drawing on 650 interviews conducted across Rakuten's locations around the world, the book argues that an organization's lingua franca is the catalyst by which all employees become some kind of “expat”—detached from their native tongue or culture. Demonstrating that language can serve as the conduit for an unfamiliar culture, often in unexpected ways, the book uncovers how all organizations might integrate language effectively to tap into the promise of globalization.

Drawing from Van Gennep and Caffee’s conceptualization of liminality, this autoethnographic narrative portrays the author’s rites of passage into academia and through the death of her father. These fundamental developmental transitions and losses emerged concomitantly within the backdrop of a pandemic, further cloaking the world in grief and disequilibrium. Incorporating the voice of the personal as professional, the author portrays her existential struggles in relinquishing her cherished role as a palliative care social worker and living through her dad’s final months during a time of restricted social interaction. Interwoven throughout the narrative appear stories of strife, hope, grief, and professional epiphanies of purpose and insider privilege. The paper embraces both personal and professional conflicts and provides insight into the ways in which the unique setting of a pandemic can provide clarity for navigating the liminal states of separation, transition, and incorporation.
