Nanocrystalline cobalt aluminate (CoAl2O4) was synthesized by the solid-state reaction method with cobalt chloride hexahydrate (CoCl2 · 6H2O) as the source of Co and gibbsite (Al(OH)3) as the source of Al, respectively. The effects of particle size of the starting fine gibbsite (0.6 and 13 μm) and calcination temperatures (450, 550, and 650°C) on the properties of CoAl2O4were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetry analysis and differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV-visible absorption spectroscopy (UV-Vis), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Increasing of calcination temperature promoted the insertion amounts of Co2+in alumina matrix in CoAl2O4structure, which resulted in the brighter blue particles and increasing of UV spectra band. The lowest temperature for the formation of nanocrystalline CoAl2O4particles was 550°C for the solid-state reaction of cobalt chloride and 0.6 μm fine gibbsite.

Purpose This paper aims to clarify the size and morphology of transition metal dichalcogenides has an impact on lubrication performance of Cu-based composites. This study is intended to show that Cu-based electrical contact materials containing Nb0.91Ti0.09Se2 have better electrical and tribological properties than those containing NbSe2. The tribological properties of Cu-based with different Ti-dopped NbSe2 content were also discussed. Design/methodology/approach The NbSe2 and Nb0.91Ti0.09Se2 particles were fabricated by thermal solid state reaction method. The powder metallurgy technique was used to fabricate composites with varying Nb0.91Ti0.09Se2 mass fraction. The phase composition of Cu-based composites was identified by X-ray diffraction, and the morphology of NbSe2/Nb0.91Ti0.09Se2 and the worn surface of composites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. In addition, the tribological properties of composites were appraised using a ball-on-disk multi-functional tribometer. The data of friction coefficient and resistivity were analyzed and the corresponding conclusion was drawn. Findings In comparison with the pure copper, Cu-based composites containing Nb0.91Ti0.09Se2/NbSe2 had a lower friction coefficient, illustrating the Nb0.91Ti0.09Se2 with nano-size particles prepared in this work is a perfect choice for the fabrication of excellent electrical contact composites. Compared to composites with NbSe2, composites containing Nb0.91Ti0.09Se2 have better tribological and electrical properties. Research limitations/implications Because of the use of thermal solid state reaction method, the size of NbSe2 and Nb0.91Ti0.09Se2 is relatively large. Therefore, the fabrication of finer particles of Nb0.91Ti0.09Se2 is encouraged. Originality/value In this paper, the authors discuss the tribological and electrical properties of Cu-based composites, and the value of optimum obtained as Nb0.91Ti0.09Se2 content is 15 Wt.%.

NdSr 2 RuCu 2 O x material has been prepared as polycrystalline powder by solid state reaction. The compound has been investigated by synchrotron x-ray powder diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The experimental results show that the average crystal structure is a disordered cubic perovskite with Nd and Sr cations occupying the same site and the same substitution is found for Cu and Ru atoms. A comparison between the crystal structure and morphology of this compound and the superconducting tetragonal GdSr 2 RuCu 2 O 8 is also discussed.

The paper is focused on one of the most important component of Portland clinker-on the tricalcium silicate. The study reported in this article is focuses on the changes in crystallite size of synthetic tricalcium silicate obtained using solid state reaction method. Crystallite size changes are monitored during the grinding in three types of laboratory mills in two different conditions. Changing in crystallite size at various grinding time up to 120 minutes are studied with the aid of X-ray diffraction and using the Scherrer equation. It has been found that the most efficient laboratory mill in terms of speed and fineness of the material was the planetary mill.

This study has been successfully synthesized Nickel (Ni)-doped olivine-type LiNixFe1-xPO4/C with x= 0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03 as cathode materials, using the solid-state reaction method was in order to investigate the effect on the structure and morphology. The precursor material of ion Ferro (Fe) is used natural material from ironstone of Tanah Laut Kalimantan Indonesian which combined with proanalis materials. The X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) patterns on the structure magnetite iron have shown that single phase of Fe3O4 and the patterns of structure LiNixFe1-xPO4/C indicated that doping Ni2+ have shown the orthorhombic structure with space group Pnma for all LiNixFe1-xPO4/C samples. Base on Rietveld method by Rietica software, the formation of phase resulted in olivine structure except at the concentration x = 0.02 and 0.03 have a second phase, that is nasicon structure with a smaller percentage than olivine structure. The general condition, coating carbon on LiNixFe1-xPO4/C particles by solid state reaction can be perfect which demonstrate the homogeneous existence of carbon on the surface of LiNixFe1-xPO4/C particles shown by images Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The increased doping of Ni ions causing the Fe ions to decrease base on Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS) observations.

The high temperature superconductor’s compounds are one of the hot spot field of science, due to their applications in industries. Hg0.8Sb0.2Ba2Ca2Cu3O8+δ and Hg0.8Sb0.2Ba2Ca1Cu2O6+δ, were manufactured using a doable-step of solid state reaction method. The samples were sintered at 800 ° C. The transition temperatures Tc are found from electrically resistively by using four probe techniques. The resistivity become zero when the transition temperature Tc(offset) have 131 and 119 K, and the onset temperature Tc(onset) have 139 K for Hg0.8Sb0.2Ba2Ca2Cu3O8+δ and 132 K for Hg0.8Sb0.2Ba2Ca1Cu2O6+δ. Analysis of X-ray diffraction showed a tetragonal structure with lattice parameters changes for all samples.

Aimed at designing an efficient visible light active photocatalyst and suppressing the self-corrosion tendency of CdS nanoparticles, a novel composite consisting of CdS nanoparticles and exfoliated two-dimensional (2D) TiO2 nanosheets was successfully fabricated using a simple self-assembly process. The prepared samples were characterized using various techniques including x-ray diffraction, ultraviolet–visible absorption spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. It was found that the exfoliated 2D nanosheets played an important role as an ultrathin coating to suppress the photocorrosion of CdS nanoparticles, evidenced by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometer analysis. The resultant CdS/TiO2 composites exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity in the oxidation of Rhodamine B in water under visible light irradiation (λ > 420 nm).

ABSTRACTIn this paper, we will present a study of the thermal reaction of AsjOs with GaAs at temperatures below 550°C using monochromatic X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (MXPS). A solid-state interface reaction of 4GaAs + 3AS2O5 → 2Ga2O3 + 3AS2O3 + 4As, which includes the usual native oxide thermal reaction: 2GaAs + AS2O3 → Ga2O3 + 4As, as well as a decomposition reaction AS2O5 → AS2O3 + O2 is responsible for the thermal reaction in this temperature range.

The multiferroic ( Bi 0.95 RE 0.05)( Fe 0.95 Mn 0.05) O 3 (where RE = Pr , Tb and Dy ) has been synthesized using solid-state reaction technique. Effects of Pr , Tb and Dy substitution on the structure, electrical and ferroelectric properties of ( Bi 0.95 RE 0.05)( Fe 0.95 Mn 0.05) O 3 samples have been studied by performing X-ray diffraction, dielectric measurements and magnetic measurements. The crystal structure of the ceramic samples have a monoclinic phase. The vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) measurement shows a significant change in the magnetic properties of Pr -, Tb - and Dy -doped ( Bi 0.95 RE 0.05)( Fe 0.95 Mn 0.05) O 3. It is seen that coercive field (Hc) and remanent magnetization (Mr) increases for Pr but decreases for Dy and Tb .
