Mobile robotic telepresence (MRP) systems incorporate video conferencing equipment onto mobile robot devices which can be steered from remote locations. These systems, which are primarily used in the context of promoting social interaction between people, are becoming increasingly popular within certain application domains such as health care environments, independent living for the elderly, and office environments. In this paper, an overview of the various systems, application areas, and challenges found in the literature concerning mobile robotic telepresence is provided. The survey also proposes a set terminology for the field as there is currently a lack of standard terms for the different concepts related to MRP systems. Further, this paper provides an outlook on the various research directions for developing and enhancing mobile robotic telepresence systems per se, as well as evaluating the interaction in laboratory and field settings. Finally, the survey outlines a number of design implications for the future of mobile robotic telepresence systems for social interaction.

The philosophy of independent living of the elderly is so clear and concrete that its basic principles only need to be followed and adjusted to the modern way of life, especially on insisting on the use of information technologies that can be included in the implementation of home care with the social support of the family and the community. Modern approach to health care must not allow the elderly to be passive recipients of health care, but people who can control their lives with the application of information technology. The main goal of the application of information technologies is the acquisition of knowledge in the field of informatics and assistive technologies in order to contribute to a greater degree of participation of the elderly in daily activities, health care, social activities, communication, exchange of experiences related to diseases and entertainment and recreation. In addition to health care, information technology also ensures overcoming the increasingly pronounced social isolation of the elderly.

Integrative geriatrics is the new field of medicine that advocates for whole-person, patient-centered, primarily nonpharmacological approaches to the medical care of the elderly. Most current geriatric practices overprescribe medications and procedures and underuse nonpharmacological low-cost and high-touch methods. Integrative geriatrics interventions such as nutrition, movement therapies, and mind–body and spirituality approaches allow patients to follow a different path to their health care. This book provides detailed evidence-based information for all health care providers and advocates who work with the geriatric population. Directed toward providers in outpatient settings and to those who work in nursing homes, assisted living, independent living, and senior community centers, it also provides valuable information for leaders and politicians who are setting up policies and procedures for the care of the elderly who are looking for safer, less costly, and more patient-centered approaches.

When analyzing the historical and medical aspects of the organization of medical and social services for the elderly and senile people in Russia in the late XX — early XXI centuries not only obvious achievements in this sphere, but also a number of problems requiring solution were identified. The primary role in the delivery of medical care to geriatric patients is assigned to the primary health care sector. However the work of the geriatric service in the format of a single system for the provision of long-term medical and social care based on the continuity of patient management between differ- ent levels of the health care system and between the health and social protection services is not well organized. There is no clear coordination and interaction between health care and social protection institutions, functions of which include providing care to older citizens, and it significantly reduces the effectiveness of the provision of both medical and social services.

Nowadays, Thailand is stepping into an aging society. This research purposes developing the intelligence walking stick for the elderly in terms of the health care system by applied the IoT devices and biometric sensors in a real-time system. The heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and temperature were measured at the finger of the elderly that holding the intelligence walking stick. All data can monitor and display on mobile devices. The intelligence walking stick system was evaluated by twenty users who are five experts and fifteen elderly in Ratchaburi province. As a result of the mean value at 4.88 and 4.85 by experts and elderly, respectively. It could be said that the development of intelligence walking stick by using IoT can help and improve the daily living of the elderly at the highest level.
