Background. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a highly infectious disease with a potential for healthcare workers (HCWs) getting infected due to inadequate protection while attending to patients. Effective use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is key to mitigating the spread of SARS-CoV-2 infection in healthcare settings. Hence, there is a need to understand HCWs’ use of PPE in resource-limited settings and how closely the currently recommended guidelines for PPE are followed. This study assessed the HCWs’ knowledge about, attitudes towards, beliefs on, and use of PPE to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection in a resource-limited setting. Methods. This cross-sectional study was conducted in April 2020 in Southwest and Northwest Nigeria. The selection of participants was performed via the snowball sampling technique using a 33-item, web-based, self-administered questionnaire via a social media network. We obtained relevant sociodemographic data and information on participants’ occupations and knowledge about, attitudes towards, beliefs on, and use of PPE. We analysed the data using SPSS version 23.0 for Windows (IBM, Armonk, New York, USA). A p values <0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results. A total of 290 subjects responded to the questionnaire, and 18 (6.2%) were excluded because of incomplete data. The mean age of the respondents was 32.3 ± 9.9 years. There were 116 males (42.6%). The majority of the respondents were medical doctors (114, 41.9%), followed by nurses and clinical students. Of the 272 respondents in this survey, only 70 (25.7%) had adequate knowledge about PPE. Of the respondents who presumed they had adequate knowledge about donning and doffing PPE, 94 (56%) were incorrect. The predictors of good knowledge were ages younger than 45 years (p=0.046) and practice location (p=0.009). Conclusion. This study showed that HCWs’ knowledge about, attitudes towards, and beliefs on PPE and their PPE skill in practice in Nigeria were remarkably poor. There is an urgent need for nationwide practical training on PPE use to curtail the spread of SARS-CoV-2 infection among HCWs.

ABSTRAKPetugas TPS atau petugas pengangkut sampah merupakan pekerja yang setiap harinya mengambil atau mengangkut sampah dari rumah ke rumah untuk dikumpulkan kemudian di pilah-pilah di TPS dan akan dikirimkan ke tempat pembuangan yang lebih besar yaitu Tempat Pembuangan Akhir (TPA). Sepanjang hari petugas TPS bekerja dengan sampah sehingga membuat mereka mempunyai risiko tinggi terkena penularan penyakit kulit, baik yang memiliki efek secara langsung maupun tidak langsung. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengurangi resiko terkena penularan penyakit kulit adalah dengan menggunakan Alat Pelindung Diri (APD) Kurangnya kesadaran, kepatuhan dan informasi tentang risiko bahaya, sebagian dari mereka tidak tidak menggunakan APD. APD yang kurang lengkap dapat memungkinkan kontak langsung dengan sampah sehingga mengakibatkan terjadinya gangguan kesehatan salah satunya yaitu menyebabkan penularan penyakit kulit. Jenis penelitian ini adalah analitik korelasi dengan pendekatan cross-sectional. Data diuji dengan Spearman rank test. Pengumpulan data dengan cara observasi, wawancara dan kuesioner. Peneliti menggunakan metode total sampling. Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan p=0.00 (α<0.05) dan r=0.761, sehingga terdapat hubungan yang kuat antara perilaku pemakaian APD dengan penularan penyakit kulit pada petugas TPS. Oleh sebab itu, diharapkan program pemerintah dan petugas kesehatan dapat mendukung penggunaan APD sebagai upaya preventif terhadap penularan penyakit kulit pada petugas TPS.Kata kunci : sampah, petugas TPS, alat pelindung diri (APD), penularan penyakit kulitABSTRACTA garbage worker who take or hauling garbage from house to house and collected and then sorted into the TPS every day and will be sent to landfills larger is the final disposal (landfill). One effort that can be done to reduce the risk of skin disease transmission is to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Lack of awareness, compliance and information about the risk of harm, some of them not using PPE. APD incomplete can allow direct contact with garbage, which causes health problems one of which causes the skin disease transmission. This type of research is an analytic correlation with cross-sectional approach. Data were tested with Spearman rank test. The collection of data by means of observation, interviews and questionnaires. Researchers used total sampling method. Statistical analysis showed p = 0.00 (α <0,05) and r = 0.761, so there is a strong relationship between the behavior of the use of PPE with the skin disease transmission at the polling station officials. Therefore, it is expected the government programs and health workers can support the use of PPE as a preventative measure against the spread of skin disease at polling station officials.Keywords: garbage, garbage workers, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), skin disease transmission. Background: During the Covid-19 outbreak, health workers, especially nurses, are vulnerable to potential psychological symptoms such as anxiety, which can prevent nurses from carrying out their role as caregivers in health services (Lai et al., 2020; Shanafelt et al., 2020). Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that can influence the anxiety of nurses in playing the role of caregiver during the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with a population of all nurses who met the inclusion criteria as much as 105 nurses. The research sample was selected through stratified random sampling and obtained 84 nurses. This research was conducted at RSI Jemursari Surabaya from June until September 2020. The research instruments used in this study were the demographic observation sheet, knowledge questionnaire, and the Hamilton Anxiety Rank Scale (HARS). Data analysis used Pearson chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression. Results: The results of the Pearson Chi-square test showed that of all the factors studied, only age (p = 0.004), availability of personal protective equipment (p = 0.002), and knowledge (p = 0.017) influenced nurses' anxiety. The results of the analysis using multivariate logistic regression test showed that the factor that most influenced nurses' anxiety was the availability of personal protective equipment (p = 0.001; OR = -3.062). Conclusion: Younger nurses, inadequate personal protective equipment, and less knowledgeable nurses were at high risk for more severe anxiety. Regular observation of the psychological condition of nurses and the fulfillment of the need for personal protective equipment is needed to prevent increased anxiety in nurses.   Keywords: Nurse, anxiety, Covid-19, caregiver.

This study aimed to investigate the correlation between the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the status of Soil-Transmitted Helminths infection in the workers of Kaliputih plantation in Jember Regency. The research method applied was Analytic observational with a Cross-sectional approach. The population, as well as the sample, were all workers of Kaliputih Plantation, Sumber Bulus Village, Ledokombo District, Jember Regency, by the total of 63 people. The sampling technique was the Total sampling. Laboratory analysis on faecal samples of respondents were conducted at the Parasitology Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jember. Furthermore, the research data were analyzed using Chi-Square analysis or Fisher’s Exact Test. The results demonstrated that the prevalence of STH infection in Kaliputih Plantation workers was 25%. This figure was supported by the good awareness of the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) of workers (91.67%). In addition, the Soil-Transmitted Helminths species that infested the plantation workers were Ascaris lumbricoides, found in 6 people (16.67%), and Hookworm, found in 3 people (8.33%). Finally, the result of Chi-square analysis showed a significance value of <0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of PPE in Kaliputih plantation workers had a significant correlation with the STH infection status. Skin disease is a disease related to the environment and human behavior. The incidence of skin diseases has increased because the cause of the disease is alive and breeding in landfills and poor waste collection. This is based on the environment of scavenger workers who have materials that can cause various kinds of skin disorders. Based on the results of preliminary surveys that have been carried out, the number of scavengers in the final disposal site of Kelurahan Falls is 75 people with different age characteristics, different levels of education and length of work. The problem at TPA Falls is work behavior on waste pickers. From observations from the field observations found that the scavenger working conditions in the garbage dump in the Kelurahan Falls generally suffer from skin disorders due to personal hygiene (skin, foot, nail and hand hygiene) which are not given enough attention and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that is incorrect and incomplete. The purpose of this study was to determine knowledge, attitudes, actions to use personal protective equipment (PPE) and habits of personal hygiene, length of work, as well as the distance of the house from the landfill with complaints of skin disorders in the garbage scavengers in the TPA Kelurahan Falls. The research method is cross sectional which was analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The research location was conducted at TPA Kelurahan Terjun, Medan Marelan Subdistrict and was conducted in February and March 2019. 75 respondents were taken using simple random sampling technique. The research instrument was in the form of a questionnaire. The results of the study are variables that are not related to complaints of skin disorders that is length of work (P value = 0.617), while variables related to complaints of skin disorders are distance of residents' homes (P value = 0,000), non-compliance using PPE (P value = 0,000) do personal hygiene (P value = 0,000). Suggestions for scavengers to behave more clean and healthy life by maintaining health, personal hygiene and the environment, and using personal protection that must be worn at work.

Background: In the era of the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is very important to reduce the risk of transmitting infectious diseases to medical personnel because it can prevent contact with pathogens. This shows that midwives as first-line managers of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum cases must be vigilant by wearing complete Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) so that there is no transmission of the virus from the patient to the midwife. Objective: To determine the analysis of midwives' practices in using PPE when assisting labor during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Banten Regional General Hospital 2020-2021. Methodology: A quantitative analytic study using a cross sectional approach. The sample in this study was 102 respondents with purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using SPSS with Chi Square, which previously tested the validity and reliability. Results: The use of PPE in midwives in Banten Hospital obtained an average value of 84.3. Based on age, the average value was 53.9. Based on the length of service, the average score was 96.1. Based on education, the average score is 55.9. The results of the chi-square test showed that all independent variables had no relationship with the use of PPE including knowledge (p = 0.323), attitude (p = 0.665), availability of PPE (p = 0.740), and supervision (p = 0.603). Conclusions and Suggestions: The use of PPE in midwives has no relationship with knowledge, attitudes, availability of PPE and supervision. There is a need for socialization about the importance of using PPE to midwives in order to maintain the quality of expected care services. There is a need for an K3 unit in Banten Hospital which is one of the authorities. There needs to be special attention from the Hospital Management regarding the supervision of the use of PPE in midwives.

ABSTRAKTenaga kesehatan dalam melaksanakan tugas sebagai garda terdepan penanganan, pencegahan, dan perawatan pasien Covid-19 mengalami kecemasan karena disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor, salah satunya adalah ketersediaan alat pelindung diri. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang paling mempengaruhi kecemasan petugas kesehatan dalam pencegahan Covid-19. Penelitian kuantitatif mengunakan metode obsevasional analitik dengan rancangan cross-sectional ini dilakukan di tiga Rumah Sakit dan  sembilan Layanan Kesehatan pada bulan April 2020. Penentuan teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan cluster random sampling dengan jumlah sampel 115 reponden. Uji pearson chi-square dilakukan untuk menilai hubungan antara kecemasan dan usia, jenis kelamin, status keluarga, kejujuran pasien, ketersediaan peralatan perlindungan pribadi, dan pengetahuan. Masing-masing variabel independen dievaluasi menggunakan analisis uji regresi logistik untuk menetukan variabel yang paling berpengaruh. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh usia (p=0.024); status keluarga (p=0.022); kejujuran pasien (p=0.034); ketersediaan alat pelindung diri (0.014); pengetahuan (p=0.030) terhadap kecemasan petugas. Dari hasil uji regresi logistik menunjukkan variabel ketersediaan alat pelindung diri yang paling berpengaruh terhadap kecemasan (r=0.517;CI=1.34-8.06), yang artinya ketersediaan alat pelindung memilliki pengaruh 51.7% terhadap kecemasan petugas kesehatan dalam upaya pencegahan Covid-19. Oleh karena itu, pemerintah harus memberikan perhatian yang sangat besar kepada petugas kesehatan yang berada digarda terdepan dalam pencegahan covid-19 terkait masalah kebutuhan alat pelindung diri sesuai protokol dari WHO. ABSTRACTHealth workers in carrying out their duties as the frontliners in handling, preventing and caring of COVID-19 patients experience anxiety caused by several factors and one of them is the availability of personal protective equipment (PPE). This study is conducted to determine some factors that mostly influence the anxiety of health workers in preventing of Covid-19. Quantitative research is used by analytical obsevational methods with cross-sectional design and is conducted in three Hospitals and nine Health Services in April 2020. Sampling techniques used cluster random sampling (n=115. Person          chi-square tests are conducted to assess the relationship between anxiety and age, family status, availability of personal protective equipment, and knowledge. Independent variable is evaluated using logistic regression test analysis to determine the most influential variable. The results of this study indicate that there are influences of age (p-value=0.024); family status (p-value=0.022); patient honesty (p-value=0.034); the availability of personal protective equipment (p-value=0.014); knowledge (p-value=0.030) on staffs’ anxiety. The logistic regression test result clarifies that the availability of personal protective equipment is the most influential on anxiety (r=0.517; CI=1.34-8.06), which means the availability of protective devices has a 51.7% influence on the anxiety of health workers in preventing of Covid-19. Therefore, the government must pay great attention to health workers who are at the frontliners in preventing covid-19 related to the problem of personal needs for personal protective equipment based on the protocol from WHO.

The COVID 19 pandemic is a case which continues to be felt by the community especially health workers. Data shows an increase in cases of health workers, especially nurses as the frontliner, this is due to one of them the use of protective equipment. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the knowledge of the use of personal protective equipment with the Puskesmas Nurses self-efficacy on the management of COVID 19. The method used in this study was analytic descriptive with a cross-sectional approach and used 146 samples surveyed online for 1 month based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The variable knowledge of the use of personal protective equipment was measured using a questionnaire developed by researchers based on the personal protective equipment guidelines by the Covid Task Force 19, (2020); Ministry of Health, (2020), while the variable of self-efficacy uses the General Self-efficacy Scale questionnaire by Schwarzer and Jerusalem (2010). The results showed a significant relationship between the knowledge of the use of personal protective equipment with the efficacy of the Puskesmas Nurse on the management of COVID 19 p-value 0.016. OR 2,780 which means nurses who have knowledge using good personal protective equipment have an opportunity of 2,780 times to have a good self-efficacy (sure) to the management of COVID 19 compared to nurses who have less knowledge. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop human resources including nurses conducted by the government as policy makers. Through this research, the researcher proposes that further researchers can develop this research by linking other factors that can influence nurse self-efficacy.

Background: The results of several projects on the effects of personal protective equipment (PPE) have been published since the outbreak of COVID-19. It is known that wearing PPE, and specifically face masks, has physcial consequences like headache and pain, which can increase stress among nursing staff. However, none of these studies placed a focus on PPE and nursing staff, although nurses are the only members of the health care profession who are at the patients bedsides 24/7, and PPE is the only way to protect them from a COVID-19 infection. Therefore, this study was carried out to investigate the association between the use of PPE and stress among nursing staff during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods An online, cross-sectional survey was conducted, which we distributed using snowball sampling techniques. The questionnaire was developed on the basis of (inter-)national recommendations as well as the international literature. We used the perceived level of stress scale to measure the nursing staff members stress levels. Results We included data collected from 2600 nurses in this analysis. Nearly all nursing staff wore face masks. We showed that more than two-thirds of the nurses had moderate to high levels of stress. No statistically significant association between the use of PPE and stress was detected. However, we show a statistically significant association between the duration of mask usage and stress. Discussion and conclusions Nearly all participating nurses wore face masks or FFP masks to protect themselves from COVID-19 infection. This observation might indicate that Austrian nurses display a high level of compliance with national and international regulations and play a key role in such pandemics. Our results also show that increased mask-wearing time led to increased stress levels. These results suggest that (inter-)national regulations on how and when to use PPE should include a maximum duration of time for wearing each type of mask. Such regulations could help to prevent work-related stress, particularly in the case of future epidemics, and avoid burnout among nursing staff or even nurses leaving their jobs. The consequences of both of these negative outcomes should be considered in light of the predicted expected future shortage of health care workers.

Mankind is experiencing another remarkable involvement in the quickly spreading COVID-19 pandemic. Besides, the sickness fundamentally influences regular daily existence, bringing about a financial emergency. Moreover, the highest risk of getting COVID-19 is for the front line Healthcare workers (HWs). Therefore, utmost importance to evaluate their knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding COVID -19 is needed. An online Cross-sectional research design was utilized for the study. An aggregate of 100 paramedic health workers (Nurses, Pharmacist, Lab technician and Allied health technicians) were chosen using a convenient sampling technique. Data were gathered among eligible healthcare workers through an online survey by electronic distribution of self-administered questionnaire developed by the investigator. The results depict that 80% had adequate knowledge, 84.6% had a positive attitude towards COVID-19 and 88% of participants had appropriate practice related to COVID-19.  There was a positive relationship noted among knowledge and attitude(r=0.114),attitude-practice(r=0.283) and knowledge-practice(r=0.177) at p<.05 and p<.01level respectively.The outcome found that there is no huge affiliation found between selected demographic variables such as age, residence, marital status and source of information but gender and years of experience was significantly associated with knowledge and practice (p=5.18) at p<0.01 and profession was significantly associated with attitude (p=10.92) at p<0.001.

Objective: To determine the impact of a single tutorial session on the technique of donning and doffing the personal protective equipment by health care workers. Study Design: Cross-sectional comparative study. Place and Duration of Study: CMH Landi Kotal Cantt, from 1st March 2020 to 10th June 2020. Patients and Methods: The study was conducted on 62 health workers, working in CMH Landi Kotal Cantt. They were asked to demonstrate donning and doffing surgical masks, gowns and gloves and the steps were evaluated as per a standardized checklist. Then, the participants were given a single tutorial of the donning and doffing technique of personal protective equipment. They were asked to demonstrate their technique of personal protective equipment use one week, one month and three months after the tutorial. Any improvement was recorded in the checklist used earlier. Results: The correct donning and doffing technique of personal protective equipment were demonstrated by 22 and 14 participants respectively before the tutorial. When evaluated one week after the tutorial, this number increased to 48 and 38 respectively, showing significant improvement (p<0.05). The technique of personal protective equipment use deteriorated significantly one month of the tutorial and deteriorated further after three months (p<0.05). The most common fault while donning and doffing the equipment was the incorrect donning sequence, and self-contamination while taking off the gloves, respectively. Conclusion: A single tutorial session results in significant improvement in the technique of using personal protective equipment by health care workers but the effect is lost over time.
