The shield pressure cannot always be used to represent the upper load of longwall panels, since its value is steady or even decreases by the yielding action. However, the leg pressure increment of the shield (LPIS) at the initial stage is not influenced by yielding and could therefore be an important factor to judge the state of overlying loads. In this study, a mechanical model is established to analyze the relationship between the overlying loads of the main roof and LPIS after cutting. There is a linear positive correlation between leg pressure increment and overlying loads and a second-order relationship between leg pressure increment and length of main roof cantilever in the proposed model. Therefore, it can be used to determine the magnitude of roof weighting strength in different periods as well as the length of the main roof cantilever in a period. Finally, the mine pressure difference between the period of fully mechanized mining and the period of fully mechanized caving mining in the MinDong-1 coal mine serves to verify the rationality of the proposed model.

Face spall in moderate strength coal seam occurs less frequently but can be more severe and takes a longer time to remedy compared to face spall in the weak coal seam. This paper presents a field investigation of face spall in moderate strength coal seam at Face I-8-1, Vang Danh coal mine, Quang Ninh coal field, Vietnam. The leg pressure of shield support and face condition were monitored within two months, and on-site remedial measures to the spall were discussed. The monitoring results confirmed that the front and rear leg pressure profiles are consistent with world-wide observations. The coal face condition in actual operation was found to be more stable than that in project design. The face spall occurred along face dip direction, but mostly in small extent of less than 0.5 m deep and during transitional time between working shifts. Proper ground control near gate ends by using higher capacity shield supports and supplemental hydraulic props was identified to improve face stability in the area. On-site remedial measures proved their efficiency in small to moderate face spall extent. For main roof rupture-associated face spall, technical measures have been applied but they need further investigation to clarify their effectiveness. The paper’s results can be consulted to improve longwall face stability control in similar coal seam conditions.

The filling belt of gob-side entry retaining with the character of soft rock composite roof,deforms violently,affected by the fracture and rotation of the main roof,and is prone to instability.This essay,considering characteristecs of coal mine pressure behavior on -790m 1311 (1) working face ventilation roadway at DingJi coal mine in HuaiNan,puts forward structural mech -anics model of the key block of gob-side entry retaining,which is used to forecast the position of the fracture line of the main roof, and analyze the roof subsidence at the side of the filling belt;It applies FLAC and UDEC to simulate distribution of plastic zones of surrounding rock of gob-side entry retaining,and stress variation law of the immediate roof and the main roof along coal seam inclination.The results show that:stress concentration factor of the immediate roof on the filling belt is about 1.6,first decreasing and then increasing with increasing width of the filling belt,which indicates that reasonable width of the filling belt is 3.0 m in accordance with the requirement of economic security requirment. The filling belt has significantly wide distribution of the plastic zones,with its four corners obviously plasticized,and overlying strata above the filling belt at side of goaf suffering upward plasticization,which is the result of rotation of the main roof; Deform- ation instability of filling belt is mainly caused by fracture rotation of the main roof;Finally, the measures to reduce the instability of gob-side entry retaining with the character of soft rock comp- osite roof are put forward.

Abstract The present study was envisaged to explore the relationship between the stress distribution law of the roof in the unsupported roof area and the unsupported roof distance. In this pursuit, a mechanical model of the immediate roof rock beam under the condition of the thick and hard main roof was established, and the functional relationship between the tensile stress of the roof in the unsupported area and the unsupported roof distance was calculated. Combined with the geological conditions of the 150802 roadway in Liuzhuang Coal Mine, the distribution law of the tensile stress of the roof support end in the unsupported roof area under different supporting forces and the distribution characteristics of the roof stress in the vertical direction were analyzed. From the relationship between the tensile stress and the tensile strength of the roof, the maximum unsupported roof distance during the roadway driving was determined. In order to select the reasonable unsupported roof distance, considering the surplus safety factor of the roof in the unsupported roof area during roadway driving, the unsupported roof distance of the 150802 roadway was found to be 2.0 m finally, and the field application was conducted. Based on the calculation results of this mechanical model, a reasonable unsupported roof distance was selected during the driving, the comprehensive driving speed of the coal roadway in the working face was improved, and the monthly footage was more than 400 m.

This paper focuses on explaining how individuals set goals on multiple performance episodes, in the context of performance feedback comparing their performance on each episode with their respective goal. The proposed model was tested through a longitudinal study of 493 university students’ actual goals and performance on business school exams. Results of a structural equation model supported the proposed conceptual model in which self-efficacy and emotional reactions to feedback mediate the relationship between feedback and subsequent goals. In addition, as expected, participants’ standing on a dispositional measure of behavioral inhibition influenced the strength of their emotional reactions to negative feedback.

The use of friction pendulum devices has recently attracted the attention of both academic and professional engineers for the protection of structures in seismic areas. Although the effectiveness of these has been shown by the experimental testing carried out worldwide, many aspects still need to be investigated for further improvement and optimisation. A thermo-mechanical model of a double friction pendulum device (based on the most recent modelling techniques adopted in multibody dynamics) is presented in this paper. The proposed model is based on the observation that sliding may not take place as ideally as is indicated in the literature. On the contrary, the fulfilment of geometrical compatibility between the constitutive bodies (during an earthquake) suggests a very peculiar dynamic behaviour composed of a continuous alternation of sticking and slipping phases. The thermo-mechanical model of a double friction pendulum device (based on the most recent modelling techniques adopted in multibody dynamics) is presented. The process of fine-tuning of the selected modelling strategy (available to date) is also described.

A modeling of a turbo air compressor system (TACS), with a multi-level inverter for driving variable speed, combining an electrical model of an electric motor drive system (EMDS) and a mechanical model of a turbo air compressor, is essential to accurately analyze dynamics characteristics. Compared to the mechanical model, the electrical model has a short sampling time due to the high frequency switching operation of the numerous power semiconductors inside the multi-level inverter. This causes the problem of increased computational time for dynamic characteristics analysis of TACS. To solve this problem, the conventional model of the multi-level inverter has been proposed to simplify the switching operation of the power semiconductors, however it has low accuracy because it does not consider pulse width modulation (PWM) operation. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved modeling of the multi-level inverter for TACS to reduce computational time and improve the accuracy of electrical and mechanical responses. In order to verify the reduced computational time of the proposed model, the conventional model using the simplified model is compared and analyzed using an electronic circuit simulation software PSIM. Then, the improved accuracy of the proposed model is verified by comparison with the experimental results.

Neural machine translation (NMT) is one of the text generation tasks which has achieved significant improvement with the rise of deep neural networks. However, language-specific problems such as handling the translation of honorifics received little attention. In this paper, we propose a context-aware NMT to promote translation improvements of Korean honorifics. By exploiting the information such as the relationship between speakers from the surrounding sentences, our proposed model effectively manages the use of honorific expressions. Specifically, we utilize a novel encoder architecture that can represent the contextual information of the given input sentences. Furthermore, a context-aware post-editing (CAPE) technique is adopted to refine a set of inconsistent sentence-level honorific translations. To demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method, honorific-labeled test data is required. Thus, we also design a heuristic that labels Korean sentences to distinguish between honorific and non-honorific styles. Experimental results show that our proposed method outperforms sentence-level NMT baselines both in overall translation quality and honorific translations.

Relation extraction is a vital task in natural language processing. It aims to identify the relationship between two specified entities in a sentence. Besides information contained in the sentence, additional information about the entities is verified to be helpful in relation extraction. Additional information such as entity type getting by NER (Named Entity Recognition) and description provided by knowledge base both have their limitations. Nevertheless, there exists another way to provide additional information which can overcome these limitations in Chinese relation extraction. As Chinese characters usually have explicit meanings and can carry more information than English letters. We suggest that characters that constitute the entities can provide additional information which is helpful for the relation extraction task, especially in large scale datasets. This assumption has never been verified before. The main obstacle is the lack of large-scale Chinese relation datasets. In this paper, first, we generate a large scale Chinese relation extraction dataset based on a Chinese encyclopedia. Second, we propose an attention-based model using the characters that compose the entities. The result on the generated dataset shows that these characters can provide useful information for the Chinese relation extraction task. By using this information, the attention mechanism we used can recognize the crucial part of the sentence that can express the relation. The proposed model outperforms other baseline models on our Chinese relation extraction dataset.

Purpose – This article aims to test the relationship between expected attractiveness-satisfaction-loyalty for international adventure tourists visiting Tanzania. The proposed model is based on travel consumer behavior theoretical constructs extracted from the literature. Design/methodology/approach – This article aims to test the relationship between expected attractiveness-satisfaction-loyalty for international adventure tourists visiting Tanzania. The proposed model is based on travel consumer behavior theoretical constructs extracted from the literature. Findings – The findings for overall model differed from the moderating factors of high risk, low risk, first-time visit and repeat visit. Also, the results are interesting when satisfaction is tested as a mediator. Practical implications – Practitioners could consider the fact that repeat visits may change tourists’ perceptions toward destination and may even increase their inclination to take on risks. This may impact innovation of consumer products in tourism. Also, policy makers could benefit on how loyalty programs can be developed to increase performance. Originality/value – The study offers specific strategic recommendations toward different groups of tourists (i.e. first-time, repeat visitors, risk averse, risk seeking) and proposes logic for setting up a loyalty program as a long-term strategy for success.

The last decade has witnessed a shift from a focus on the value created by a single firm and product to an examination of the value created by networks of firms (or product ecosystems) in which assets are comingled with external entities. The authors examine these market-based assets in the context of network markets and propose an Integrated Networks model in which three types of networks—user, complements, and producer—add value or enhance the attractiveness of the associated focal product. The authors empirically test the proposed model by surveying information technology professionals on their resource allocation decisions regarding the Unix and Windows NT operating systems. The findings suggest that the value added by these three networks is significantly and positively associated with resources allocated by business customers to competing products. The results also show that the three networks mediate the relationship between stand-alone product performance and resource allocation.
