An effective systemic approach to task will lead to efficient communication and resource sharing within a network. This has become imperative as it aids alternative delivery. With communication properly etched into the fabrics of today’s society via effective integration of informatics and communication technology, the constant upgrades to existing network infrastructure are only a start to meeting with the ever-increasing challenges. There are various criteria responsible for network performance, scalability, and resilience. To ensure best practices, we analyze the network and select parameters required to improve performance irrespective of bottlenecks, potentials, and expansion capabilities of the network infrastructure. Study compute feats via Bayesian network design alongside upgrades implementation to result in a prototype design, capable of addressing users need(s). Thus, to ensure functionality, the experimental network uses known simulation kits such as riverbed modeler edition 17.5 and cisco packet tracer 6.0.1-to conduct standardized tests such as throughput test, application response-time test, and availability test.

Software defined network (SDN) controller selection in SDN is a key challenge to the network administrator. In SDN, control plane is an isolated process and operate on control layer. The controller provides a universal view of the entire network and support applications and services. The three focused parameters for controller selection are productivity, campus network and open source. In SDN, it is vital to have a good device for the efficient processing of all requests made by the switch and for good behavior of the network. For selecting best controller for the specified parameters, decision logic has to be developed that allow us to do comparison of the available controllers. Therefore, in this research we have suggested a methodology that uses analytic-hierarchy-process (AHP) to find a best controller. The approach has been studied and verified for a big organization network setup of Al-Majmaah University, Saudi Arabia. The approach is found to be more effective and increase the network performance significantly.

Purpose This paper aims to apply a new approach for resource sharing and efficiency estimation of subunits in the presence of non-discretionary factors and partial impacts among inputs and outputs in the data envelopment analysis (DEA) framework. Design/methodology/approach First, inspired by the Imanirad et al.’s model (2013), the authors consider that each decision-making unit (DMU) may consist of several subunits, that each of which can be affected by non-discretionary inputs. After that, the Banker and Morey’s model (1996) is used for modeling non-discretionary factors. For measuring performance of several subunits, which can be considered as DMUs, the aggregate efficiency is suggested. At last, the overall efficiency is computed and compared with each other. Findings One of the important features of proposed model is that each output in this model applies discretionary input according to its need; therefore, the result of this study will make it easier for the managers to make better decisions. Also, it indicates that significant predictions of the development of the overall efficiency of DMUs can be based on observing the development level of subunits because of the influence of non-discretionary input. Therefore, the proposed model provides a more reasonable and encompassing measure of performance in participating non-discretionary and discretionary inputs to better efficiency. An application of the proposed model for gaining efficiency of 17 road patrols is provided. Research limitations/implications More non-discretionary and discretionary inputs can be taken into consideration for a better analysis. This study provides us with a framework for performance measures along with useful managerial insights. Focusing upon the right scope of operations may help out the management in improving their overall efficiency and performance. In the recent highway maintenance management systems, the environmental differences exist among patrols and other geotechnical services under the climate diverse. Further, in some cases, there might exist more than one non-discretionary factor that can have different effects on the subunits’ performance. Practical implications The purpose of this paper was to measure the performance of a set of the roadway maintenance crews and to analyze the impact of non-discretionary inputs on the efficiency of the roadway maintenance. The application of the proposed model, on the one hand, showed that each output in this model uses discretionary input according to its requirement, and on the other hand, the result showed that meaningful predictions of the development of the overall efficiency of DMUs can be based on observing the development level of subunits because of the impact of non-discretionary input. Originality/value Providing information on resource sharing by taking into account non-discretionary factors for each subunit can help managers to make better decisions to increase the efficiency.

Begitupula untuk nilai throughput, penggunaan protokol PAgP masih lebih baik 10% dibandingkan dengan LACP.Kata kunci: LAN, Load balancing, Etherchannel, PAgP, LACP ABSTRACTThe increasing number of users is one cause of declining network performance if only use on the same bandwidth value. For example, in the implementation on the campus network, LAN among different building is usually connected using a switch. The decreasing of network performance on that network due to the increasing of the number of users which can be overcome by using a load balancing concept with EtherChannel technology utilization. The implementation of that technology uses two protocols, namely PAgP and LACP. This research intends to test the network performance by applying the load balancing concept using both PAgP and LACP protocols. The experiment scenarios used a client-server concept, where the implemented application server is FTP for exchanging data services and VLC software for implementing video streaming services. In the use of FTP services with using PAgP protocol showed a delay value of 42% better than LACP. The same with throughput value, the use of PAgP protocol still better 10% than LACP.Keywords: LAN, Load balancing, Etherchannel, PAgP, LACP

Bayesian Network classifiers (BNCs) are Bayesian Network (BN) models specifically tailored for classification tasks. There is a wide range of existing models that vary in complexity and efficiency. All of them have in common the ability to deal with uncertainty in a very natural way, at the same time providing a descriptive environment. In this chapter, the authors focus on the family of semi-naïve Bayesian classifiers (naïve Bayes, AODE, TAN, kDB, etc.), motivated by the good trade-off between efficiency and performance they provide. The domain of the BNs is generally of discrete nature, but since the presence of continuous variables is very common, the chapter discusses more classical and novel approaches to handling numeric data. In this chapter the authors also discuss more recent techniques such as multi-dimensional and dynamic models. Last but not least, they focus on applications and recent developments, including some of the BNCs approaches to the multi-class problem together with other traditionally successful and cutting edge cases regarding real-world applications.

The authors consider distributed mobile networks carrying time-varying heterogeneous traffics. To deal effectively with the mobile and time-varying distributed environment, the deployment of traffic and network performance monitoring techniques is necessary for the identification of traffic changes, network failures, and also for the facilitation of protocol adaptations and topological modifications. Concurrently, the heterogeneous traffic environment necessitates the deployment of hybrid information transport techniques. This chapter discusses the design, analysis, and evaluation of distributed and dynamic techniques which manage the traffic and monitor the network performance effectively, while capturing the dynamics inherent in the mobile heterogeneous environments. Specifically, the design of a monitoring sub-network is sought, where the arising research tasks include: • the adoption of a core sequential algorithm which monitors both the variations in the rates of the information data flows and the dynamics of the network performance. • The identification of the specific operational and performance characteristics of the monitoring systems, when the core algorithm is implemented in a distributed environment; for a given network topology, it is important to identify the minimum size monitoring sub-network for complete “visibility” of data flows and network functions. • Dynamically changing monitoring sub-network architectures, as functions of time-varying network topologies. • The deployment of Artificial Intelligence learning techniques, in the presence of dynamically changing network and information flow environments, to appropriately adapt crucial operational parameters of the data monitoring algorithms.

Grid computing is a newly developed technology for complex systems with large-scale resource sharing, wide-area communication, and multi-institutional collaboration. It is hard to analyze and model the Grid reliability because of its largeness, complexity and stiffness. Therefore, this chapter introduces the Grid computing technology, presents different types of failures in grid system, models the grid reliability with star structure and tree structure, and finally studies optimization problems for grid task partitioning and allocation. The chapter then presents models for star-topology considering data dependence and treestructure considering failure correlation. Evaluation tools and algorithms are developed, evolved from Universal generating function and Graph Theory. Then, the failure correlation and data dependence are considered in the model. Numerical examples are illustrated to show the modeling and analysis.

The Advanced Network Technologies is research that investigates technology(s) behind today’s modern networks and network infrastructures. One part of this technology being Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM). A technology commonly in place in networks all around the world today. This paper focuses on ATM. Dubbed “Modelling and Performance Studies of ATM Networks”; this research seeks to look at and into the “impact of application segment length on the performance of an ATM network” and the “impact of traffic type data on the performance of an ATM network”. To be able to examine an ATM network, the authors need to be able to simulate a network. Thus, for this research, they have used the OPNET Modeler 14.0 Simulation software to create a network model that represents a ATM network. By actually simulating an ATM network at AUT University New Zealand, the authors can therefore change certain variables, and observe the effects the changes have on performance. As stated, one of the impacts that will be explored is the effect that application segment length has on an ATM network. Thus, one variable that will be changed in the authors’ simulation is the segment length. This is the length of each packet segment that is sent through the network for a particular traffic type. The second impact to be inspected is the impact of different traffic types on an ATM network. This network model is based on a campus network. An Application Configuration is setup with default parameters which specify 8 common applications used. Among them the ones that the authors will focus on are VOIP, Video and FTP. A Profile Configuration is setup that will define the 3 applications stated above. A fixed node model of 100BaseT will specify the profile configuration for each scenario and the number of work stations of each scenario.

Software-defined wireless sensor networking (SDWSN) is an emerging networking architecture which is envisioned to become the main enabler for the internet of things (IoT). In this architecture, the sensors plane is managed by a control plane. With this separation, the network management is facilitated, and performance is improved in dynamic environments. One of the main issues a sensor environment is facing is the limited lifetime of network devices influenced by high levels of energy consumption. The current work proposes a system design which aims to improve the energy efficiency in an SDWSN by combining the concepts of content awareness and adaptive data broadcast. The purpose is to increase the sensors’ lifespan by reducing the number of generated data packets in the resource-constrained sensors plane of the network. The system has a distributed management approach, with content awareness being implemented at the individual programmable sensor level and the adaptive data broadcast being performed in the control plane. Several simulations were run on historical weather and the results show a significant decrease in network traffic. Compared to similar work in this area which focuses on improving energy efficiency with complex algorithms for routing, clustering, or caching, the current proposal employs simple computing procedures on each network device with a high impact on the overall network performance.
