Reading is an important skill that can be used to communicate and understand the academic, business and cultural world. Reading can be a tool for learners’ progress and success in different fields of discipline. This study utilized descriptive-correlational design to examine 41 respondents selected as census or total enumeration using purposive sampling. Findings revealed that majority of the respondents used hard copy reading materials for the past 12 months. There were 22 respondents who used books, 2 who used magazines and 1 respondent used newspaper. Most of the class were in frustration level which is 75. 6%. There was one non-reader. Independent readers were four and instructional were five. There was a significant negative relationship (cc= -0.572 and p-value= 0.001) between choice of reading materials and reading achievement. This suggested that the use of soft copies as reading material is correlated to high reading achievement.  The implications may serve as basis for intervention, program, and policy formulation. Teachers need to design interactive reading materials using the 21st Century technologies like soft copies reading materials which can be handy and can be access anytime and anywhere using mobile phones. Reading intervention using technology-based materials may be designed to improve reading achievement of the students. Schools may introduce e-library which may introduce various materials that can be accessed and read in soft copy format.  This will also be beneficial to distance learning modality.

Abstract. Locus of control is one of the personality characteristics possessed by humans. Locus of control can be divided into two, namely internal locus of control and external locus of control. Locus of control is a predictor of several other variables, such as learning achievement. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of locus of control with learning achievement. This research uses descriptive and correlational methods. The instrument filling is done online by using the google form application considering the increasing spread of COVID-19. Finally, as many as 36 students participated in filling this instrument. In this study, researchers used the Rotters Internal-External Locus of Control (IE Scale) inventory consisting of 29 items, of which there were 6 filler items, so that the total number of items that could be processed was 23 items, while to see learning achievement using the Grade Point Average (GPA) that researchers get from the Academic Information System (SIAKAD). Research findings show that locus of control has a strong negative relationship with student learning achievement. We advise students to have an internal locus of control while continuing to believe in God; The counselor is expected to be able to arrange an intervention program for students who have an external locus of control and have low learning achievement.

The purpose of this article is to design the holistic evaluation in teaching reading. Assessment plays an important role in education process. Good evaluation is essential for good education and good learning. The evaluation of reading material is able to depict the faults and advantages of a reading instruction program. Also, students are able to know the level of their ability and absorption of reading materials from the assessment. The research method used is the library method. Assessment is an important part of teaching reading. So far, there are still found some designs of reading assessment which are not integrated and comprehensive, identical to the theory of reading comprehension including literal reading, interpretive reading, critical reading, and creative reading. As a result of this research, the design of the reading assessment is based upon the teaching and learning process (the daily calendar) or the so-called formative evaluation and an evaluation that is based at the end of the lecture in the form of midterm exams and final exams, or what is called a final evaluation. The evaluation design has two types comprising the practice evaluation and the written evaluation.

Salah satu SDM (Sumber Daya Manusia) di RS yang mempunyai waktu bersama pasien paling lama adalah perawat. Pada pemberian asuhan keperawatan yang berkualitas diperlukan suatau kinerja yang baik. Terdapat beberapa hal yang mempengaruhi kinerja, salah satunya adalah quality nursing work life (QNWL). One of the HR (Human Resources) in a hospital that has the longest time with patients is a nurse. In the provision of quality nursing care required a good performance. There are several things that affect performance, one of which is quality nursing work life (QNWL). Nurses with high workloads and monotonous work designs are prone to experiencing burnout syndrome (work stress). This study aims to determine the relationship of QNWL with burnout syndrome. Correlational and cross sectional design was used in this study. QNWL is an independent variable and burnout syndrome is the dependent variable. Data obtained through a questionnaire. The sample size of 30 respondents obtained by purposive sampling. Data analysis was performed with the Spearman Rank Test with p value 0.009 and the correlation coefficient of -0.56 which showed that there was a moderate level of correlation between QNWL and the incidence of burnout syndrome with the direction of the negative relationship, meaning that the better QNWL, the more minimizing burnout syndrome. One of the factors that influence QNWL is a conducive work environment, therefore it is expected that nurses will be able to establish good cooperation between teams in order to create a harmonious work atmosphere and a harmonious work environment, thereby reducing the incidence of burnout to nurse

As it is true for other three language skills, reading is a process involving the activation of relevant knowledge and related language skills to accomplish an exchange of information from one person to another .Reading requires that the reader focus attention on the reading materials and integrate previously acquired knowledge and skills to comprehend what someone else has written. There have been a lot of researches on reading and reading comprehension. One of the most interesting areas in reading comprehension is related to schemata theory. This interesting line of research in the second language area concerns the effect on reading performance of readers' own internalized models or emotions and beliefs, consequently different internalized models or schemata, males will have greater comprehension achievement if they read the text which sound masculine and females will have greater comprehension achievement provided that they read text which are about feminine topics. Having a look at the revised pre-university English course book, we can truly recognize that nearly all of the text in this book with the topics such as sports and exercise (with a picture of man in running), global warming and man and space (with a picture of man in the space) are male oriented .Based on the result of previous researches on reading comprehension, this paper suggests: Including balance of reading material ,one half male oriented and one half female oriented; including topics such as space ,war ,competition ,sports for males ;including topics such as house chores ,humanities and baby sittings for females in high school levels of English course book; That both male and female have the equal chance to activate their pre-existent knowledge to comprehend the text.

Sixty-two inner-city Canadian boys identified as struggling readers participated in a 22-week intervention that examined the effects of male reading tutors, computer-based texts, and choice of reading materials. Immediately after the intervention, boys demonstrated between-group changes to reader self-perceptions and gendered views of reading but no between-group differences in achievement. Two years after the intervention’s completion, the boys’ reading comprehension achievement scores were again examined and compared to 62 non-participating boys matched at the time of the study’s onset. Results showed no significant differences between the two groups. Of the boys who participated in the intervention, working with male reading tutors and with computer-based texts did not result in higher achievement than working with female reading tutors or with print-based texts. However, boys who were not given a choice in their reading materials demonstrated reading achievement six months ahead of the boys who were given a choice.

A pot experiment was carried out to assess the effects of arsenic and aquatic fern (Marsilea minuta L.), when applied as a phytoremediator, on the nutrient content (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium) of rice. Two sets of pot experiments were conducted in the net house on rice (Oryza sativa L.) together with aquatic fern (M. minuta) and on aquatic fern (M. minuta) alone where soils were treated with 1 mg/L As-solution at 80% arsenite and 20% arsenate. No significant difference was found in the nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium concentrations of rice, in the absence of arsenic, whether grown in the presence of M. minuta or not. The uptake of total nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium was found to be 36%, 23%, and 22% more, respectively in rice plants treated with M. minuta and arsenic over the control treatment, although the results were statistically insignificant. However, a significant negative relationship was found between arsenic and root nitrogen (P-value of 0.0017) when grown together with arsenic and M. minuta. A significant positive relationship was found between arsenic and shoot phosphorus (P-value of 0.0025) as well as arsenic and shoot and root potassium (P-values were 0.0045 and 0.0115, respectively). The results indicate that Marsilea minuta might be used as a phytoremediator of As together with rice plants.Bangladesh J. Agril. Res. 43(2): 211-218, June 2018

In this study we introduced an easy-to-use, structured reading materials-based psychological capital (PsyCap) intervention program, and examined its effectiveness with a sample of 234 employees in China. The results at posttest showed that PsyCap and job performance of the intervention group significantly increased after the program, whereas they remained unchanged in the control group. These results support the effectiveness of the intervention program, and confirm that PsyCap can be developed. Analyses of follow-up retest scores taken 3 months after the program was conducted showed that overall PsyCap, hope, and job performance were significantly higher in the intervention group than in the pretest group. Furthermore, the program control group's PsyCap and job performance retest scores were significantly lower than their pretest scores. The results suggest a long-lasting, though not robust, effect of the intervention.
