The semi-circular bending (SCB) test is a recently developed test method, adopted by the American Society of Testing and Material (ASTM) as ASTM D8044, to evaluate the cracking resistance of asphalt mixtures. To measure the robustness of the SCB test, a ruggedness test is needed. In this study, the effect of small changes in the key parameters of the test method on the results of the test were numerically investigated. The test method has many variables and set up conditions. Examining all of these parameters would be cumbersome using traditional testing and statistical techniques, as they require a significantly high number of samples. The Plackett–Burman (PB) technique was used to conduct the ruggedness test while reducing the number of tests required. Seven parameters have been examined: notch location, notch depth (low, intermediate and high), air voids, loading rate, and span length. Even using the PB technique, 16 scenarios need to be tested, and each scenario requires three specimens, one for each of the three notch depths. Hence the process requires plenty of time and material. In this study, the SCB test was modeled using a discrete element method (DEM) approach to analyze the fracture behavior of the samples. DEM was used to develop a model that reduced the time and materials required for the SCB test. Results showed that the parameters with most positive effect were intermediate notch depth and notch location, while those with the most negative effect were loading rates and air voids.

The objective of this paper is to investigate the effect of air voids on the fracture properties of asphalt mixtures using SCB test in Discrete Element Method (DEM). Superpave and Coarse Matrix High Binder (CMHB) mixtures gradation were used to generate the percentages of aggregate, mastic, and air voids within the specimens. Aggregates and air voids were randomly generated for each asphalt mixture case. Model results illustrate that the crack initiation and propagation is controlled by the location of the aggregate particles and air voids in the mixture. Additionally, the absence of air voids above the tip of the notch increases the stiffness of the sample and increase its resistance to failure. The novelty of using DEM and the random generation technique for generating numerical specimens proved to be a useful approach in investigating the properties of the mastic, aggregate and interface as they relate to fracture of asphalt mixtures.

In this paper, we directed our attention to the interlaminar defects and their influence on the interlaminar strengths. With the aid of a S-570 scanning electron microscope, the morphology and distribution of interlaminar defects were inspected and documented. According to their shape, size and cause of formation, the defects were classified into five types: flakiness void, irregular shaped debond, local imperfectly cured resin, debond in two multi-directional plies, and inhomogeneous fibers and the large scale debond by these fibers. The cause of defects formation was discussed by analyzing the manufacturing process of composites. The influence of defects on the interlaminar strength and its mechanism was analyzed experimentally and theoretically. The results indicate that these defects, with different effects, decrease the interlaminar strength because they form interlaminar cracks, and the interlaminar shear strength is less affected than interlaminar tensile strength, which is measured according to GB4944 test method. To comprehend defects distribution effect, a four-point-bending test method was introduced to measure the interlaminar peel strength, and a discussion was made on the correlation between the interlaminar tensile strength, interlaminar peel strength and in-plane transverse tensile strength. Finally the concept of interlaminar defect coefficient, which can be used to characterize the defects, was set up and the formula to calculate it was proposed.

There has been an increasing demand for onshore testing of equipment destined for offshore operation. The justification for this requirement can be summarized as follows: 1. High cost of offshore commissioning where even minor faults detected, constitutes potentially serious problems. 2. Consequenses of delay of platform start-up are enormous. 3. Skilled experienced personel and diagnostic equipment is available onshore, and rectification of new units will benefit from the existence of previous experience. 4. Spare and renewal parts availability. This paper describes the method for string testing of a 3 unit 60 mw utility gasturbine-generator power module built for the gullfaks A platform in the Norwegian sector of the north sea. It describes the test facility and test equipment set up and also the test program which was followed. At the time of writing the paper the test program was barely initiated, and for that reason the test results will be presented in the form of an addendum to this paper during the meeting.

Subclinical mastitis is a disease that often occurs in Etawa (PE) crossbreed goat farms. Farmers in handling this disease usually use antibiotics, giving antibiotics that are not right or according to the procedure can cause residues. The presence of antibiotic residues in goat's milk can have an impact on human health such as poisoning, allergies, and microbiological disorders. This study aims to determine the incidence rate and find the presence of antibiotic residues in the milk of Etawa Peranakan goat who suffer from subclinical mastitis in Aikmual Village, Central Lombok Regency. Test results from 6 samples of etawa-crossed goat milk (PE) suffering from subclinical mastitis using the Bioassay Screening Test method showed negative results containing antibiotic residues. Negative results in the sample are marked by the absence of dead bacteria on paper discs that have been soaked with milk samples from goats that are positive for subclinical mastitis, this is evident from the absence of inhibitory zones formed. The negative effect of this milk sample is due to several possibilities, namely: The stopping period of the drug has been reached and the antibiotics used are in accordance with  the  dose. The duration of the presence of antibiotics in milk depends on several factors,  including: dose, method of administration and type of antibiotic. In  general,  it is applied  that the withdrawal time of narrow spectrum antibiotics is at least 5 days after treatment, for the type of antibiotics that can form a depot (broad spectrum) has a withdrawal time of 1 3 days
