The Impact of Star Ratings and Corporate Affiliation on Hotel Room Prices in Israel

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the pricing decisions of hotels in an effort to ascertain whether corporate affiliation and stars influence hotels' pricing decisions. The findings suggest that high-quality (ie four- and five-star) hotels tend to be affiliated with chains and signal this affiliation using a naming strategy. In addition, the industry-based star rating system explains a large part of the price variation. The impact of corporate affiliation, modelled as the size of the corporation, has a relatively smaller, but overall positive, impact on price. An investigation of different locations reveals that the intensity of corporate affiliation, and specific characteristics of the consumers' market in each location are also significant in explaining the hotels' pricing decisions.

Buyers on eBay commonly rely on seller feedback ratings to determine bidding strategies.  Various studies have examined the impact of eBay’s reputation system on auction outcomes.  This study builds on prior research by examining the relationship between seller ratings on auction prices for two distinct product types, DVDs and designer watches and by benchmarking the bid prices against retail prices. The results show that eBay ratings explain a greater degree of price variation in Designer Watches than in DVDs.  The study also suggests that high quality product listings with such features as digital images, formatted pages, and product details may result in higher bid prices.

This paper analyzes the impact of metro station proximity on property value from both theoretical and empirical perspectives. Data on second-hand apartments within six kilometers of metro line 1 and 2 stations in Nanjing are used. Our empirical results show that metro station proximity has a positive partial effect on property value. The degree of impact diminishes with the increase of the distance. The extent of impact reaches the largest when the distance is less than five hundred meters, and is still remarkable when the distance is within two kilometers. The effect becomes insignificant when the distance is larger than two kilometers. Our empirical results also show that with the distance increasing, the extent of price variation is widened first, reaching a peak when the property is within one kilometer, and then decreases. In addition, metro station proximity in suburban areas is shown to have a higher positive impact on property value compared with metro station proximity in urban areas.

Abstract Proponents of early childhood education and care programs cite evidence that high-quality center-based childcare has positive impacts on child development, particularly for disadvantaged children. However, much of this evidence stems from randomized evaluations of small-scale intensive programs based in the United States and other Anglo/English-speaking countries. Evidence is more mixed with respect to widespread or universal center-based childcare provision. In addition, most evidence is based on childcare experiences of 3- to 5-year-old children; less is known about the impact of center-based care in earlier childhood. The French context is particularly suited to such interrogation because the majority of French children who attend center-based care do so in high-quality, state-funded, state-regulated centers, known as crèches, and before age 3. We use data from a large, nationally representative French birth cohort, the Étude Longitudinale Français depuis l'Enfance (Elfe), and an instrumental variables strategy that leverages exogenous variation in both birth quarter and local crèche supply to estimate whether crèche attendance at age 1 has an impact on language, motor skills, and child behavior at age 2. Results indicate that crèche attendance has a positive impact on language skills, no impact on motor skills, and a negative impact on behavior. Moreover, the positive impact on language skills is particularly concentrated among disadvantaged children. This implies that facilitating increased crèche access among disadvantaged families may hold potential for decreasing early socioeconomic disparities in language development and, given the importance of early development for later-life outcomes, thereby have an impact on long-term population inequalities.

This paper uses the data of 30 provincial regions in mainland China except Tibet from 2006 to 2018 to weighted measure the intensity of environmental regulation through the weight determined by the ranking of pollutant emission intensity year by year; Based on the three subsystems of economy, society and environment, this paper constructs a high-quality development measurement index system, and determines the weight year by year by entropy method, as well as measures the high-quality development level by weight; From the perspective of enterprise production decision, the influence of environmental regulation on high-quality development is theoretically deduced. Through the empirical test of two threshold models with environmental regulation intensity and per capita GDP as the threshold, it confirms each other, and empirically analyzes the impact of environmental regulation intensity on high-quality development level. The research results show that: The impact of environmental regulation intensity on high-quality development level, with the change of enterprises’ decision-making to deal with environmental regulation, has an obvious threshold effect. Before reaching the threshold, the increase of environmental regulation intensity has a negative impact on high-quality development; After reaching the threshold, the impact of the increase of environmental regulation intensity on high-quality development may have a short uncertain stage, followed by a positive impact. Government environmental regulation should be combined with the local stage to avoid the misunderstanding of blindly improving the intensity of environmental regulation; Government environmental regulation should focus on reducing the cost of cleaner production and technological innovation, and accelerate the formation of “forced“ innovation mechanism of environmental regulation, so as to give full play to the positive role of environmental regulation in promoting high-quality and high-development.

The relationship between financial system and economic development is not a simple linear relationship. In some cases, the development of finance may not improve the economic development level. This paper studies the influence of the financial system on the high-quality economic development, constructs the comprehensive index of the financial system by the factor analysis method, and calculates the green total factor productivity as the index of high-quality economic development by the CRS multiplier model. Empirically, this paper takes the panel data of 30 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in China from 2005 to 2018 as samples, constructs the panel threshold model, and applies the financial system, economic development level, infrastructure, and industrial structure as threshold variables to study the nonlinear relationship between the financial system and high-quality economic development. The results demonstrate that the impact of the financial system on the high-quality economy presents an inverted U-shaped relationship when the financial system and industrial structure are the threshold variables, indicating that there is an optimal interval, that is, when the financial system threshold is between 0.1355 and 0.1377 and the industrial structure threshold is between 0.1364 and 0.1408, the financial system plays a greater role in the allocation of funds and has the most obvious positive impact on high-quality economic development. Meanwhile, the impact of the financial system on the high-quality shows a marginal decreasing trend when the economic development level and infrastructure are the threshold variables; when the economic development threshold is less than 0.1409 and the basic setting threshold is less than 0.1167, the financial system has the greatest effect on promoting high-quality economic development. Based on the research results, targeted policy suggestions are put forward.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to: build Muslim consumer decision-making style (MCDMS); analyze the influence of the consumer decision-making style on Muslim behavior to buy halal certified food; analyze the impact of religiosity on Muslim behavior in buying halal-certified food and study the role of religiosity in the relationship between MCDMS and Muslim behavior in buying halal certified food. Design/methodology/approach This study’s target population is the Muslim Indonesian population age at least 18 years old. The self-administered survey method is carried out based on convenience and snowball sampling techniques and the questionnaire is distributed online. This study collects data from 396 Muslim respondents in Indonesia through an online survey. Factor analysis and regression with interaction variables are applied to test the research hypothesis statistically. Findings This study reveals several results: MCDMS produces 10 dimensions; halal consciousness is an important dimension; the perfectionist/high-quality conscious and price-conscious, has a significant negative effect on the intention to buy halal-certified food; the halal consciousness and the recreational/hedonic conscious have a significant positive effect on the intention to buy halal certified food; religiosity has a significant positive impact directly on the intention to purchase halal-certified food; Religiosity positively moderates the impact of a perfectionist/high-quality conscious and price-conscious on the intention to buy halal-certified food. Originality/value This paper will build an MCDMS by adding the dimensions of halal consciousness. The author has not found literature about MCDMS. This research will also study the impact of MCDMS and religiosity on the intention to buy halal-certified food, as well as will study the role of religiosity in relationships between Muslim decision-making styles and intention to buy halal-certified food. Similar research is still very limited in marketing literature.

Front-of-pack (FoP) nutrition labels are a widely deployed tool in public good marketing. This article reports on a field experimental test of the impact of one of these systems, the Australasian Health Star Rating system (HSR), on consumer choice in the breakfast cereals category in New Zealand. This study forms part of a time-series replication stream of research on this topic. The research applied a 2 × 2 factorial design with multiple replications to retail food consumers exiting from supermarkets in New Zealand. The first part of the time series, undertaken shortly after the HSR’s initiation in 2014, indicated that the HSR was ineffective. Between 2014 and 2016, commercial brands in the category within New Zealand massively promoted the HSR as a basis for consumer choice. The research presented in this article forms part of the second part of the series, undertaken in 2016, using an identical experimental methodology to the 2014 study. The results indicate that the HSR may be beginning to influence consumer choice as it was predicted to, but the impact of the system is still small, and statistically sub-significant, relative to other consumer decision inputs presented on the package.

The demand of high-quality metadata for the available multimedia content requires the development of new techniques able to correctly identify more and more information, including the speaker information. The task known as speaker attribution aims at identifying all or part of the speakers in the audio under analysis. In this work, we carry out a study of the speaker attribution problem in the broadcast domain. Through our experiments, we illustrate the positive impact of diarization on the final performance. Additionally, we show the influence of the variability present in broadcast data, depicting the broadcast domain as a collection of subdomains with particular characteristics. Taking these two factors into account, we also propose alternative approximations robust against domain mismatch. These approximations include a semisupervised alternative as well as a totally unsupervised new hybrid solution fusing diarization and speaker assignment. Thanks to these two approximations, our performance is boosted around a relative 50%. The analysis has been carried out using the corpus for the Albayzín 2020 challenge, a diarization and speaker attribution evaluation working with broadcast data. These data, provided by Radio Televisión Española (RTVE), the Spanish public Radio and TV Corporation, include multiple shows and genres to analyze the impact of new speech technologies in real-world scenarios.

This paper investigates the production of misleading results from hedonic analysis when heterogeneity in the effects of quality characteristics is ignored. Two causes of such heterogeneity are examined: (a) when quality is registered in different ways in the brochures of different tour operators and (b) when the effects of quality characteristics differ between packages with a different star rating. Furthermore, the authors test the impact of the presence of these two sources of heterogeneity on the estimated effects of quality characteristics on price, along with a third possible source of heterogeneity – the rating system of the hotels. They then discuss the policy implications of their empirical findings.
