In educational organizations, any situation that disrupts the education process and makes it inoperable is defined as a crisis. This teaching case study is relevant to practicing and prospective principals and administrators because it raises issues related to leading in times of crisis. Specifically, this scenario addresses the role school culture plays in lifting teachers’ and students’ morale while also enhancing student learning. This scenario takes place during the COVID-19 pandemic at a time when schools were suddenly mandated to deliver instruction remotely. In this case study, the author provides a framework designed to create intentionally inviting school cultures. Creating inviting school cultures should always be the goal of leaders, but it is even more crucial in times of crisis.

Strengthening character education in schools is a government policy as an effort to re-put character as the core of education. The process of teaching and learning activities is currently carried out online and face-to-face while still prioritizing health protocols due to the pandemic. So, currently schools are required to continue to innovate in order to maximize the character education process in schools. The purpose of this study is to describe the strengthening of character education through school culture, the obstacles and efforts made during the pandemic. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation. The research location was conducted at Alam Al-Karim Elementary School, Lampung. The research subjects are the Principal, Deputy Principal and Teachers. Based on the results of the research, strengthening character education through school culture is carried out in the form of habituation activities namely, Morning Activity, Daily Worship, Murajaah Qur'an, and Green Therapy as a means of socializing character values ​​and awareness to maintain health and mentally facing a pandemic. The obstacles are the limited time available and limited physical communication. The effort made by the school is through making a special curriculum in the new normal era. The conclusion of this research is that strengthening character education through school culture in the middle of a pandemic carried out by the Alam Al-Karim Elementary School is an alternative concept that can be applied in order to make character education effective as an important goal in education.

War and migration is a traumatic situation that affects human life. Many Syrians had to migrate to our country due to the negativities experienced in Syria. Children are among the most affected by migrations. In this study, the problems encountered by Syrian students in the education process are discussed. The case study method was used in this qualitative research. The study group of the research consists of school administrators, teachers and Syrian students from public schools in Altındağ district, Ankara. A triple comparison was made in order to reveal the problem of the study exactly. Semi-structured interview form was used in the research. Descriptive and content analysis methods were used to analyze the collected data. According to the findings obtained from the research, According to the findings obtained from the research, it was stated that Syrian students experienced absenteeism, communication, violence and adaptation problems, various complaints came from families, and the curriculum did not meet the needs of students. Most of these problems were mentioned repeatedly by teachers and students. Administrators and teachers have developed some suggestions for solving the problems.   Özet   Savaş ve göç, insan hayatını etkileyen travmatik bir durumdur. Suriye’de yaşanan olumsuzluklar nedeniyle ülkemize birçok Suriyeli göç etmek zorunda kalmıştır. Göçten en çok etkilenenler arasında çocuklar yer almaktadır. Bu çalışmada Suriyeli öğrencilerin eğitim sürecinde karşılaştıkları sorunlar ele alınmıştır. Nitel bir çalışma olan bu araştırmada durum çalışması yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu Ankara ili Altındağ ilçesinde kamu okullarında çalışan okul yöneticileri, öğretmenler ve Suriyeli öğrenciler oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın sorununu doğru bir şekilde ortaya koymak için üçlü bir karşılaştırma yapılmıştır. Araştırmada yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin çözümlenmesinde betimsel ve içerik analizi yöntemlerinden yararlanılmıştır. Aratırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre, Suriyeli öğrencilerin devamsızlık, iletişim, şiddet ve uyum sorunları yaşandığı, ailelerden çeşitli şikayetler geldiği, müfredat programının öğrencilerin ihtiyaçlarına cevap vermediği dile getirilmiştir. Bu sorunların çoğunluğu öğretmen ve öğrenciler tarafından tekrarlanarak dile getirilmiştir. Yönetici ve öğretmenler sorunların çözümüne yönelik bazı öneriler geliştirmişlerdir.

The implementation of the rigorous, complex Common Core State Standards (CCSS) has prompted schools to initiate change in traditional organizational structures.  The CCSS have required teachers to have a deeper understanding of subject matter and specialized content instruction to effectively teach the standards.  There is a vast amount of research on educational change as related to school improvement, however, this research analyzed how schools create a context for change to implement a new innovation and improve the learning environment.   The purpose of this research study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an innovative hybrid schedule in improving student learning outcomes and school culture.  This mixed-method research study used data generated by the Stages of Concern Questionnaire (SoCQ), AdvancEd®’s Stakeholder Feedback Survey, ACT Aspire® Student Achievement Tests, and  teacher interviews.  The conceptual framework of the case study was based on the five attributes of the PLCs identified through the work of Shirley M. Hord (2004) and Michael Fullan’s Educational Change Theory (2007).   The results of this study indicated the implemented innovation had a significant impact on school culture based on the two administrations of the AdvancEd®’s Stakeholder Feedback Survey.  Additionally, student learning outcomes measured by ACT Aspire® Reading and Mathematics Student Achievement Tests showed statistically significant improvements in both reading and math.  Lastly, the analysis of teacher interviews supported the findings in the quantitative data.

Penulisan artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi(1) perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan penilaian pendidikan karakter berbasis kultur sekolah dalam pembelajaran IPS, dan (2) peran kultur sekolah dalam pendidikan karakter. Penelitian ini menggunakan studi kasus. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah kepala sekola, guru, dan siswa. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa (1) pada proses perencanaan sekolah memiliki program pengembangan kultur sekolah untuk mengimplementasikan  nilai-nilai karakter siswa yang diaktualisasikan melalui kegiatan pembelajaran; (2) pada proses pelaksanaan pendidikan karakter diaktualisasikan dengan memberi keteladanan, menegur, memberi tahu, memberi sangsi, dan memberi tugas melalui pendekatan dan metode yang komprehensif; (3) berdasarkan hasil penilaian menunjukan bahwa nilai-nilai karakter yang telah diaktualisasikan dengan baik dalam perilaku sehari-hari siswa di SMP N2 Juntinyuat  adalah demokrasi, religius, kerja sama, peduli sosial, rasa hormat, dan tanggung jawab; dan (4) peran kultur sekolah meliputi tiga aspek pokok yaitu persepsi mengenai suasana sekolah, perilaku murid, dan kepemimpinan kepala sekolah.Kata kunci: pendidikan karakter, kultur sekolah, pembelajaran IPS. THE ACTUALIZATION OF CHARACTER EDUCATION BASED ON SCHOOL CULTURE IN SOCIAL STUDIES LEARNING IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLAbstractThe article written is aimed to identify (1)planing, implementing, and assessing the character education based on school culture in social studies learning, and (2) the role of school culture in character education. The results showed that (1) in the process of planning the school has the development program of school culture to implement student character values which actualized through  learning activities; (2) in the implementation of character education actualized by giving good example, admonition, notification, punishment, and task; (3) based on assessing result showed that  the character values that have been actualized in the daily behavior of the students of SMP N2 Juntinyuat are democracy values, religious, cooperation, social care, respect/honor, and responsible; and (4) the role of school culture was described in three main aspects, those are the perception of school atmosphere, the behavior of the student, and management of headmaster.Keywords: character education, school culture, and social studies learning

Teachers and students had to use distance education environments due to the COVID-19 pandemic that suddenly emerged globally. This research aims at obtaining the views of gifted students who took the differentiated science curriculum (DSC) and teachers who conducted the DSC on the distance education process. The research was designed as a case study. Twelve seventh-grade gifted students (aged 11-12), a researcher teacher, and an observer teacher participated in the research. Student diaries, teacher diaries, and online focus group interviews were used to collect data, which were then analyzed with thematic analysis. It was observed that the students had parallel expectations and goals to the DSC at the beginning of the process. Moreover, they had positive and negative views on the distance education process. The students stated that they achieved their DSC goals at the end of the process and generally had positive experiences. On the other hand, the teachers drew attention to the problems arising from the educational environment, students, and curriculum in the distance education process. These problems were like communication, technical issues, lack of motivation, and timing. At the end of the process, the teachers suggested solutions to the problems.

This study is aimed to identify (1)the planing of character education in Islamic studies; (2) the implementing of character education in Islamic studies; and (3) the evaluating of character education in Islamic studies. The study was pursued the qualitative research with kind of case study.  The subjects were the principal, teachers, and students. The determination of the subjects was done by using the purposive technique by selecting a number of respondents who are tailored to the purpose of this research. The data were collected through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The technique of data analysis refers to the steps of data analysis proposed by Mills and Heberman with interactive models. The results showed that (1) in the process of planning the school has the development program of school culture to implement student character values which actualized through  learning activities; (2) in the implementation of character education actualized by giving good example, admonition, notification, punishment, and task; and (3) based on assessing result showed that  the character values that have been actualized in the daily behavior of the students of Muhammadiyah School in Juntinyuat are democracy values, religious, cooperation, social care, respect/honor, and responsible. This study is expected to provide contributions for social studies teachers in Indramayu district as an actualization internalization of character values through school culture.   Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi (1) perencanaan pendidikan karakter dalam pembelajaran PAI; (2) penerapan pendidikan karakter dalam pembelajaran PAI; dan (3) evaluasi pendidikan karakter dalam pembelajaran PAI. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan jenis studi kasus. Subjek penelitian adalah kepala sekolah, guru, dan siswa. Penentuan subjek dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik purposive dengan memilih sejumlah responden yang disesuaikan dengan tujuan penelitian ini. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi non-partisipan, wawancara mendalam dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data mengacu pada langkah-langkah analisis data yang diusulkan oleh Mills dan Heberman dengan model interaktif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) dalam proses perencanaan sekolah memiliki program pengembangan budaya sekolah untuk mengimplementasikan nilai-nilai karakter siswa yang diaktualisasikan melalui kegiatan pembelajaran; (2) dalam pelaksanaan pendidikan karakter diwujudkan dengan memberikan contoh yang baik, peringatan, pemberitahuan, hukuman, dan tugas; dan (3) berdasarkan hasil penilaian menunjukkan bahwa nilai-nilai karakter yang telah diaktualisasikan dalam perilaku sehari-hari siswa Sekolah Muhammadiyah Se-Kecamatan Juntinyuat adalah nilai-nilai demokrasi, religius, kerjasama, kepedulian sosial, saling menghargai/ menghormati, dan bertanggung jawab. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi bagi guru PAI di Kabupaten Indramayu sebagai aktualisasi internalisasi nilai-nilai karakter melalui budaya sekolah.

AbstractH.A.R. Tilaar emphasizes to the importance of education based on culture, because education is process of culture. Therefore, between the education and culture has been greatly relation, because the education is not able to be separated from culture that has reflected and grown up dynamically in Indonesian society.The purpose of this research is to determine how the education based on culture according to H.A.R. Tilaar’s perspective. The object of this research was H.A.R. Tilaar’s Perspective which concerns to the education based on culture.The approach of this research was literature review. The source of the data were a text book written by H.A.R. Tilaar and other literatures related to this research. The technique of analyzing data were the content analysis of the text book written by H.A.R. Tilaar and other literatures.The result of this research are : (a) H.A.R. Tilaar conceptualizes the education as an culturing processes; (b) the education process is an culturing process through the interactive process between teachers and students; (c) it is necessary to the Government of Indonesia to correct the National education concept by proposing several aspects such as ; (1) the basic value of education; (2) to notice the function of sociological education; (3) the relation between culture and education; (4) the education as The Agent ofChange, and (5) to get the equalization of education opportunity; and (d) to grow up the creative and adaptive thinking toward education phenomenawhich always move dynamically in the environment of the Indonesian community which has its complexity.Keyword: Education, Culture.

Bu makale, Türkiye’de yoğun göç almakta olan Güneydoğu Anadolu Bölgesi’ndeki okullarda, göçmen çocukların okullara dâhil edilmesine yönelik olarak idarecilerin düşünce, inanç ve tutumlarını inceleyen nitel bir araştırmanın sonuçlarını bildirmektedir. Araştırma özelde, okul yöneticilerinin göçmen çocukların kendi okullarında eğitilmesine yönelik tutumlarını, bu eğitimin önünde duran ve okul ikliminden kaynaklanan engelleri ve göçmen çocukların kendini ait hissettikleri bütünleştirici okul iklimleri inşa edilebilmesi için eğitim sistemindeki mevcut fırsatları ortaya koymayı amaçlamıştır. Araştırmada, 18 okul yöneticisinden nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olan yarı-yapılandırılmış görüşmeler kullanılarak veri toplanmış ve bu veriler tematik analiz yöntemiyle çözümlenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda (i) okul yöneticilerinin göçmen çocuklara ayrıştırılmış ortamlarda eğitim verilmesini desteklediği ve kendi okullarında eğitim görmelerine dair olumsuz tutumlar beslediği, (ii) yapısal yetersizliklerin ve düşük toplumsal kabul düzeyinin göçmen çocukların eğitimine yönelik olumsuz tutumları önemli ölçüde etkilediği ve (iii) bütünleşik okul kültürlerinin oluşması için paydaşların psiko-sosyal ve yapısal anlamda desteklenmesi gerektiği ortaya çıkmıştır. ENGLISH ABSTRACTMigrant children and school cultures: A suggestion for inclusionThis article reports on the findings of an empirical research investigating the thoughts, beliefs and attitudes towards the inclusion of migrant children in the South-eastern region of Turkey which is currently exposed to intensive migration waves. Specifically, the article explores the attitudes of school administrators towards the education of migrant children in their schools, the barriers to this education stemming from the school culture and the opportunities in the education system to build inclusive school cultures in which migrant children can feel belonging to. The research employed 18 school administrators, utilized semi-structured interviews to collect qualitative data and analyzed them through thematic analysis. Findings showed that (a) school administrators supported education of migrant children in segregated environments and possessed negative attitudes towards their education in public schools; (b) structural limitations and low social acceptance levels affected the negative attitudes towards the education of migrant children and (c) stakeholders needed to be provided with psycho-social and structural support in order to establish inclusive school cultures.  Keywords: Migrant children; inclusive school culture; qualitative research; Turkey

This study is a class action that aims to improve learning outcomes in subjects PPKn sixth grade students of SDN 002 Ukui Dua. This research is motivated by the low activity and low teacher and student learning outcomes in subjects PPKn. The problem of this study is whether the implementation of a strategy to answer alternately patterned circle round robin can improve student learning outcomes in subjects PPKn in the sixth grade SDN 002 Ukui Dua? This PPKn was conducted over two cycles. Data collection techniques in this research using collection observation techniques, achievement test, and documentation. Techniques of analysis in this study is an analysis of the activities of teachers and students and learning outcomes in subjects PPKn sixth grade students SDN 02 Ukui Dua Kecamatant Ukui. The result showed that the activity of teachers has increased. At the first meeting of the first cycle of 41% was obtained with Simply Perfect category and the second meeting reached 55% with the category Fairly Perfect. In the second cycle 3 meeting to reach 75% by the Perfect category and the 4th meeting of the second cycle reaches 85% with the Perfect category. While the activity of students has increased. At the first meeting of the first cycle reaches 51% with the category Fairly Perfect and the second meeting with the percentage of 66% to the category Perfect. After the second cycle of the third meeting with a percentage of 75% with the Perfect category while in attendance for-4 with the percentage of 94% to the category of Most Perfect. Learning outcomes of students also increased from the previous students who achieve KKM only 8 votes with a percentage (45%) after the first cycle an increase in students worth over KKM which reached 14 people with a percentage of 70%. Cycle II students who achieve KKM 17 (85%).

The background of this research is to learn Indonesian low yields, it is proved that out of 28students only 14 Siwa which reached KKM. To the researchers conduct classroom actionresearch with the aim to improve learning outcomes Indonesian. This research is a class actwho do sebanya two cycles by applying the method of exercise. This research was conductedin SD Negeri 009 Air Emas Kecamatan Ukui. The data used in this study is the activity dataand the teacher and student learning outcomes. Based on the research data showed that theactivities of teachers and students has increased at each cycle, as evidenced by getting ascore, namely: (a) the activities of teachers has increased in each cycle, the first cycle ofmeetings I gained a score of 9 (37.50%), the first cycle II meeting obtain a score of 14(58.33%), the second cycle of meetings I obtain a score of 19 (79.16%). And the second cycleII meeting obtain a score of 21 (87.50%). Additionally the activity of students has increased ateach cycle. At the meeting I cycle I obtained a score of 9 (37.50%), in the second meeting ofthe second cycle obtain a score of 16 (66.68%), at a meeting I cycle II obtained a score of 18(75.00%). And at the second meeting of the second cycle obtain a score of 22 (91.67%); and(b) the learning outcomes of students has increased at each cycle. In the first cycle thenumber of students who scored at intervals of> 80 amounted to 0 (0%), at intervals of 75-84value amounted to 7 students (25.00%), at intervals of 65-74 values were 12 students(42.85%) and at intervals of 55-64 value amounted to 9 students (32.14%). In the secondcycle the number of students who scored at intervals of> 80 amounted to 0 (0%), at intervalstotaling 21 students grades 75-84 (75.00%), at intervals of 65-74 grades are 5 students(17.85%) and at intervals of 55-64 value amounted to 2 students (7.14%). Additionallymastery learning students also increased, in the first cycle is the number of students whocompleted the 19 students (67.85%) increased in the second cycle by the number of 26students (92.85%).
