A number of news organizations have begun shifting commenting from their websites to Facebook, based on the implicit assumption that commenting on Facebook is an equivalent (or preferred) substitute. Using survey data from 317 online news commenters, and drawing on the concept of imagined audience, this article examines this assumption by comparing news commenters’ perceptions of imagined audiences for comments on news organizations’ websites and on Facebook. While news commenters had mostly different imagined audiences between the two platforms, they had similar evaluations of the personal dimensions of their audiences and the quality of news comments. News commenters on Facebook, for example, did not perceive their audiences to be any more reasonable, intelligent, or responsive—or any less aggressive—than did commenters on news organizations’ websites. Facebook commenters also did not perceive comments to be of any greater quality than did commenters on news organizations’ websites. Thus, it appears that at least in the context of aiming to elevate the quality and civility of civic discourse, news commenters do not perceive Facebook to be demonstrably better than news organizations’ websites. Implications for journalism, social media, and future research are discussed.

Scholars have questioned the potential for incidental exposure in high-choice media environments. We use online survey data to examine incidental exposure to news on social media (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter) in four countries (Italy, Australia, United Kingdom, United States). Leaving aside those who say they intentionally use social media for news, we compare the number of online news sources used by social media users who do not see it as a news platform, but may come across news while using it (the incidentally exposed), with people who do not use social media at all (non-users). We find that (a) the incidentally exposed users use significantly more online news sources than non-users, (b) the effect of incidental exposure is stronger for younger people and those with low interest in news and (c) stronger for users of YouTube and Twitter than for users of Facebook.

The purpose of this study is to compare the reliability of Likert scale between crisp and fuzzy data. The survey data is simulated based on two kinds of questionnaire data. They are questionnaire of crisp data and fuzzy data respectively. According to the viewpoints of fuzzy logic, human thinking is multi-value and fuzzy data will be more appropriate for survey. Therefore, it is proposed that the reliability from fuzzy data will be higher. Results of the simulation show that reliability of fuzzy data performs better than crisp data. Based on the findings of this study, some suggestions and recommendations are discussed for future research.

Purpose The quality assessment of e-commerce services is of particular research interest, as it has been widely found that quality is directly linked to customer satisfaction and loyalty, which in turn leads to improved sales results, the creation of reputation and enhanced competitiveness for active companies in the industry. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the quality in e-commerce and to examine the relationships developed among its individual dimensions and satisfaction, perceived value, perceived risk and customer loyalty. Design/methodology/approach Initially, exploratory factor analysis with the equamax rotation method was applied to identify the perceptions of consumers regarding quality, value, satisfaction, risk and loyalty. The effect of the factors that make up perceived quality of e-services on customer value, satisfaction, risk and loyalty was examined by using OLS regression analysis. Likewise, path analysis was applied to confirm the impact of perceived quality on total consumer satisfaction, perceived value and loyalty, utilizing perceived risk as a moderating variable. Findings The authors found that quality overall has a positive and statistically significant relationship with perceived value, satisfaction and loyalty and negative with perceived risk. From the individual dimensions of quality, it has been found that ease of use of websites, design, responsiveness and security lead to increased levels of perceived value, while ease of use, responsiveness and personalization lead to an increase in the overall satisfaction of consumers. Overall, it has been documented that high levels of quality lead to higher satisfaction and perceived value, mitigating perceived risk and positively impacting the adoption of desirable consumer behaviors as reflected in customer loyalty. Research limitations/implications In this respect, future research in the field of e-commerce can examine the quality of the respective electronic services taking into account different product and business categories. In addition, the future research can focus on the impact of high satisfaction, perceived value and customer loyalty on various sizes of business performance, including sales, market share, competitiveness, financial efficiency and sustainability. Practical implications Given the clear relationship between quality, perceived value and satisfaction, e-commerce businesses have the potential to benefit significantly from improvements in the quality of their services, as this leads to increased levels of perceived value, high level of satisfaction and hence enhanced customer loyalty, which is in turn reflected in increased sales, positive word-of-mouth, improved reputation and brand loyalty. In this way, e-businesses will be able to improve their financial position, achieve higher market shares, maintain their competitive advantage, attract new development resources and become sustainable on a long-term basis. Social implications Businesses need to understand the factors that determine the quality in e-commerce to be able to achieve customer satisfaction and reduce perceived risk through improved quality. These factors, which consumers perceive as important for quality, are critical. Originality/value The concepts of quality, perceived value, risk, satisfaction and loyalty are considered to be interlinked in both traditional consumer research and e-commerce, as high levels of perceived quality are believed to lead to positive assessments of the cost-benefit and, hence, the perceived value (Cronin et al., 2000; Sweeney and Soutar, 2001; Korda and Snoj, 2010) and loyalty. In this context, this study attempted to study the relationship of these five variables, through both regression and path analysis, resulting in similar results. According to the findings of the study, perceived quality of website services has a positive and statistically significant impact on perceived value, satisfaction and an opposite effect on perceived risk, while the last is mitigating variable for and loyalty.

BACKGROUND As we are witnessing the evolution of social media (SM) use globally among the general population, popularity of SM has also been embraced by healthcare professionals. In the context of SM evolution and exponential growth of users, this rapid review summarizes recent findings about e-professionalism of healthcare professionals (HCPs). OBJECTIVE The objective of our study was to review and characterize the original peer-reviewed research studies published from November 1, 2014 to November 31,, 2018 on e-professionalism of healthcare professionals, to assess the quality of methodologies and approaches used, to explore the impact of social media on e-professionalism of healthcare professionals recognizing benefits and dangers of social media and to provide insights to guide future research in this area. METHODS A search of the literature was performed in December 2018 using 3 databases (PubMed, CINAHL and Scopus). The searches were conducted using the following defined search terms: 'professionalism’ AND 'social media' OR 'Internet' OR ‘Facebook’ OR ‘Twitter’ OR ‘Instagram’. The search strategy was limited to studies published in English. This rapid review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses and the Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews guidelines. RESULTS Of the 709 retrieved papers, a total of 58 studies were finally included in this review. Overall, the quality of the studies was satisfactory. Participants in the reviewed studies were from diverse healthcare professions. Medical health professionals were involved in about three-quarters of the studies. Three key benefits of SM on e-professionalism of HCPs were identified: 1) professional networking and collaboration, 2) professional education and training and 3) effectiveness of educational interventions about e-professionalism or impact of existing SM policies. For the selected studies, there are five recognized dangers of SM on e-professionalism of HCPs: 1) loosening accountability, 2) compromising confidentiality, 3) blurred professional boundaries, 4) depiction of unprofessional behavior, and 5) legal issues. This rapid review also recognizes recommendations for changes in educational curricula regarding e-professionalism or adopting novel approaches to existing SM policies as opportunities for improvement and barriers that influence HCPs use of SM in the context of e-professionalism. CONCLUSIONS Findings in reviewed studies indicate existence of both benefits and dangers of SM on e-professionalism of HCPs. Even though there are some barriers recognized, this review has highlighted existing recommendations for including e-professionalism in educational curricula of HCPs. Based on all evidence provided, this review provided new insights and guides for future research on this area. There is a clear need for robust research to investigate new emerging SM platforms, the efficiency of guidelines and educational interventions, and the specifics of each profession regarding their SM potential and usage. With the explosive growth of the World Wide Web and the rise of social media, new approaches in Music Recommendation evolve. The current study investigates how blogs and micro-blogs can improve the perceived quality of music recommendation. A literature review and expert interviews are conducted to identify important topics regarding (micro-) blogs and Music Recommendation. Subsequently, the prototype Songdice is built and tested in a user-evaluation. Songdice uses music blogs to recommend songs and rationalize those recommendations. The authors' results show that (micro-) blogs can improve the perceived quality of recommendations by creating trust, using personalization and exploiting the quality of music in the long tail. Additional research is required to determine the most effective way to use information from blogs and micro-blogs. The authors' research explores a new area in music recommendation literature and provides a starting point for further research concerning the combination of (micro-) blogs and music recommendation.

To examine the quality of rhythmic improvisations after learning Ugandan folksongs via notated or aural/oral means, we asked university music majors ( N = 32) to practice two Ugandan folksongs via Western notation or while viewing a prerecorded video of an expert Ugandan performer singing the same song to mimic aural/oral tradition conditions. Subsequently participants heard an authentic performance of the song they had just learned and were asked to create a rhythmic accompaniment to that song. All conditions were counterbalanced by treatment and by song. Resulting improvisations were judged regarding whether the first was better than the second. Results indicated no significant difference between improvisations on the basis of how the song was learned ( p = 0.2617), differences between the songs themselves ( p = 0.1261) or the order of the songs ( p = 0.7518). Participants improvised better when the song was learned under notation conditions (differences not significant), but 70.1% of participants preferred to learn the song via aural/oral means ( p = 0.0041). Results are discussed in terms of challenges in assessment of improvisations and pedagogical implications for future research.

Despite widespread popular use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies, a rigorous evidence based on the efficacy of compound kushen injection (CKI) for cancer-related pain is lacking. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of compound kushen injection and provided information for current or future research and clinical application. Sixteen trials were identified with a total of 1564 patients. The total pain relief rate of CKI plus chemotherapy is better than chemotherapy except for colorectal cancer. The treatment groups achieved a reduction in the incidences of leukopenia and gastrointestinal, hepatic, and renal functional lesion. However, there is paucity of multi-institutional RCTs evaluating compound kushen injection for cancer pain with adequate power, duration, and sham control. The quantity and quality of RCTs are lower so that we still have to boost the research level through scientific design and normative report.

Abstract: The way politicians communicate with the electorateand run electoral campaigns was reshaped by the emergence and popularization of contemporary social media (SM), such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram social networks (SN). Due to inherent capabilities of SM, such as the large amount of available data accessed in real time, a new research subject has emerged, focusing on using SM data to predict election outcomes. Despite many studies conducted in the last decade, results are very controversial, and many times challenged. In this context, this work aims to investigate and summarize how research on predicting elections based on SM data has evolved since its beginning, to outline the state of both the art and the practice, and to identify research opportunities within this field. In termsof method, we performed a systematic literature review analyzingthe quantity and quality of publications, the electoral context of studies, the main approaches to and characteristics of the successful studies, as well as their main strengths and challenges, and compared our results with previous reviews. We identified and analyzed 83 relevant studies, and the challenges were identified in many areas such as process, sampling, modeling, performance evaluation and scientific rigor. Main findings include the low success of the most-used approach, namely volume and sentiment analysis on Twitter, and the better results with new approaches, such as regression methods trained with traditional polls. Finally, a vision of future research on integrating advances on process definitions, modeling, and evaluation is also discussed, pointing out, among others, the need for better investigating the application of state-of-art machine learning approaches.
