Background: Pharmacists require effective communication skills to enhance involvement in patient care. Nevertheless, there are few qualitative studies exploring “how” pharmacist–patient communication occurs and none targets patients with cancer. Objective: To describe the perceptions of outpatients with prostate cancer regarding the communication process during clinical pharmacy service in a community pharmacy. Methods: A qualitative study was performed from semistructured interviews with 10 patients. These interviews were audiotape-recorded and transcribed comprehensively, and the data were analyzed using content analysis. The validation of the categories and registration units was made by 2 independent authors and reviewed by a third author. Results: Three categories were established from the content analysis (general perceptions of the pharmacist–patient communication, potentialities of effective communication, and points for improvement). Communication is a complex process and involves, in addition to information exchange, the sharing of thoughts, desires, and fears. Our findings hold that effective communication skills by pharmacist can help patients validate their concerns, develop a trusting patient–pharmacist relationship, address drug therapy problems, and lead to better health outcomes. Conclusion: Pharmacist–patient communication is an important strategy for humanized practice. This allows the pharmacist to see beyond an individual with health problems to a human being with particularized needs.

Abstract Communication is a process of sharing information through speech, writing, gestures or symbols between two or more people. The focus of the present paper is oral communication and the language under consideration is English. The teacher should adopt a student centered approach. The learners should be encouraged to do things in the class which result in developing their communication skills. The trainer has to focus on both the linguistic and paralinguistic features of the communication process while enhancing learners’ communication skills. These features involve the effective use of words, forming grammatically intelligible sentences and an appropriate use of voice and intonation. The teacher should encourage and train his students to use positive body language while listening and speaking. In order to hone the communication skills of the learners, it is very important to make the learners comfortable with the language they have to communicate in. Shedding their inhibitions is also one of the pivotal areas of concerns. This paper explores different techniques that could be useful while training students in communication skills. Communication is a process of sharing information through speech, writing, gestures or symbols between two or more people. The focus of the present paper is oral communication and the language under consideration is English. The major elements of a communication process are sender, receiver, message and feedback. Effective communication is a two way process. It involves both expressive (speaking) skills and receptive (listening) skills. It entails receiver’s understanding of the message sent by the sender and his feedback to the sender. Listening plays a very important role in the language learning process. It is the most primary of the four basic skills of any language i.e. Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Listening paves way for speaking. One can never be a good speaker if one is not a good listener. An effective communicator is first a good listener and then a good speaker. According to Tickoo ( 2003 ), ‘Good listening skills not only lay the foundations of good speech, but they grow best through effective communication’.

Abstract: This study discussed the themes of multimedia proselytising on Facebook used by Makassar's preachers as well as the usage of various forms of multimedia to convey messages to audiences (mad'u) through the Facebook social network. This research was a qualitative study using a content analysis approach. The results of the study stated that the themes conveyed by the preachers were aqidah (faith), sharia (Islamic law), akhlak (manner) morals, mu'amalah (dealings between people), and general messages, such as education, behaviour, and defending the country. While the forms of multimedia proselytising used by da'i (Islamic preachers) were the textual message, images, audio, and video. In addition, da'i needed to improve the quality of material and media da'wa by using information technology through internet media in order to get effective communication (da'wah).

The strength of a teacher in teaching is heavily influenced by the effective communication practiced by Dikelas-kelas. Learners are so cool with every word and story that the teacher developed. They are as stunted in the strains of beautiful melodies that splash. While this is the teaching of the teacher, the learners have the convenience of capturing it. Effective communication is very important for the learning process, because as a process where the existence of students with diverse cultures, family background and differences of viewpoints and self-stability are still vulnerable will determine The success of communication itself. The success of communication in the teaching and learning process is not only determined by the teachers but also the mental readiness condition in the teaching-learning process, as well as will be supported by environmental conditioning and Management of the school itself. There is a wide range of breakthroughs in improving communication skills for BK teachers, because BK teachers have the duties, responsibilities, and authority in the implementation of tutoring and counseling services for learners. Related to the student's self-development that suits the needs, potential, talents, interests, and personality of students at school/Madrasah.To improve students ' learning performance, BK teachers are required to create a conducive situation and encourage students to learn more optimally both in independent learning and in class learning with enthusiasm. In order to learn to teach more communicative, there is also necessary proximity between master BK and students as an effort to establish a trust between the two. As a manifestation and concern for the communication process that occurred in the school between the BK teachers and high school students in Depok, then the STIAMI Institute conducts effective communication training for the teachers of BK SMA. With the aim of building and improving the communication skills of master BK to support the process of teaching more effectively through communication. The target audience of this dedication is the teachers of BK SMA in Depok. The cost of devotion is obtained from the Department of Communication in the STIAMI Institute in 2015. The event was held on 20 December 2016 at the STIAMI II campus on JL. Arif Rahman Hakim No. 3 Beji Depok, followed by 50 teachers of BK SMA. From the results of the evaluation of the results and benefits of this dedication activities include improving the communication skills of the BK SMA teachers in understanding students in the face of the learning process according to their age and "kinship". The participants were enthusiastic and actively participated in this training activity. This training is to be done on a wider target and the material can be developed on teachers other than BK teachers. Thus, it is hoped that someday help BK teachers and other teachers to develop and improve the quality of Communication to the students, so that the quality of learning is increased because it has awakened trust between teachers and students in the area of Depok.

The importance of effective communication skills in the workplace is widely documented and recognized as a success factor in many fields of endeavor.  As the workplace becomes more diverse and more global in nature, the ability to communicate across cultures is gaining in importance.  A class exercise in which Panamanian educators and US students cross-interviewed each other is discussed with regard to its perceived impact on the communication process and on its ability to enlighten students on shopping behaviors of persons from another culture.

Background: Establishing appropriate communication with cancer patients is necessary to make decisions for them and involve them in the care process to prevent the adverse consequences of cancer treatment. Thus, the qualitative study on the challenges experienced by oncology nurses can lead to a better understanding of these challenges and help these nurses acquire advanced communication skills. Objectives: This study was conducted to explain the communication challenges experienced by oncology nurses during providing care to cancer patients by applying a qualitative content analysis approach. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted with the participation of 18 nurses who were selected by the purposive sampling method, working in the oncology departments of Iran’s hospitals in 2021. Semi-structured interviews were held for data collection. After transcribing the interviews, data analysis was performed using the Granheim and Landman (2004) method. The MAXQDA software (2020) was used for data management. The criteria proposed by Lincoln and Guba were used to assure data accuracy and reliability. Results: Thirty subcategories, eight categories, and four themes were extracted following data analysis. The themes included the nurse’s close relationship with cancer patients as a double-edged sword, curvy and sinusoidal professional communication for oncology nurses, relationship with an opposite-gender patient as a missing factor in nursing care, and marginalization of relationships during the coronavirus pandemic. Conclusions: Nurses’ challenges in communicating with cancer patients can be reduced by improving their communication skills via various strategies, including empowering nurses by employing cognitive empathy and using communication models such as the Comfort model.

The infotainment is a key piece for political communication and the candidates tour the television sets showing their communication skills. Television entertainment programs such as Antena 3's El Hormiguero have taken advantage of this situation to develop a series of electoral interviews with the candidates for the presidency of the Government of Spain. This article will analyze these programs that have been broadcast during the electoral campaigns held between 2015 and 2019, both from their content and their structure. To carry out this research, the models framed in the quantitative paradigm have been used, focusing on descriptive questions from the content analysis adding the qualitative study of them. The programs that have been carried out in the electoral periods have maintained an identical structure in the interviews broadcast in each campaign prior to the elections so that all candidates were on an equal footing on issues related to current hot topics.

BACKGROUND COVID-19 thrust both patients and clinicians to use telemedicine in place of traditional in person visits. Pre-pandemic, limited research had examined clinician-patient communication in telemedicine visits. The shift to telemedicine in oncology, or teleoncology, has placed attention on how the technology can be utilized to provide care for patients with cancer. OBJECTIVE Our objective was to describe oncology clinicians’ experiences with teleoncology and to uncover its benefits and challenges during the first 10 months of the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS In-depth, semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with oncology clinicians. Using an inductive, thematic approach, the most prevalent themes were identified. RESULTS Twenty-one interviews with oncology clinicians revealed the following themes: Benefits of teleoncology, such as 1) reducing patients’ travel time and expenses, 2) limiting COVID-19 exposure, and 3) enabling clinicians to “see” a patients’ lifestyle and environment. Challenges included, 1) technological connection difficulties, 2) inability to physically examine patients and 3) patients’ frustration related to clinicians being late to teleoncology appointments. CONCLUSIONS Teleoncology has many benefits and is well-suited for specific types of appointments. Challenges could be addressed through improved communication when scheduling appointments to make patients aware about what to expect. Ensuring patients have the proper technology to participate in teleoncology and an understanding about how it functions is necessary.

ABSTRACTObjective:During the course of their disease, patients with cancer receiving palliative chemotherapy receive extensive amounts of information from physicians. The objective of our study was to describe patients' perspectives on the information they received from physicians during palliative chemotherapy with regard to their cancer diagnosis, treatments, prognosis, and future planning.Method:A total of 15 semistructured face-to-face interviews with patients who had incurable cancer were conducted, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed with qualitative content analysis.Results:Three categories were defined during the analytical process: “having a chronic disease,” “depending on chemotherapy,” and “living with an unpredictable future.”Significance of results:Our study demonstrated that patients undergoing palliative chemotherapy perceived that their disease was incurable and chronic, that they were dependent on chemotherapy, and that their future was uncertain. Compared with other studies, the patients in our study seemed to be more aware of their prognosis and the goals of care.

Nurses with effective communication skills play a critical role in minimising the stress associated with hospitalisation for both patients and their families. Effective communication has become increasingly reported as a key component in effective health care outcomes, which is even more crucial in countries such as Saudi Arabia with a large foreign healthcare workforce. The presence of a large expatriate workforce with a different language from the host society and the ensuing complexity of sociocultural linguistic and heath beliefs systems has been poorly researched. This study aimed to investigate barriers and facilitators of nurse-patient communication in Saudi Arabia using the Nurses’ Self-Administered Communication Survey. The survey was distributed to a random sample of 291 nurses working in medical and surgical departments at five hospitals in Saudi Arabia. The results indicate that the Philippine and Saudi Arabian nurses perceived greater barriers to communication with respect to personal/social characteristics, job specifications and environmental factors then nurses of other nationalities. In addition, nurses with shorter experience in Saudi Arabia perceived greater barriers to communication with respect to the clinical situation of patient and environmental factors than the nurses with longer experience. Lastly, nurses who had not attended specialist courses on communication skills acquisition perceived greater barriers to communication with respect to personal characteristics and job specifications than nurses who had attended such courses. This study highlights the need to better prepare expatriate nurses before they enter the workforce in Saudi Arabia on cultural competence and language skills.

Effective communication skill applied by doctors in the doctor-patient consultation process becomes one of important factors that can improve the consultation outcomes such as patient satisfaction, adherence to treatment and recovery process. However, effective doctor-patient communication is rarely applied in practice. Limited consultation time, patient overload, doctor burnout, and poor communication skills are among the factors that cause ineffective doctor-patient communication process. This study aimed to develop a new effective communication guideline for doctor-patient communication in Indonesia by modifying the Calgary Cambridge medical interview guide. This study uses qualitative approach within four stages: expert panel, student panel and focus group discussion, expert review, and trials. Informants were chosen purposively. Three points of high category, 24 points of middle category and 44 points of low category are resulted from expert panel stage which consists of specialist representatives from 12 clinical divisions in Dr. Moehammad Hoesin central public hospital (RSMH), Palembang, South Sumatera, Indonesia. The high and middle category were discussed by two groups of internships doctors in RSMH in student panel and focus group discussion (FGD) session. The results were validated by a doctor-patient communication expert (expert reviewer) and then tested by the internship doctors through role play at the trial stage. The final result yields eight main points and eleven effective tips of the Calgary Cambridge Guide checklist modification with five to six minutes effective consultation time. This modified guideline is appropriately applicable for doctor-patient communication in daily consultation in Indonesian practical, social and cultural context.
