Abstract Background As the physiotherapy profession gradually evolves into a more autonomous profession, physicians continue to play a major role in the clinical practice of physical therapists globally, particularly as a source of patient referral. Therefore, an evaluation of Nigerian physiotherapists’ (NPTs) perception of physician’s referral (PR) of patients for physiotherapy may be a critical indicator of the relationship between the two professionals in the Nigerian health sector. The objective of the study was to determine the perception of Nigerian NPTs on the PR of patients for physiotherapy and the influence of demographic characteristics on the perception. The study was an online survey involving one hundred and fifty-four respondents. The instrument for the study was an 11-item self-developed questionnaire with two domains: demographics and perception. The participants were blind respondents reached through different physiotherapists’ WhatsApp platforms in Nigeria. The responses were collated electronically after 2 months and analyzed with the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23. Results The respondents have a negative perception of the 9 out of the 11-questionnaire items that were used to test the physiotherapists’ perception of the physicians’ referral of patients for physiotherapy in Nigeria health facilities. There was no significant difference (p>0.05) across the respondents’ gender, place of employment, areas of specialization, and educational qualifications and the respondents’ perception of doctors’ referrals of patients for physiotherapy. However, there was a significant difference (p<0.05) in each of the participants’ perceptions across the respondents’ years of practice, with the participants who had less than 5 years of practice having the least score. Conclusions Nigerian physiotherapists have a negative perception of physicians’ referral of patients for physiotherapy, and the perception was only influenced by the years of practice of the respondents.

Objective: The aim of this paper was to examine the relationship between income, subjective wellbeing, and culture among people from a higher socio-economic class across the world. Rationale: Ed Diener proposed the law of diminishing marginal utility as an explanation for differences in subjective wellbeing among different income groups across different countries (Diener, Ng, &amp; Tov, Balance in life and declining marginal utility of diverse resources, 2009). Thus, people with higher incomes would experience less subjective wellbeing due to income, and culture should emerge as a significant predictor. Method: Data from this study came from another study (https://siddharthgargblog.wordpress.com/2019/07/14/love-for-money/). I used an online survey to collect data on annual income in US dollars, subjective wellbeing (WHO-5), and country of residence (Indicator of Culture). 96 responses (Indians = 24, Foreigners = 72) were entered in IBM SPSS and a regression analysis was conducted. The raw dataset used in this study can be found at https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.8869040.v1Results: ANOVA showed a significant difference (p &lt; 0.05) between Indians and foreigners on levels of subjective wellbeing. Linear regression shows the regression coefficient of culture to be significant (Beta = -.254, p = .014) but the regression coefficient of income was not found to be significant. The overall model was found to explain 8.2% of the variance in wellbeing.Conclusion: The sample of this study is too small to make any kind of generalization; it does lend a little bit of support to the idea of diminishing marginal utility of income on subjective wellbeing and provides a rationale for further research.

Physical therapists consider many factors in the treatment of patients with musculoskeletal pain. The current literature suggests expectation is an influential component of clinical outcomes related to musculoskeletal pain for which physical therapists frequently do not account. The purpose of this clinical perspective is to highlight the potential role of expectation in the clinical outcomes associated with the rehabilitation of individuals experiencing musculoskeletal pain. The discussion focuses on the definition and measurement of expectation, the relationship between expectation and outcomes related to musculoskeletal pain conditions, the mechanisms through which expectation may alter musculoskeletal pain conditions, and suggested ways in which clinicians may integrate the current literature regarding expectation into clinical practice.

Background and purpose: The concepts of work and life have the strongest and most effective relationship with individuals and society, and making a balance between them can have a direct impact on the achievement of organizational goals. The purpose of this study was to compare the relationship between quality of public life and quality dedicated to working life in the presence of the mediator role of work conflict.Materials and Methods: This applied study was conducted by implementing a descriptive-analytical method in 2017. The study population consisted of 351 working women in the health sector of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, who were selected using stratified sampling method. The survey tool was a standard questionnaire which was used to collect the data, and then the collected data was analyzed by SPSS 24 and AMOS 22.Results: The relationship between quality of public life and quality dedicated to work life in the job groups of women’s healthcare providers (P=0.0009,t=3.592), nurses and midwives' job group (P=0.009,t=2.595), and women’s technician/health expert working in health sector was significant (P=0.002, t=3.104). Whereas, there was no significant difference between the average quality of public life (P=0.117, F=1.788) and the quality dedicated to working life among the employees with different job titles (P=0.592, F=0.742). At the same time, the average of work conflicts was significantly different among different occupations (p = 0.009, F=3.152).Conclusion: The results showed that the relationship between quality of public life and the quality dedicated to work life varies from one job group to another. As a result, with proper planning aiming at increasing the quality of public life, an increase in the quality dedicated to work life and a reduction in their work conflicts can be seen.

Background: The millennial generation already composes the majority of populations across different pharmacy schools in the Philippines. The need to explore millennial students’ learning styles and its governing factors thereby become more valuable in changing and innovating instructional approaches, designs, and strategies used in their learning environment. Aims: This study aimed to generally describe the learning styles of the millennial pharmacy students from a college institution in the Philippines using the Vermunt’s Inventory of Learning Styles (ILS). Specifically, it aimed to determine the appropriate approaches in response to the students’ learning styles, and the relationship between and among the variables of the study. Method: A quasi- experimental research design was employed in this study using online survey as the method of data collection. Descriptive statistical analysis was employed to analyse the data using Microsoft Office Excel 2013 and IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences Statistics. Pearson’s correlation coefficient investigated the relationship between and among the independent and dependent variables, while t-test and one-way ANOVA tested for significant difference among groups. Results: There were 124 out of 168 students who participated in the study making the overall response rate at ~74%. The most prevalent learning style among the millennial pharmacy students enrolled in De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute, College of Pharmacy is application- directed (3.85±0.46), followed by reproduction-directed (3.81±0.45), undirected (3.73±0.49) and lastly meaning-directed (3.52±0.54). The students’ perceived grades were significantly reflected by their learning styles. Conclusion: Results of this study may be used in increased capitalising and development of the learning style profile of millennial pharmacy students to application-directed approaches. Instructional approaches, designs and strategies must cater to how students learn effectively and strategically, and consider all possible governing factors that affect learning styles of students.

Purposes: This study aimed 1) to evaluate perceived stress of a cohort of bachelor physical therapy (PT) students from Ariel University in Israel across three clinical practice periods; 2) to evaluate the relationship between perceived stress and academic achievements; 3) to evaluate the relationship between students' perceived stress and clinical practice periods' order and content; and 4) to identify clinical and socio-demographic variables related to perceived stress. Methods: A longitudinal study was conducted among a cohort of undergraduate PT students during their first, second, and third clinical practice assignments. Data were collected using an online questionnaire. The Perceived Stress Scale 10 (PSS) and the Scale for Assessing Academic Stress (SAAS) were used to evaluate perceived stress. A ten-degree Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was used to evaluate perceived difficulty. Students' grade point averages from the first three years of study were considered academic achievements. An ANOVA was used to evaluate the relationship between perceived stress and academic achievements, and between clinical practice order and area and the socio-demographic characteristics. Results: A total of 39 undergraduate physical therapy students participated in the study. The degrees of PSS and SAAS were higher than those reported previously in undergraduate PT students. Perceived stress was not related to academic achievement, clinical practice order or area, or to socio-demographic characteristics. Conclusions: Participation in clinical practice in general might be a stressful situation, but no specific clinical or socio-demographic factors that might be a source of higher levels of perceived stress were identified. As undergraduate students are away from the campus during clinical practice periods, it is suggested that clinical instructors, who are in daily contact with the students, should receive guidance regarding the ways to identify individuals who present signs of increased stress and the types of strategies that can help students cope with stress in real time.

The main purpose of this study is to identify the students’ understanding of e-learning and their readiness for self-directed learning. A total of 306 Diploma level students of a various program from three faculties at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Pahang Raub Campus have been surveyed. The data were obtained through questionnaires distributed and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23. The findings show that the respondents’ level of understanding of the concept and their responsibility on e-learning is high while their readiness for self-directed learning is low. The correlation test results show that there is a significant positive relationship between the respondents’ level of understanding to e-learning and their willingness for self-directed learning but the correlation is weak. The findings also showed that the respondents’ level of education and study grade have a significant difference in their readiness for self-directed learning.

After the COVID-19 outbreak, the health status of the general population has suffered a huge threat, and the health system has also encountered great challenges. As critical members of human capital in the health sector, medical students with specialized knowledge and skills have positively fought against the epidemic by providing volunteer services that boosted the resilience of the health system. Although volunteer behavior (VB) is associated with individual internal motivation, there is sparse evidence on this relationship among medical students, especially regarding potential mechanisms. Therefore, this study had two main objectives: (1) to examine the influence of prosocial motivation (PM) of medical students on their VB; and (2) to verify the chain-mediating role of calling and vocation (CV) as well as social responsibility (SR) in the relationship between PM and VB. Study I: a total of 2454 Chinese full-time medical students were invited to complete an online survey. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression analysis. The results demonstrated that PM significantly affected VB in medical students (β = 0.098, P &lt; 0.001); CV as well as SR chain-mediated the relationship between PM and VB (β = 0.084, P &lt; 0.001). PM promoted the formation of SR by positively evoking CV of medical students, further resulting in increased VB. Study II: A 28 person qualitative interview was conducted. Qualitative data are added to reduce the limitations of online questionnaires. At the same time, we can also critically study the VB of Chinese medical students during COVID-19. The results showed that there were various reasons for medical students to volunteer in the process of fighting against COVID-19, and the experience of volunteer service and the impact on their future life were different. Lastly, the current findings suggest that fostering volunteerism among medical students requires the joint effort of the government, non-profit organizations, and medical colleges.

Abstract Objectives Motion analysis is performed by physical therapists to assess and improve movement. Two-dimensional video-based motion analysis (VBMA) is available for smartphones/tablets and requires little to no equipment or cost. Research on VBMA use in clinical practice is limited. The purpose of this study was to examine the current use of VBMA in orthopedic physical therapist practice. Methods Members of the Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy completed an online survey. Questions examined frequency of VBMA use, reasons for use, facilitators/barriers, device/apps used, practice patterns, other certificates/degrees, and demographic information. Results Among the final analysis sample of 477 respondents, 228 (47.8%) use VBMA. Of 228 VBMA users, 91.2% reported using it for ≤25% of their caseload, and 57.9% reported using their personal device to capture movement. Reasons for using VBMA included visual feedback for patient education (91.7%), analysis of movement (91.2%), and assessment of progress (51.8%). Barriers to use included lack of device/equipment (48.8%), lack of space (48.6%), and time restraint (32.1%). Those with ≤20 years of clinical experience (odds ratio [OR] = 1.83, 95% CI = 1.21–2.76), residency training (OR = 2.49, 95% CI = 1.14–5.43), and fellowship training (OR = 2.97, 95% CI = 1.32–6.66), and those from the West region of the United States (OR = 1.66, 95% CI = 1.07–2.56) were more likely to use VBMA. Conclusions More than 50% of surveyed orthopedic physical therapists do not use VBMA in clinical practice. Future research should be directed toward assessing reliability and validity of VBMA use by smartphones, tablets, and apps and examining whether VBMA use enhances treatment outcomes. Data security, patient confidentiality, and integration into the electronic medical record should be addressed. Impact This study is the first to our knowledge to describe the use of VBMA in orthopedic physical therapist practice in the United States. It is the first step in understanding how VBMA is used and might be used to enhance clinical assessment and treatment outcomes.

Background and Aims: In previous correlational research, the relationship between gaming disorder (GD), compensation motivation, game flow, time spent gaming, and fear of missing out (FoMO) has been examined. However, network analysis has rarely been applied to explore the relationship between GD, self-compensation motivation, game flow, time spent gaming, and FoMO. Therefore, the present study used network analysis to examine the relationship between the aforementioned variables among a sample of gamers.Methods: The present study comprised gamers (N = 1,635) recruited from three Chinese universities, who completed an online survey including the Gaming Disorder Test, Self-Compensation Motivation Questionnaire, Game Flow Questionnaire, and Trait-State Fear of Missing Out Scale, as well as four items related to time spent gaming.Results: Self-compensation motivation, game flow, time spent gaming, and FoMO were all significantly and positively associated with GD. In the domain-level and facet-level networks, weekday gaming hours and weekend gaming hours had the strongest edge intensity. The domain-level, facet-level, and item-level networks analysis also showed that GD was connected with self-compensation motivation, game flow, time spent gaming, and FoMO. The network structure demonstrated a significant difference between males and females (2.33 vs. 2.81, p = 0.001) using the domain-level network comparison test (NCT).Conclusions: The results suggest that GD is closely associated with self-compensation motivation, game flow, time spent gaming, and FoMO. FoMO and gaming motivation (i.e., self-compensation and game flow) may increase time spent gaming and facilitate GD. Therefore, interventions that decrease game immersion and time spent gaming are likely to decrease GD.


Mammography is a difficult technique, but there is no phantom for education. Therefore, we analyze the need and necessity to produce the phantom that meets the training needs. Data collection was performed by 199 independent radiological technologists in the breast and breast clinic of six hospitals except Jeju Island. The independent t-test and one-way ANOVA were conducted to determine the relationship between the demographic characteristics of the radiologist and the mothers' Duncan was used for statistical analysis. There was no statistically significant difference in perception and attitude according to demographic and statistical characteristics. Attitudes and attitudes according to job characteristics were influenced only by working style, by mammography education, and by education need. The results of the questionnaire showed that the education conditions of most mammography radiologists were difficult and the training of mammography was necessary
