Published scientific literature contains millions of figures, including information about the results obtained from different scientific experiments e.g. PCR-ELISA data, microarray analysis, gel electrophoresis, mass spectrometry data, DNA/RNA sequencing, diagnostic imaging (CT/MRI and ultrasound scans), and medicinal imaging like electroencephalography (EEG), magnetoencephalography (MEG), echocardiography  (ECG), positron-emission tomography (PET) images. The importance of biomedical figures has been widely recognized in scientific and medicine communities, as they play a vital role in providing major original data, experimental and computational results in concise form. One major challenge for implementing a system for scientific literature analysis is extracting and analyzing text and figures from published PDF files by physical and logical document analysis. Here we present a product line architecture based bioinformatics tool ‘Mining Scientific Literature (MSL)’, which supports the extraction of text and images by interpreting all kinds of published PDF files using advanced data mining and image processing techniques. It provides modules for the marginalization of extracted text based on different coordinates and keywords, visualization of extracted figures and extraction of embedded text from all kinds of biological and biomedical figures using applied Optimal Character Recognition (OCR). Moreover, for further analysis and usage, it generates the system’s output in different formats including text, PDF, XML and images files. Hence, MSL is an easy to install and use analysis tool to interpret published scientific literature in PDF format.

Digital elevation model (DEM) plays a vital role in hydrological modelling and environmental studies. Many essential layers can be extracted from this land surface information, including slope, aspect, rivers, and curvature. Therefore, DEM quality and accuracy will affect the extracted features and the whole process of modeling. Despite freely available DEMs from various sources, many researchers generate this information for their areas from various observations. Sentinal-1 synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images are among the best Earth observations for DEM generation thanks to their availabilities, high-resolution, and C-band sensitivity to surface structure. This paper presents a comparative study, from a hydrological point of view, on the quality and reliability of the DEMs generated from Sentinel-1 data and DEMs from other sources such as AIRSAR, ALOS-PALSAR, TanDEM-X, and SRTM. To this end, pair of Sentinel-1 data were acquired and processed using the SAR interferometry technique to produce a DEM for two different study areas of a part of the Cameron Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia, a part of Sanandaj, Iran. Based on the estimated linear regression and standard errors, generating DEM from Sentinel-1 did not yield promising results. The river streams for all DEMs were extracted using geospatial analysis tool in a geographic information system (GIS) environment. The results indicated that because of the higher spatial resolution (compared to SRTM and TanDEM-X), more stream orders were delineated from AIRSAR and Sentinel-1 DEMs. Due to the shorter perpendicular baseline, the phase decorrelation in the created DEM resulted in a lot of noise. At the same time, results from ground control points (GCPs) showed that the created DEM from Sentinel-1 is not promising. Therefore, other DEMs’ performance, such as 90-meters’ TanDEM-X and 30-meters’ SRTM, are better than Sentinel-1 DEM (with a better spatial resolution).

The world is facing a number of challenges related to food consumption. These are, on the one hand, health effects and, on the other hand, the environmental impact of food production. Radical changes are needed to achieve a sustainable and healthy food production and consumption. Public and institutional meals play a vital role in promoting health and sustainability, since they are responsible for a significant part of food consumption, as well as their “normative influence” on peoples’ food habits. The aim of this paper is to provide an explorative review of the scientific literature, focusing on European research including both concepts of health and sustainability in studies of public meals. Of >3000 papers, 20 were found to satisfy these criteria and were thus included in the review. The results showed that schools and hospitals are the most dominant arenas where both health and sustainability have been addressed. Three different approaches in combining health and sustainability have been found, these are: “Health as embracing sustainability”, “Sustainability as embracing health” and “Health and sustainability as separate concepts”. However, a clear motivation for addressing both health and sustainability is most often missing.

The wheel of a vehicle plays a vital role to bear the load applies on it. Generally spokes acts as the supports between the wheel rim and hub. These spokes must have sufficient strength and stiffness to avoid the failure of the wheel. In present days these wheels are made up of aluminum alloy, magnesium alloy and steel. To reduce the weight of the wheel many wheel designs are implemented and applied for different vehicles. In this paper three different wheel designs are chosen, those are inclined spokes, curved spokes and Y shaped spokes made up of Al alloy, Mg alloy and Steel. Static structural analysis subjected to pressure on the wheel rim and free vibrational analyses are performed by using finite element analysis tool Ansys 12. The objective of the present work is to observe the best design which contains higher structural stiffness, specific structural stiffness with lower von mises stresses under static load conditions. It is observed that curve shaped spoke designs are better in for manufacturing of wheel in both static and dynamic point of view.

Realization of high accuracies and efficiencies in South Indian character recognition systems is one of the principle goals to be attempted time after time so as to promote the usage of optical character recognition (OCR) for South Indian languages like Telugu. The process of character recognition comprises pre-processing, segmentation, feature extraction, classification and recognition. The feature extraction stage is meant for uniquely recognizing each character image for the purpose of classifying it. The selection of a feature extraction algorithm is very critical and important for any image processing application and mostly of the times it is directly proportional to the type of the image objects that we have to identify. For optical technologies like South Indian OCR, the feature extraction technique plays a very vital role in accuracy of recognition due to the huge character sets. In this work we mainly focus on evaluating the performance of various feature extraction techniques with respect to Telugu character recognition systems and analyze its efficiencies and accuracies in recognition of Telugu character set.

The studies have shown the current knowledge about the problems and prospects of safety in terms of sustainable development. The scientific research methods have been used: a content analysis of scientific literature, surveys to collect original data and statistical methods for data processing and analysis. According to the research, safety is in terms of sustainable development in business organizations. Environmental protection is assessed as the most significant component of safety in terms of sustainable development. Important are the findings based on the positive assessment of safety experts that the workers are aware of it an d that the management of the organization appreciates and supports safety in terms of sustainable development. It is especially important that the organizations appreciate the knowledge to protect and support continuous learning to improve the safety in terms of sustainable development. There is a partial connection between the dependent variables of safety in terms of sustainable development and the independent variables of a safety expert profile. Thereby, it is highly important that the safety experts with higher levels of education and more work experience give higher rating to the dependent variables of safety in terms of sustainable development. There is a connection between the dependent variables of safety in terms of sustainable development and the independent variables of the profile of organization employment of safety experts. Safety experts employed in the private ownership organizations give higher ratings to the dependent variables of safety in terms of sustainable development in their organizations than the safety experts employed in the state and public ownership organizations. It is significant that safety experts employed in organizations in Serbia give higher ratings to the dependent variables of safety in terms of sustainable development than safety experts employed in Croatia. One must recognize the need and opportunity for improvement i.e. development of safety in terms of sustainable development. Key words: safety, sustainable development.

Images play an essential function in the electronic media to share information. Nowadays, each event is going to be recorded in the arrangement of digital images. Text from the image file won't be in a format on the computer. OCR (Optical Character Recognition) for English vocabulary is well constructed. Currently, there's a requirement of OCR for Indian languages to maintain historical documents composed mainly in Indian languages to arrange publications in the library and for program form processing. OCR for the Telugu language is challenging as consonants and vowels plays a vital role in forming words along with vattus and gunithas. It may be a mixture of vowels and consonants that may form a compound character. This paper presents research on methods utilized in the OCR method for the Telugu Language until today.

Complexome profiling is an emerging 'omics approach that systematically interrogates the composition of protein complexes (the complexome) of a sample, by combining biochemical separation of native protein complexes with mass-spectrometry based quantitation proteomics. The resulting fractionation profiles hold comprehensive information on the abundance and composition of the complexome, and have a high potential for reuse by experimental and computational researchers. However, the lack of a central resource that provides access to these data, reported with adequate descriptions and an analysis tool, has limited their reuse. Therefore, we established the ComplexomE profiling DAta Resource (CEDAR, www3.cmbi.umcn.nl/cedar/), an openly accessible database for depositing and exploring mass spectrometry data from complexome profiling studies. Compatibility and reusability of the data is ensured by a standardized data and reporting format containing the "minimum information required for a complexome profiling experiment" (MIACE). The data can be accessed through a user-friendly web interface, as well as programmatically using the REST API portal. Additionally, all complexome profiles available on CEDAR can be inspected directly on the website with the profile viewer tool that allows the detection of correlated profile sand inference of potential complexes. In conclusion, CEDAR is a unique,growing and invaluable resource for the study of protein complex composition and dynamics across biological systems.


Vernacular architecture based on bioclimatic concepts was developed and used through the centuries by many civilizations across the world. Bikaner is a non-river basin settlement in the hot and dry climatic zone of India and cooling of indoor spaces is the single main agenda for habitation design as the temperature is very harsh throughout the year. The vernacular architecture of the Bikaner Haveli’s has provided a comfortable shelter against the harsh climatic conditions of the region and has survived for many decades. Physical analysis of the Haveli’s provide with substantial data on their thermally comfortable design. The indigenous approach of its inhabitants for achieving comfort in these harsh climatic conditions is an exciting study area. Acclimatization plays a vital role in the perception of thermal comfort, and the younger generation does not perceive the same situation as comfortable as their parents and the natives of the land due to behavioural change. Bikaner have many Havelis dating over 250 years old, and these are master examples of vernacular architecture built by the indigenous community in response to the geographical location, climatic condition, and emerging from their cultural needs. The objective of the research is to understand indigenous cooling systems employed by the people and how they work. The process of physiological adjustment that takes place when subjected to stressful situations. The results show that the natural and passive design systems provide a comfortable indoor environment irrespective of the outdoor climatic variation. Is it more useful to re-introduces the native ways of lifestyle practices rather than adapting to global ways of living. In the paper, an attempt to bring forth the climate responsiveness, appropriateness and the adaptive lifestyle of the inhabitants of the vernacular Havelis of Bikaner.
