It has often been criticized that Learners’ Dictionaries lack a theoretical basis in linguistic theory. Prototype semantics are able to provide a solution to this problem in the context of cognitive linguistics. This article proposes a new approach to pedagogical lexicography based on the fundamental ideas of prototype semantics. In the framework of a culture-based dictionary for German as a Foreign Language (Kulturwörterbuch Deutsch als Fremdsprache), which is implemented as a students’ project at the department for German as a Foreign Language of TU Berlin, the model of a prototype-based semantic explanation is presented.

Training in foreign languages occupation is very fascinating and very responsible. The modern times demand from teachers of new approach to this problem. The significant role when training in foreign languages, in particular, in English, belongs to use of educational games or game exercises. The aim of this paper is to study different time representations in language and text. Time is an abstract category firmly connected to human life, it can be considered to be the fourth dimension of reality, used to describe events in three-dimensional space. Time has been studied from different points of view and in different aspects. The perception of time can vary depending on the social and cultural environment. That is why it is so important to pay special attention to a variety of time representations when studying a foreign language. In this article I consider different time markers represented in language (English and Russian) and contextual time markers we can find in texts for reading comprehension activities at advanced levels when studying Russian as a foreign language. I compare language and contextual time markers using a cognitive approach to text units. As an example, I take time markers from the texts published in a popular Russian literary magazine Novy mir at the turn of the 21 century. Novy mir is a very famous in Russia for its liberal position and history within the dissident movement during Soviet epoch Keywords: concept of time, time markers, text and discourse, cognitive linguistics

The purpose of this chapter is to introduce a new approach for an assessment of the credit risks. The initial part of the chapter is to briefly discuss the existing models of assessment of the credit risks and justify the need for a new approach. Since a new approach is created for conditions of uncertainty, we cannot do without fuzzy mathematics. The proposed approach is based on group decision-making, where experts’ opinions are expressed by trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. The theoretical basis of the offered approach is laid out in the metric space of trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. The new approach is introduced and discussed, and two realization algorithms are given. The toy example of application of the introduced approach is offered as well.

The article deals with semantics of English folk fairytales. Conceptual analysis is considered to be a new approach to the learning of folk fairytales. This analysis is performed in terms of cognitive linguistics which deals with structures of knowledge representation, which form language signs and speech patterns. The purpose of the investigation is to identify the patterns of structuring of mental representations which form conceptual (psychological) space of folk fairytale texts. They are considered to be the main prerequisite for both the folk fairytale formation and its understanding. While investigating the folk fairytale texts we have used the frame approach for modeling the conceptual space of a folk fairytale as a sign which is characterized by certain semantics .Our investigation develops Propp’s ideas and is connected with conceptual (cognitive) semantics Nowadays formal apparatus for modeling verbalized knowledge is developed within this field of science.

Reliable and accurate predictions on future states of production systems are the objective of production theories. In this paper, the authors determined shortcomings of current deterministic models and traced them back to the poor theoretical basis of scientific research in the area. The observations resulted in the development of the conceptScientific Management 2.0as an appropriate research methodology for production management. This new empirical approach takes into account three requirements to scientifically precise investigations: It expands existing theory by socio-technical aspects, uses embedded experiments as a profound basis for investigation and provides a design that warrants the methodical exactness required. RWTH Aachen’sDemonstration Factoryrepresents an adequate infrastructure to prove feasibility and performance of the new approach.

The article discusses complexity of syncretic-character relationships between the constituents of noun phrases with prepositional postmodification in Russian language, considering their contradictory interpretations in Russian grammar guides’ analysis when applied in Russian-as-a-foreign-language teaching. The experience with beginners and pre-intermediate learners of different ages indicates the practical necessity of analyzing such units regarding their multi-aspect syntactic potential, which is often incompletely treated by contemporary linguistic theory instructions.
