A new asexual fungus, Fusiconidium indicum, found growing on dried leaves of Mesua ferrea collected from a botanical garden in Meghalaya, India, is described and illustrated. The fungus is characterized by polyblastic, sympodial conidiogenous cells that are integrated and terminal as well as intercalary with solitary, dry, acropleurogenous, simple, ellipsoidal conidia which are formed as blown-out ends, initially with a very narrow isthmus between the conidiophore apex and young conidium. Based on combined ITS and LSU sequences data analyses, our isolate shows close affinities to the genus Fusiconidium placed in the family Melanommataceae of Pleosporales.

Tes Urszula, Human on fire as a gesture of self-offering in Polish documentary films “Images” vol. XXV, no. 34. Poznań 2019. Adam Mickiewicz University Press. Pp. 172–179. ISSN 1731-450X. DOI 10.14746/i.2019.34.12. One of strongest acts of personal protest in the communist era was self-immolation, which was the subject of two Polish documentaries. Maciej Drygas in Hear My Cry invoked the figure of Ryszard Siwiec, who immolated himself on September 8, 1968 as a sign of protest against the Soviet army invasion of Czechoslovakia. In his documentary, Drygas shows a fragment of the film with the burning man, juxtaposing it with the testimony of witnesses to the tragedy and the account of the family. This documentary restores the memory of the whole society, who due solely to the film, learned about the radical gesture of a common man. Holy Fire by Jarosław Mańka and Maciej Grabysa in turn invokes the heroic but forgotten Walenty Badylak, who immolated himself in March of 1980 in Cracow as an expression of his objection to distortion of the truth about Katyń. Both acts of self-immolation had for many years been perceived as totally futile acts, while the directors show that the self-immolation of these now has a deep and symbolic meaning. In my analysis, I shall invoke historic and cultural contexts, conduct a multifaceted interpretation of self-immolation act and discuss the complex imagery included in the films.

The results of the study of biomorphological features of species of the family Haloragaceae are presented. The Haloragaceae family includes 9 genera and about 130 species. Their distribution in natural conditions is discussed. Introduced family members are represented by three genera and six species. By its biomorphological feature they are perennial, rarely annual coastal-aquatic, marshy, aquatic, herbaceous plants. The life form – aerohydatophytes, hemicryptophytes. Native species of the genus Myriophyllum live in fresh, slow-flowing, almost stagnant reservoirs, and several species reach the coastal habitats. They are very sensitive to water temperature and less to light. The most common type of pollination is anemophily (with wind), entomophily (insect pollination) and autogamy (self-pollination) are also observed (very rare). There are individual populations that have the entire sterile flowers. For the members of the genus vegetative reproductions – with stems and turions, are peculiar. There is a clear correlation between the generative and vegetative reproduction of representatives of the genus Myriophyllum, which is related to the peculiarity of reproduction, the less seeds are formed in plants, the more turions are formed. When growing the representatives of the genus Myriophyllum, it is impossible to plant them at the depth at once. First they are kept in flooded areas of the shore, then, gradually, transferred to deeper sections of the reservoir. Myriophyllum thicket play a very important role in the life of freshwater reservoirs: they have the largest concentration of small invertebrates, which are the main food for the inhabitants of the reservoir, fish deposit the eggs on leaves, and later the fry hide there. Plants of the genus Myriophyllum have important fodder value, they are collected for fattening the waterbirds and fish, and also used as silage. The possibilities of their use in the conditions of introduction of open and protected soil are presented. Care and breeding methods have been developed in the moderate zone of Ukraine. Abstract The family Malvaceae includes about 243 genera and at least 4 225 species of herbs, shrubs and trees. They are widely varied and include several important crops, which are mainly used as sources of fibre, food and beverages, medicines, timber. The species of the family Malvaceae: annual, Malva crispa and Malva meluca, native to East Asia, and perennial, Sida hermaphrodita, from North America, grown in monoculture in the experimental land of the Botanical Garden (Institute), served as subjects of the research, and the traditional crop Medicago sativa was used as control. The importance of the studied species of the family Malvaceae consists in their very rapid emergence and fast growth. The analysis of the chemical composition suggested that the dry matter of the studied species, at the 1st mowing contained 15.67-21.67 % raw protein, 2.15-4.46 % raw fats, 8.35-11.53 % minerals and 34.74-40.66 % nitrogen free extract, Medicago sativa - 17.03 %, 2.30 %, 33.31 %, 8.01 % and 39.41 % respectively, making them good candidates for use as livestock feed and for biomethane production. The nutritive value of 100 kg fresh mass of the studied Malvaceae species was 14.9-16.6 nutritive units and 153-173 MJ metabolizable energy, a nutritive unit contained 154.2-191.0 g digestible protein with high concentrations of limiting amino acids, the control - 21 nutritive units, 228 MJ and 164.3 g digestible protein, respectively. The calculated capacity of biomethane production of the studied Malvaceae species can reach 231-267 l/kg organic matter, Medicago sativa - 248 l/kg organic matter. The theoretical ethanol yield from structural carbohydrates of the dry biomass of stalks averaged 437-527 L/t in Malvaceae species, as compared to 485 L/t in corn. The best results were achieved by Sida hermaphrodita, due to its high amount of structural carbohydrates. These species may serve as feed for livestock, but also as multi-purpose feedstock for biorefinery in Moldova.

The article presents the results of the study of the reproductive biology of succulent plants of the Aloaceae family in the introduction. Representatives of the family are part of the collection of succulent plants of the O.V. Fomin Botanical Garden,which contains over 190 species, subspecies and hybrids of plants of three genera: Aloe Linne – 86, Haworthia Duval – 74, Gasteria Duval – 23 taxa. In addition, x Gasteraloe Guillaumin (Gasteria x Aloe), x Gasterhaworthia Guillaumin (Gasteria x Haworthia), x Astroworthia G.D Rowley (AstrolobaUitewaal x Haworthia). Most plant species are included in the international red lists. In the process of forming this part of the collection, the morphology of flowers, inflorescences and seeds was investigated, phenological observations of flowering and fruiting were conducted, methods of vegetative and seed reproduction of family members were developed. Phenological observations have shown that the main flowering period is the spring summer period, but Aloe under greenhouse conditions is characterized by two more peaks (August, December). We have found that, in addition to simple or complex tics, in the vast majority of species, Aloe haworthioides is characterized by inflorescences of ears; perianth shaped tubular or cylindrical, inherent in the vast majority of species and performs, in our opinion, a protective function. The flowering of a single flower takes place in three stages, providing a self-pollination effect that is characteristic of crop conditions only for certain Aloe species, and the viability of the pollen is closely related to the ambient temperature. Freshly harvested seeds obtained by self-pollination or cross-pollination have a sufficiently large germination, but if stored in any way after three months, the germination increases. We have proposed a method of increasing the viability of seeds of plants of the Aloaceae family 2.5-3 times and developed a method of vegetative propagation of representatives of the genera Haworthia and Gasteria leaf cuttings.

Objective – to define the diversity of Rosaceae representatives in parks and squares of Kryvyi Rih city and to evaluate their vitality, longevity and perspectives of further apply for landscaping of the region. Material and methods. The object of our study is plantings of representatives of the family Rosaceae in parks and squares of city of Kryvyi Rih. We used such investigation methods: visual, morphometric and statistical ones. Results. In the parks and squares of Kryvyi Rih, family Rosaceae is the most divers – it is represented by 43 species, 5 hybrids and 5 cultivars, which together belong to 20 genera. The most represented genera are Spiraea (7 taxa), Sorbus (5), Cotoneaster (4), Malus (4), Padus (4), and Prunus (4), while the rest of genera comprises from 1 to 3 taxa. The geographic analysis suggests significant prevalence of species from East-Asian (36.5 %) and Circumboreal (34.6 %) regions. According to distribution of life forms, there is some predominance of shrubs; they represent 56 % of total number of Rosaceae. With regard to height classes, trees of third class of size (34.6 %) and undersized shrubs (25 %) prevail. As for age structure, 20–40-year-old shrubs and trees (about 70 %) predominate. The highest level of vital state is noted for 60 % of plants of this family, average level – for 30 %, and low level – for 10 %. 72 % of evaluated plants were classified as highly decorative and 28 % as decorative. In future, enrichment of plantings of the region may be carried out by using the collection stock of arboreal plants of Kryvyi Rih Botanical Garden the NAS of Ukraine, comprising about 350 species, varieties and cultivars of 31 genera of the family Rosaceae. Conclusions. The most of investigated Rosaceae plants, in conditions of large industrial city located in the Steppe zone of Ukraine, were characterized by high viability and decorativeness. Hence, these plants deserve to be more widely used for greening of cities and towns of Right-Bank of the Steppe zone of Ukraine.

The species composition of the Geraniaceae family in the flora of Mongolia is revised as a result of a critical study of collections of the Herbarium of V. L. Komarov Botanical Institute RAS (LE), the D. P. Syreischikov Herbarium of Biological Faculty of Moscow State University (MW), the N. V. Tzitzin of the Main Botanical Garden (MHA), of the M. G. Popov Herbarium of Central Siberian Botanical Garden (NSK), of the I. M. Krasnoborov Herbarium of Central Siberian Botanical Garden (NS), Herbarium of the Tomsk State University (TK), Herbarium of the South Siberian Botanical Garden (ALTB), Herbarium of the Institute of General and Experimental Biology of the Academy of Sciences of Mongolia (UBA), of the Martin-Luther University Herbarium (HAL), and own gatherings. The species Geranium pamiricum Ikonn. is identified for the first time in the flora of Mongolia. The areas of some species are clarified; maps of distribution over the territory of Mongolia are given.

Bioluminescent species are those producing and emitting light by chemical reactions and using it for a wide range of functions important for survival, hunting, camouflage, mating, recognition, and communication. Studies on Lithuanian bioluminescent species biodiversity are scarce. The aim of this study was to review available information about reported and potential (found near the borders of the neighbouring countries) bioluminescent (fireflies, fungi, centipedes, springtails), and luminescent (mosses) species in Lithuania. Available sources of literature on the diversity of Lithuanian, Latvian, Polish, and Belarusian bioluminescent species were studied, and folklore and verbal evidence of seen bioluminescent species were analysed as well. All collected information was generalized and presented as a list of Lithuanian bioluminescent species. The results showed that representatives of 26 different bioluminescent and one luminescent species may glow in the dark in Lithuania depending on the season, temperature, humidity, pH and oxygen presence in their environment: two reported and one potential (immigrating from Poland and Belarus) species of fireflies; recently reported one species of bioluminescent centipedes from the family of Geophilus; one potential species of bioluminescent springtail (reported in Latvia and Poland); 21 reported species of bioluminescent fungi; one reported species of luminescent moss. Glowing must be confirmed for two fungi species mentioned in folklore, also one species is found that does not glow in Lithuania but is bioluminescent in North America. Specimens of Chlorociboria sp. and Xylaria hypoxylon found in the Botanical Garden of Vytautas Magnus University did not glow, while Armillaria mellea glowed brightly emitting green light.

Spiders are organisms that can adapt to various environments throughout the earth's surface from arctic regions to desert areas. Many spiders occupy areas with low vegetation and shrubs. The Liwa Botanical Garden has dense vegetation which is an ideal habitat for spiders. This study aims to determine the diversity and abundance of spiders (arachnids) in open and closed areas in the Liwa Botanical Garden. The research was conducted in November - December 2019. Spiders were sampled using a survey method by making line transects at predetermined locations. Sampling using sweep nets and pit traps. The spiders found were identified in the Zoology Laboratory, Biology Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Lampung, and their relative abundance was calculated. The results showed that 249 individual spiders were grouped into 9 families and 21 species. The family with the highest number of individuals was Aranidae, while the least number of families was Phalangiidae.
