While attempting to overcome the dialectic tensions existing between modern and post-modern ideas, this article analyses identity as the construction of meaning in interaction and from the personal narrative. In this regard, we stress, within the essentially dynamic condition of personality, its projective character as the «chosen personality». Personal identity is one part of personality; this is the part that we ourselves, within our individual and situational possibilities and limitations, can imagine, invent, create and choose. Our capacity to choose, to decide is evidently limited yet within this restricted ambit human liberty, something that we regard here as being our possible capacity for self-determination, is defined. As a result, and referring to the subject him or herself, we define the principle formative ambits for this possible self-determination and thence proceed to discover the educational strategies relevant to the autonomous construction of the identity.SOMMAIRE: Dans cet article, en essayant de dépasser les tensions dialectiques entre les idées modernes et postmodernes, est analysée l'identité comme construction de signifié en interaction et depuis la narration personnelle.

SummaryAileron reversal effects on swept-back wings in general and elevon reversal effects on tailless swept-back wings in particular are discussed on a non-mathematical basis, attention being confined to the orthodox flap type of control. The main purpose of the paper is to convey in the simplest terms possible a clear physical picture of the conditions producing loss of control power, emphasis being naturally laid upon the part played by structural wing distortion. Certain qualitative features relating to the two phenomena are also discussed. As a general introduction to the discussion on aileron reversal effects, the definition of “aileron power” in relation to the actual dynamic condition of rolling is described at some length. For elevon reversal effects on tailless aircraft the effect of wing flexibility on both “elevon power” and on trim in steady symmetric flight is considered. With the descriptive treatment adopted the analysis is of necessity broad and general but is designed to appeal to those not too familiar with the subject. The results of certain calculations on a hypothetical wing, which may be of interest, are included. A mathematical analysis for the quantitative estimation of both aileron and elevon reversal effects is given in the Appendix.

Drawing on theories of identity postulated by cultural theorists, scholars of gender identity, and critical race theorists, I explore issues of identity politics and “Otherness” as they pertain to Romani identity, history and activism. By critiquing the latent bifurcation of identity and subjectivity in Judith Butler’s theory of performativity as well as her explicit adherence to universalism, I begin to outline a (post-Hegelian) hermeneutic in which narratives of self enable political processes of self-determination against symbolic and epistemic systems of racialization and minoritization.[1] Roma identity both serves as an oppressive social category while at the same time empowering people for whom a shared ethnic group provides a sense of solidarity and community. In re-conceptualizing, reimagining and re-claiming Romani-ness, we can make movements towards outlining a new Romani subjectivity – a subjectivity that is firmly rooted in counterhistories of Roma, with porous boundaries that both celebrate our diversity and foster solidarity. I come to the subject of Romani identity from an understanding that our racialized and gendered identities are both performed and embodied – forming part of the horizon from which we make meaning of the world. I wish to recast the discourse surrounding Romani identity as hybridized and multicultural, as well as, following Glissant, embedded into a pluritopic notion of history.

This article reveals the issues of development and formation of communicative competence among students of an art specialty. The study revealed that an insufficient level of speech culture is typical for students of future artists and teachers. This problem is most acutely expressed by the excessive enthusiasm of students for art and visual activity with insufficient attention to the development of communication skills and a departure from professional self-determination. The purpose of the article is to identify the results of the formation of the subject communicative competence of students of art specialties in the learning process. The following methods were used in the study: theoretical (review, analysis and synthesis of literature); empirical (pedagogical observation, oral and written surveys, tests, pedagogical experiment). The study was conducted at the Institute of Arts, Culture and Sports of KazNPU named after Abai among students (17-19) years old. The data indicate that the formation of communicative competence needs pedagogical support in preparing students for professional activities. The problem of low speech culture of students, inability to communicate, express their thoughts, and sometimes vice versa, upholding the position of a human consumer negatively affects the professional development of the future artist and teacher. The analysis shows that against the background of a general drop in the level of literacy and speech culture of young people, the communicative competence of artists is an urgent problem for many specialties, including for students of pedagogical universities.

The subject of the paper is the relationship between the duties of physicians and other medical professionals towards the dying patient (as a provider of medical services) and the patient's right to personal choice and preservation of his own right to self-determination in relation to body and life, which is a special subjective civil right. The author discusses the legal-medical (but also ethical) issue of the patient's ability to freely decide not to agree to a medical measure of artificial prolongation of life or suspension of already started measures. The issue is examining the limits of the so-called permissibility of “passive euthanasia”, which is indirectly recognized in domestic law by the Law on Patients' Rights and the legal basis for its application in one particular modality, the so-called "Patient letter" (living will) which is an established legal instrument in some foreign legislation and practice. Analyzing the experience of some foreign countries, the author supports the introduction of such an institute - as a kind of anticipated directives in domestic law, referring to the patient's constitutional right to self-determination, which embodies the supreme good, even more valuable than (unwanted) life. Such a solution is in line with the principle of human will autonomy, freedom to dispose of life as a personal good, and potentially a reflection of the so-called "the right to die", which is the reverse of the right to life

The subject of this chapter represents a woman of color, courage, and consciousness who began her early childhood preparation in the segregated “colored schools” of Atlanta, Georgia in the 1920s and 1930s. Pearlie Craft (maiden name) Dove is the focus of this originally conceptualized qualitative narrative which draws its scholarly influence from ethnography, reflective biography, and historiography as well as personal narrative to posit a methodological approach described as ethno-biographical research. The selected key participant for this chapter was born in 1921. The authors constructed the methodology from selected biographical notes, conversations, interviews, and critical theory of the era in which she was educated and lived. The conceptual model describes the foundation for the use of the term Pearlie's Pearls of Wisdom as attributes that can be models for men and women who aspire to promote principles over expediency. This chapter seeks to promote the overarching professional and personal qualities exemplified by Dr. Dove from 1949-2014.

The face of war – the face of the Other: Epiphany of the visage in Die son struikel by Dolf van Niekerk Traumatic war experiences are crucial in shaping the identity of Diederik Versveld, the main character in Dolf van Niekerk’s Die son struikel (The sun stumbles). In this article I want to explore the war experience that the protagonist has to deal with, its literary adaptation, and the construction of the protagonist’s identity. I indicate that the three stages of Diederik’s development are closely connected to the concrete philosophic contents of the novel. The thought of Emmanuel Lévinas serves as my interpretative framework. Central to Diederik Versveld’s experience of war is the reduction of the subject to merely and impersonally existing, to il y a (“there is”). In my opion Lévinian concepts are useful in outlining the route to a better understanding of the protagonist’s experience of the war. In analysing the processing of the trauma of war Lévinas’ notion of the epiphany of the face of the Other can be helpful. The encounter with the Other in the faces of other people plays a crucial role in Diederik’s attempt to come to terms with his experiences of war and death. In Totalité et Infini (Lévinas, 1961:188) the French philosopher wrote: “The epiphany of the face unlocks humanity”.

Specific character of a dynamic development of economy and society place demands on new highly-qualified personnel of any sphere professional activity, especially the sphere connected with interaction with people who have modern high-tech skills. Demands’ changes on the subject of professional activity brings on a qualitative restructuring of professionalization’s process, that facilitates an integration of educational and professional spheres with a conceptional, technological and theoretical supporting. Successful professional activity depends a lot upon a successful period of early professionalization that is impossible without proper provided insights of a profession. This article shows the results of an empirical study regarding the analysis of peculiarities of professional ideas of pre-service teachers.
