Food security in households can be measured by maintaining stability and security in the availability of staple food. Covid-19 has an impact on the agricultural sector and farmers so that it affects their income, and automatically changes the availability of food in their households. The purpose of this study was to find out how Covid-19 had an impact on the food availability of rice farmers' households, and what strategies were used to survive in conditions of uncertainty. This research uses a case study approach in Aceh Province. The results of this study show contradictory responses based on the status of the farmer (agriculture as the main or secondary livelihood), and the availability of access to other sources of income affects how or not Covid-19 affects their lives. This study shows that the cultural factors of farmers who live simply and farmers of food commodities are those who are more resilient than farmers of other commodities and the lower middle class in general. The strategy in question is to sell produce with a larger proportion due to declining selling prices, take food from the harvest and rice barns also receive assistance from the government.

In particular, it examines how China’s market economy might have impacted on the status and living and working conditions of migrant teachers. The study adopts a case study approach, drawing on personal interviews with 21 school teachers in Shenzhen and Zhuhai of Guangdong Province. The findings reveal that despite China’s economic miracle, migrant teachers’ status and teaching and living conditions have not improved. On the contrary, they have deteriorated. Migrant teachers are paid less, live in poor housing conditions, and face heavy workload. Many teachers have to tutor outside of school hours or work a second job to make ends meet. Through an account of the experience of migrant teachers in China, this study contextualizes the concept of globalization by examining its impact on China through the influence of the market economy. It also reveals a number of social injustice and inequality in education which requires the Chinese government to take immediate actions to reduce and eliminate it.

The democratization of broadcasting in Indonesia is manifested in the implementation of the Network Station System (Sistem Stasiun Jaringan / SSJ) by striving for diversity of ownership and broadcast content in broadcasting institutions. SSJ is also an effort to decentralize broadcasting so that people in the regions get information related to their own regions through subsidiary networks or local broadcasting institutions. TVRI is the only public broadcasting institution that has network subsidiaries throughout Indonesia. This research uses a case study approach, an approach to intensively examine a case with a focus on TVRI Bali. Data collection used interview and observation methods. Data analysis using the Interactive Analysis approach. The results showed that TVRI Bali has not been able to fully implement SSJ. TVRI Bali can only meet the provisions of local broadcast content with a percentage of up to 20%, but has not been able to fulfill the spirit of diversity of ownership according to the basic concept of SSJ. In addition, the principle of diversity of ownership has not been fulfilled due to inconsistencies between the Broadcasting Law and Government Regulation Number 13/2005 and Ministerial Regulation 43/2009 which specifically regulates private television broadcasting institutions.

This chapter uses a case study approach to explore the political choice phase of the political communication cycle (PCC) over time. Focusing on interest groups and detailing the long history of these organizations in America, the chapter primarily examines innovations made by four of the largest interest groups in American history: AARP, the Sierra Club, the National Rifle Association (NRA), and MoveOn.org. These four interest groups have spanned multiple political communication orders (PCOs) and their overall lack of innovativeness until recent years is tied to the distinct nature of their shared political communication goals. These goals are far narrower than campaigns or social movements and therefore are much less likely to motivate innovative efforts. These trends have started to change in the internet-based era as new organizational and communication strategies have opened up interest groups to greater innovation along the lines of MoveOn.org.

This paper develops a model for the assessment of the maturity of the compliance function of investment firms. The model indicates a path of evolution wherein the compliance function matures from being reactive and inconsistent to becoming a proactive and integrated part of a firm’s business practices. A preliminary case study approach is used to test the practical application of the model in a Norwegian investment firm. The findings generally illustrate the ways in which the effectiveness of the compliance function can be evaluated using a maturity model. When it was used in the assessment of the compliance function within the case firm, the suggested model proved to be compatible with practice. The model represents an improvement framework that can help practitioners identify the status of the compliance function and provide guidance on its future improvement.
