The purpose of this work was to develop a criterion for estimating the quality factor of the tribosystem and to assess its effect on wear rate, friction coefficient and run-in time. The basis of the methodological approach when developing a criterion for the quality of the tribosystem is the parameters that take into account the construction of the tribosystem, the thermal diffusivity of materials and the loading conditions of the tribosystems. The definition of the quality of the tribosystem has been further developed, which, unlike the known one, takes into account the geometric dimensions and kinematic scheme of the tribosystem, the thermal diffusivity of materials and the rate of propagation of deformation in the surface layers of the triboelement materials during their contact interaction. Theoretical and experimental studies established the relationship between the quality value, wear rate and the friction coefficient in the process of running-in. It is shown that the increase in quality helps to reduce the above-mentioned parameters. The relationship between the running-in time and the quality value is established. It is shown that the process of running-in can be controlled. To reduce the running-in time, it is necessary to reduce the sliding speed during the transient process and to increase the tribological properties of the lubricating medium. The presented theoretical and experimental studies allow us to state that the quality of tribosystems Q can be a measure of the potential ability of the tribosystem to adapt (adapt) to operating conditions, providing the maximum resource.

The definition of the quality factor of the tribosystem has been further developed, which, unlike the known one, takes into account not only the geometric dimensions of the tribosystem, thermal diffusivity of triboelement materials, lubricating medium and deformation propagation rate in the surface layers of the material, but also the function of changing the rheological properties of the surface layers of materials during running-in and their increase during running-in. Theoretical studies have established that three parameters have the maximum effect on the quality factor: sliding speed, roughness of friction surfaces and lubricating medium. Experimental studies have established the relationship between the value of the quality factor, wear rate and coefficient of friction during steady-state operation of tribosystems. It has been shown that an increase in the figure of quality factor reduces the above parameters, and the criterion itself Qmax is a measure of the potential of the tribosystem adapt to the operating conditions.

This chapter introduces the problem of “reform capacity” (the ability of political decision-makers to adopt and implement policy changes that benefit society as a whole, by adjusting public policies to changing economic, social, and political circumstances). The chapter also reviews the long-standing discussion in political science about the relationship between political institutions and effective government. Furthermore, the chapter explains why the possibility of compensation matters greatly for the politics of reform; provides a precise definition of the concept of reform capacity; describes the book's general approach to this problem; and discusses the ethics of compensating losers from reform; and presents the book's methodological approach.

Vibration assisted nano impact-machining by loose abrasives (VANILA) is a novel nanomachining process that combines the principles of vibration assisted abrasive machining and tip-based nanomachining, to perform target specific nanoabrasive machining of hard and brittle materials. An atomic force microscope (AFM) is used as a platform in this process wherein nanoabrasives, injected in slurry between the workpiece and the vibrating AFM probe which is the tool, impact the workpiece and cause nanoscale material removal. The VANILA process are conducted such that the tool tip does not directly contact the workpiece. The level of precision and quality of the machined features in a nanomachining process is contingent on the tool wear which is inevitable. Initial experimental studies have demonstrated reduced tool wear in the VANILA process as compared to indentation process in which the tool directly contacts the workpiece surface. In this study, the tool wear rate during the VANILA process is analytically modeled considering impacts of abrasive grains on the tool tip surface. Experiments are conducted using several tools in order to validate the predictions of the theoretical model. It is seen that the model is capable of accurately predicting the tool wear rate within 10% deviation.

The paper gives an assessment of the design and energy reserves for improving the operational properties of the railway friction brake under the existing mass-dimensional restrictions and the growth of braking energy. The criterion for assessing the operational properties of the friction brake is the friction coefficient and contact energy load. The results of experimental studies of the relationship between the frictional characteristics of the disc brake and the affecting structural and loadspeed factors are presented. Design options for railway friction brakes are proposed that provide improved performance. A comparative analytical assessment of the contact energy load of new friction brake and classic disc brake options has been performed.

Cachexia is a multifactorial process of skeletal muscle and adipose tissue atrophy resulting in progressive weight loss. It is associated with poor quality of life, poor physical function, and poor prognosis in cancer patients. It involves multiple pathways: procachectic and proinflammatory signals from tumour cells, systemic inflammation in the host, and widespread metabolic changes (increased resting energy expenditure and alterations in metabolism of protein, fat, and carbohydrate). Whether it is primarily driven by the tumour or as a result of the host response to the tumour has yet to be fully elucidated. Cachexia is compounded by anorexia and the relationship between these two entities has not been clarified fully. Inconsistencies in the definition of cachexia have limited the epidemiological characterisation of the condition and there has been slow progress in identifying therapeutic agents and trialling them in the clinical setting. Understanding the complex interplay of tumour and host factors will uncover new therapeutic targets.

Introduction. When cultivating agricultural crops, it is necessary to take into account the plants’ need for moisture, nutrients, location by area of nutrition, determining illumination, etc. Taking into account the biological characteristics of crops, various methods of sowing are used to create favorable conditions for plant growth and development. An important condition for sowing is the uniform arrangement of seeds along the sulcus, especially in the cultivation of testes of small-seeded cultures. A key role in the uniformity of seeding is provided by the design parameters and kinematic operating conditions of the sowing device. Materials and Methods. To determine the optimal parameters and operating modes of the disk sowing device, methods of factor experiment and multi-criteria optimization were used. Results. Mathematical models of the technological process of sowing seeds were obtained based of experimental studies. Conclusions. To ensure the improvement of the seeding quality of small seeds, the design parameters of the experimental seeder: х4 – is the diameter of the cell; х5 – the number of cells on the disk, will tend to the maximum values. The optimum circumferential speed of the sowing disk should be in the range from 0.127 to 0.192 m/s, and the speed of the machine’s movement is no more than 2 m/s.

The article analyzes conceptual foundations, views and ideas concerning the essence of expert prevention. The relationship between the concepts of «prevention» and «prevention», which is in contact with each other, is investigated, because one of the main problems of the criminal investigation of the phenomenon of expert prevention is the ambiguity of both scientific understanding and the practical application of the corresponding conceptual-categorical apparatus. It is emphasized that the essence of expert prevention is the influence of the relevant subjects on crime through the use of special professional knowledge. That is, to the subject of forensic examination, should include studies of circumstances on the basis of which can be and should be developed scientific, organizational and technical measures of preventive nature. Proven that among the tasks of preventive nature, which can be solved by the staff of judicial-expert institutions, the development of aimed at forecasting in criminalistic aspects of circumstances contributing to the commission of crimes, taking into account the possibilities of certain types of expert research, should occupy an important place. It is proved that the preventive activities of forensic institutions of Ukraine should be carried out: in the production of examinations in specific criminal, administrative or civil cases; by summarizing expert, as well as forensic investigative practices; in the process of research on expert prevention; by providing on the basis of special knowledge of scientific and practical assistance to government agencies and public organizations in identifying circumstances conducive to the commission of crimes. In order to improve the quality of expert-preventive activities, the staff of the forensic institutions of Ukraine should pay maximum attention to the promotion of preventive activities among representatives of law enforcement and law enforcement agencies. On the basis of the analysis, the author’s definition of expert prevention is given: the activity of a forensic expert based on the laws and by-laws of normative legal acts, aimed at revealing the circumstances contributing to the commission of a crime, and the development of measures for their elimination with the use of special knowledge.
