Commom protein sources for poultry, fish meal and soybean meal, were ground to obtain reduced particle size. The particle was then dissolved in distilled water (1 : 4 w/v), and added with 2 mL virgin coconut oil for every 500 mL solution prior to ultrasound transducer (ultrasonic bath) treatment to obtain protein microparticle. Reducing particle size is one possible way to increase protein utilization.180 birds were used for forced feeding and 10 other birds were plotted for endogenous correction, when they were one month and a half old. Microparticle protein of both ingredients were tested separately in either mash or pelleted forms and compared to intact protein. Completely randomized design with 3 treatments (intact, mash, and pellet) and 6 replications (10 bidrs each) was arranged for the respective ingredient. Protein and essential amino acid digestibilities, and calcium retention were the parameters measured. Analysis of variance continued to Duncan test were applied to statistically evaluate the data. Pelleted microparticle protein of fish meal and soybean meal, respectively, resulted in significantly (P<0.05) highest protein and amino acids digestibilities, and Ca retention although lower disgestibility of fewer amino acids was found in mash form. In conclusion, pelleted form of microparticle protein of either fish meal or soybean meal improve protein and mostly amino acids digestibilities, and calcium retention in broiler.

ABSTRACT The research aims to determine the influence of using Salvinia molesta with multienzyme additive in rations of tegal duck performans. This research uses 72 Tegal female ducks 22 weeks old. Feed ingredients used in the reasearch consisted of corn, soybean meal, oil, bran, fish meal, premix, methionine, lysine, Salvinia molesta and multienzyme additives. The reasearch was conducted with Completely Randomized Design with 6 treatments and 4 replications of the study. Each experimental unit consists of 3 ducks. Ransum namely: T0: feed without Salvinia molesta and enzyme; T1: feed without Salvinia molesta + multienzim; T2: feed with Salvinia molesta. 5% + without multienzymes; T3: feed with Salvinia molesta. 5% + multienzim; T4: feed with Salvinia molesta. 7,5% + multienzim; T5: feed with Salvinia molesta. 10% + multienzim. The result showed no significant treatment (P> 0,05) to consumtion of ration, feed conversion and Tegal duck eeg weightbut have an effect on hen day production (P

Abstract This experiment was carried out to study the effect of dietary exogenous monocomponent protease on the coefficient apparent total tract (ATTD) and apparent ileal (AID) digestibility of amino acids of corn, soybean meal (SBM), and full fat soybean meal (FFSM) in broilers. A total of 400 males Cobb-500 (14 d of age) were equally allocated in 80 metabolic cages (50 cm × 50 cm × 45 cm) in a completely randomized design and a semi-controlled environment. Eight treatments (basal diet with or without a protease and three ingredients replacing the basal diets in 40% to corn and 30% to SBM and FFSM, with and without protease), with 10 replicates each were evaluated. The protease was added at 200 mg/kg resulting in 15,000 unit of PROT/kg. The total collection of excreta was held during 3 d, after 5 d for adaptation of broilers at the diets. The ileal content was collected on d 21, after slaughter of birds. The enzyme increased (P &lt; 0.05) the ATTD and AID of most amino acids contained in SBM and FFSM. The digestibility of cysteine, glycine, proline, and threonine had higher (P &lt; 0.05) ATTD and AID in all tested ingredients with the use of protease. On average, the dietary protease increased in 5.19% and 3.86% the total and ileal digestibility of amino acids, respectively. It was concluded that the dietary protease exerts major effects on toasted full-fat soybean, followed by soybean meal and corn to broilers.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of various geometric mean diameters (GMDs) of particles of corn, pelleted soybean meal and a corn-soy mixture in the proportion of 70% and 30%, respectively, on the nutritional value of the feeds. The study evaluated energy consumption, the contents of apparent metabolizable energy (AME) and AME corrected for nitrogen balance (AMEn) and the metabolizability coefficients for broiler chickens at various ages. A total of 540 Cobb 500 male broilers were housed in metabolic cages (experimental units). Trials were performed separately with each feed. A completely randomized design was used with four treatments, namely corn with 573, 636, 851, and 1012 μm GMDs; pelleted soybean meal with 538, 550, 665, and 741 μm GMDs; and the corn-soy mixture with 627, 658, 893, and 1040 μm GMDs. Birds were evaluated on days 1 - 10, 11 - 20, 21 - 30, and 31 - 40. Larger GMDs resulted in lower energy consumption. From 1 to 10 days, birds consumed less metabolizable energy than older birds. Birds fed corn from days 1 to 10 had higher metabolizable energy (P <0.05) with increasing GMD up to 1042 μm. However, the results varied, depending on the feed and its combinations. The use of coarse particles could reduce the costs of grinding, and would have few effects on the metabolizable energy of broiler chickens.

A feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the growth performance and nutrient of broiler chickens fed varied levels of steam-treated Cattle Rumen Epithelia Scrapings (CRESM) in replacement for fish meal at 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100% level. Two hundred and four (240), one-day old Abor Acre strain of broiler chickens used for the study were randomly divided into 5 treatments of four (4) replicates each. There were 12 birds per replicate to a total of 48 birds per treatment in a completely randomized design. Data were collected on the feed intake, weight gain, feed to gain ratio, feed cost per kilogram weight gain at the starter and finisher phases while digestibility trial was conducted at the finisher phase. The results indicated that feed intake (44.15, 48.20, 48.87, 47.18 and 49.30g) and weight gain (20.73, 24.13, 24.63, 23.69 and 23.34g) for 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% CRESM, respectively were higher (P<0.05) and feed: gain ratio lower in birds that received diets containing CRESM at starter phase. Feed cost and feed cost per kg weight gain decreased with increased level of CRESM at this phase. At the finisher phase, feed cost per kilogram weight gain (₦260:01) of treatment five (100% inclusion of CRESM) was the lowest (p<0.05) compared with other inclusion while the control was the highest. It was concluded that 100% fishmeal could be replaced with steam-treated CRESM in broiler diets, thus ultimately reducing the production cost and increasing the profit accruable to farmers.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the performance, carcass yield and intestinal morphometry of 1- to 21-day-old broiler chickens fed a diet containing increasing levels of sunflower cake, supplemented with or without an enzyme complex (EC). We used 1200 Cobb 500 birds, which were distributed in a completely randomized design in a 2x5 factorial scheme and five levels of sunflower cake inclusion (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20%) in diets supplemented or not with EC. Each treatment consisted of 5 replicates. Animals were fed the experimental diets from 1 to 21 days of age and from 22 to 42 days all birds received the same feed based on corn and soybean meal. There was no interaction between the level of sunflower cake inclusion and presence of EC. From 1 to 21 days of age, the weight gain, final weight, and feed intake linearly decreased (P<0.05) with increasing sunflower cake inclusion level. At 42 days old, after animals consumed diets based on corn and soybean meal (from 22 to 42 days), the levels provided least 21 days did not influence the performance results. Animals receiving the EC in the first phase showed better results at the end of the experiment (P<0.05). Up to 21 days old, carcass yield decreased, and abdominal fat increased with the sunflower cake inclusion. The addition of EC in the diet improved the thigh, breast and carcass yield. Intestinal morphology after 21 days revealed that the three segments of the intestine had at least one type of change, such as a decrease in villus height and increase in crypt depth, with increased level of sunflower cake in the diet, affecting performance.

ABSTRAK. Keong mas (Pomacea canaliculata L.) merupakan bahan pakan alternatif bagi unggas yang memiliki kandungan protein tinggi yang hampir sama dengan tepung ikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggantian tepung ikan dengan tepung keong mas (TKM) didalam ransum basal terhadap plasma metabolit yang meliputi total kolesterol (TCHO), trigliserida (TG), glukosa (GLU), dan total protein (TP) pada ayam broiler fase starter. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah eksperimen dengan Rancangan Acak Lengkap menggunakan 60 ekor DOC dengan 4 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan, masing-masing perlakuan dipelihara selama 21 hari. Perlakuan dalam penelitian ini adalah penggantian tepung ikan dengan TKM dengan level 0, 3, 6, dan 9%. Parameter yang diukur adalah TCHO, TG, GLU dan TP. Hasil penelitian ini diperoleh bahwa penggantian tepung ikan dengan TKM pada level 9% berpengaruh nyata (P0,05) meningkatkan TCHO, GLU dan TP ayam broiler, namun tidak berbeda nyata (P0,05) terhadap TG. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah penggantian tepung ikan dengan TKM di dalam ransum basal dapat mengubah kadar plasma metabolit yang meliputi TCHO, GLU, dan TP pada ayam broiler fase starter. Selanjutnya, level TKM yang digunakan untuk menggantikan tepung ikan tidak boleh melebihi 6% khususnya untuk mencapai level terbaik TCHO di dalam plasma ayam broiler fase starter.  (Effect of fish meal substitution with golden snail meal (Pomacea canaliculata L.) in basal ration with on plasma metabolites in broiler starter period) ABSTRACT. Gold snail is an alternative feed with high protein content and almost similar to protein content of fish meal. This study aims to determine the effect of substitution of fish meal with golden snail meal (GSM) in basal ration on plasma metabolites including total cholesterol (TCHO), triglyceride (TG), glucose (GLU) and total protein (TP) in starter broiler chickens. The research design in this study was a Completely Randomized Design, using 60 DOCS of broiler chickens (Cobb) with four treatments and five replications with each treatment consisted of 3 broilers chickens. The chickens were kept from DOC until 21 days old. The treatment in this study was the substitution of fish meal with GSM at levels 0, 3, 6 and 9% in basal ration in broiler chickens. The observed parameter in this study were TCHO, TG, GLU and TP. The results of this study showed that the substitution of fish meal with GSM in basal ration up to level 9% significantly (P0.05) increased TCHO, GLU and TP but did not affect TG in broiler chickens. The conclusion of this study that the substitution of fish meal with GSM in basal ration altered plasma metabolites including TCHO, GLU and TP in broiler starter period. Moreover, the maximum level of GSM substitution for fishmeal should not exceed 6% especially to achieve the best level of TCHO in plasma broiler chicken starter period.

The objective was to evaluate the performance, relative organ weight, morphometry, intestinal length and pancreatic enzyme activity of broilers receiving neonatal supplementation. A total of 900 Cobb 500 broiler chicks was housed in 30 boxes of 2.5 m². The treatments were divided in a completely randomized design with six replications, and consisted of five inclusion levels (0.0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10 grams per bird). The supplement used was based of amino acids, vitamins and minerals, which was provided on the ration on the first day in the housing. Statistical analysis was performed using SAS (2008) and when significant broken down using a polynomial regression. Due to the inclusion of the neonatal supplement in the period from one to seven and one to 21 days of age, the feed intake presented a linear effect and the weight gain, a quadratic effect. The relative weights of the gizzard and liver showed a quadratic effect, and the inclusions of 4.18 and 3.41 grams/bird provided the lowest weights, respectively. The jejunum villi height decreased with supplementation as well as the activity of pancreatic lipase. It can be concluded that neonatal supplementation benefited the performance of birds up to 21 days of age.

It was determined in this work the coefficients of apparent and true digestibility of protein and amino acids of five feeds (corn, wheat bran, soybean meal, corn gluten meal, fish meal) in Nile tilapia. It was used 252 reverted Thai strain Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in growth phase, with weight of 310 ± 9.68 g, distributed in experimental randomized blocks design, with five treatments, six replicates per treatment and seven fish per experimental unit. Each experimental diet contained a single source of protein, composed by the studied ingredients. An additional group of fish was fed protein-free diet for quantification of the endogenous fraction and determination of true digestibility coefficients. Digestibility was estimated by the indirect method by using chromium oxide at the concentration of 0.50% of the diet as a marker, performing fecal collection at every four hour interval by using decantation technique. Coefficients of apparent digestibility of the protein and amino acids are: corn, 83.57 and 82.45%; wheat bran 82.87 and 81.47%; soybean meal 91.12 and 89.41%; corn gluten meal 90.07 and 87.78%; fish meal 83.53 and 81.65% respectively. Coefficients of true digestibility of protein and the mean of the amino acids are: corn, 90.02 and 89.60%; wheat bran 89.62 and 89.14%; soybean meal 93.58 and 91.88%; corn gluten meal 92.50 and 90.34%; fish meal 86.01 and 84.27%, respectively.

The present study was conducted to evaluate the feeding effect of diet composed of microparticle protein added with lime juice as an acidifier on immune status and efficiency of protein utilization in relation to the growth of broiler chicken. Dietary treatments tested were P1 was diet with 20% intact protein and CaCO3 as a Ca source, P2 was diet with 20% microparticle protein and eggshell as a Ca source added with 1.2% lime juice, and P3 was diet with 20% microparticle protein and eggshell as a Ca source added with 2.4% lime juice. Variables measured were protein and amino acids digestibility, retentions of N and Ca, fecal Nτ–methyl histidine (Nτ–MH) excretion as a protein turnover index, lymphoid organs, heterophil and lymphocyte (H/L) ratio, immunoglobulin A (IgA) as a body resistance indicator, feed consumption, body weight gain (BWG), and feed conversion ratio (FCR). The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with 3 treatments and 8 replications. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and Duncan test at 5% probability. Protein and amino acid digestibility, N, and Ca retentions were significantly (p<0.05) higher in P2 and P3. However, the H/L ratio was significantly (p<0.05) lower in both treatments compared to P1. Bursa fabricius and lymph weights were not difference, but BWG in P2 significantly (p<0.05) increased. In conclusion, protein and some essential amino acids digestibility, N and Ca retentions, IgA, and BWG increase with the decrease in H/L ratio, fecal Nτ–MH, feed consumption, and FCR in broiler fed diet composed of microparticle protein source with additional 1.2 mL acidifier of lime juice.
