The aims of this study are (1) to examine the motivation of EAP learners to learn IELTS in online and offline classes during a pandemic on an English course, and (2) to identify changes in student motivation during the learning process that are affected by the pandemic situation. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a sampling technique in which students are sampled randomly. As many as 10 students have been taken as participants. Furthermore, a questionnaire has been used as a data collection method, and it has been shared through Google Forms. It consists of 25 statements divided based on intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The result of it has been classified based on four learning motivation aspects by Gowing’s theory. Overall, the findings revealed that three of the four aspects of learning motivation are medium-level (49,4%) in this case. In conclusion, there is no substantial motivation for EAP pupils in the English learning process, specifically for IELTS in online and offline sessions, for an ongoing pandemic.

The article provides an overview of the second part of a report on international branch campuses (IBCs). The Observatory on Borderless Higher Education (OBHE) and the Cross-Border Education Research Team (C-BERT) are the authors of the report. IBCs continue to grow in number and variety around the world, and the report includes updated estimates and patterns by country, but previously there has been limited attention paid to the success factors of mature IBCs. Defined as campuses in place for a decade or more, the report draws on in-depth interviews with campus and institutional leaders.

The sudden closure of campuses as a social distancing measure to prevent community transmission has shifted face-to-face classes to online learning systems. This has thrown the focus on utilising eLearning tools and platforms for effective student engagement which may have limitations of accessibility and affordability for many students. The pandemic has exposed the shortcomings of the current higher education system and the need for more training of educators in digital technology to adapt to the rapidly changing education climate of the world. In the post-pandemic situation, the use of eLearning and virtual education may become an integral part of the higher education system. The higher education institutions and universities need to plan the post-pandemic education and research strategies to ensure student learning outcomes and standards of educational quality.
