Abstract The paper examines the view and representation of space in Terézia Mora’s prose, primarily based on her novel entitled The Only Man on the Continent (Der einzige Mann auf dem Kontinent). In the universe of the novel the perception of space basically determines the individual’s space of action and highly influences his self-image as well as his attitude toward alterity. The city not only functions as space, but also forms a multicultural medium which becomes itself the subject of reflection and metanarration. In the novel the anthropological places and non-places, in Augé’s sense, change their function and thus the borders of referential, mental and virtual worlds are blurred, the notion of space itself is revaluated. The protagonist is the Ulysses of our days; his journeys and adventures mainly take place in his imagination. In the virtual world he loses his sense of reality, which can also be perceived in the narrative procedures of the text: the novel is in fact the protagonist’s quest for identity, his endless monologue, which is interrupted by the omniscient narrator’s comments from time to time. In the meantime the evident intertextual context also gets shape: the text maintains an ironical intertextual connection with James Joyce’s Ulysses.

Occidental societies, according to certain visions of a postmodern future as reflected in literature and arts, are heading towards a dystopian decadent world order. It is inside this perspective that I place the following essay with the aim to analyse the representation of Postmodernism and Postmodernity in Bernard Cohen’s experimental work, Snowdome. This novel can be conceived as a complex portrayal of contemporary existence and life in the city. By means of three different narrations and two stories separated by the unstable boundary of time, Cohen depicts contemporary Sidney from a nightmarish present of noise that leads to the complete isolation of the subject in a near future. The novel emphasises the multiplicity of information in contemporary society and the way in which that information becomes a constant noise flooding the city. The individual is unable to grasp a bit of that “pure reality” outside the simulacrum offered by the media and by the terrifying museum. Sidney and Australia become, in Cohen’s work, a prolongation of contemporary North-American invasive culture, based on the power of the TV screen and the falsehood of simulacrum, whereas individuals are plunged into a new time-space dimension which is placed somewhere in a postmodern time.

On the one hand, creating rich virtual worlds "by hand" like in the game Grand Theft Auto V is hugely expensive and limited to large studios. On the other hand, procedural content generation (PCG) allows tiny teams to create huge worlds like Hello Games did with only four people (in the beginning) for the recently released game No Man's Sky. Following in the footsteps of Hello Games, this paper tries to equip the reader with an overview about the state-of-the-art of how to build such a virtual world, i.e., a populated virtual city with buildings, streets, parks, vegetation, humans, and vehicles, using just PCG assets. Each PCG asset that is envisioned to bring the city to life is grouped and discussed in detail and the latest research trends in PCG are presented together with open questions. Using the above-mentioned PCG assets, instead of months, a city can be built in a mere couple of minutes by a user without much experience in designing 3D assets. The city can then be used for many applications like games, virtual reality (VR), or film.

The city is one of important aspects of the earth. The universe has been created with various kinds of creature. However, to be able to survive, there are two important things to do: a) surviving to compete, and b) surviving to live. The human being becomes the subject for any building plans for nation advancement. On the other side, the environ- ment which becomes the object of building plans is frequently ignored. It should not happen as al-Qur'an states that the universe is created for human's benefits based on its Standard and function. When the universe does not function as its standard, there will be a disaster. For that reason, building infrastructure in the city should consider the surroundings, and does not make the nature as the place of throwing away. The building process which synergies with al-Qur'an aims to make people aware and change their behavior for the safety of the universe. In al-Qur'an, it is stated that if the human is not back to his/her 'fitrah' will disappear because of any damages created by human himself.

The article is devoted to the novel Rome by Nikolay Gogol, in which the author recreated the image of Eternal town in the year 1840. Into the words of the character of a novel young roman prince, which returned to Rome from Paris, the author put his thoughts and emotional impressions by Rome: about greatness of Roman artistic legacy, about the attitude of the town-dwellers to tradition, about national character. It was in Rome that Gogol felt that spiritual liberty in the creative work, which he was deprived of in Russia. Great love for Italy, its people, history and culture of this country are inherent in the lines of Gogols story. In Rome, many monuments of architecture, culture and art are concentrated. This is what is interesting in the subject of artistic exposition and research. As the epicenter and source of European culture, Rome for thousands of years has attracted the attention of artists in search of inspirational images, including the image of the city.

The subject of study is the originality of the artistic vision of A. Murdoch, which involves in the plot of literary text, the collision and interweaving of various philosophical systems (existentialism, Marxism, Freudianism, neo-Catholicism, pragmatism). The main attention is paid to incorporating Eastern philosophical systems (Zen Buddhism, Sufism) into the work of the writer. The example of the novel “The Black Prince” by A. Murdoch shows the complex interweaving of the life history of the heroes of the work with the philosophical reflections of the author about the laws of the universe, world live order, God, man. The definitions of Zen Buddhism, Sufism, the Sufi Path, as well as the classification of “parking on the Path to the Almighty” are given. The results of a comparative analysis of the novel by A. Murdoch “The Black Prince” and the treatise “Mantiq-ut-tayr” by Sufi author F. Attar are presented. It is proved that Zen Buddhism and Sufism are implanted in the text of the Black Prince novel to create the effect of polyphony of opinions, voices as multidimensionality of being, ambiguity and insufficiency of one interpretation of human actions, as well as any phenomenon in being. An assumption is made about the proximity of the novel “The Black Prince” by A. Murdoch with the theory of Nassim Taleb’s “Black Swan”.

A number of scholarly and critical arguments have explored the poetics of nonfiction, otherwise called life writing, as a sub-genre of prose literature. Against the common expectation of a detailed concentration on facts about the subject (the self or the other) which has made nonfiction to be seen in some quarters as a concern of history, such critical arguments have shown that this genre has its peculiar, predominant pattern and structure, which make it arguably a concern of the literary enterprise. A part of such arguments theoretically postulates that nonfiction is a meta-history, based on its identification of some textual and contextual properties and patterns of narration which transform the life account of the self or other into a meta-historical (and not historical) expression, and therefore makes such writing a concern of literature. In extension of this argument, this paper examines Toyin Falola's memoir, A Mouth Sweeter than Salt, as a genre of life writing and, especially, a form of autobiography, by showing how the setting, Ibadan, in its cultural and social formations, is depicted as having contributed to the self-awareness, self-image and identity of the subject, and how this reflection makes the narrative a meta-historical expression.

Paraules clau: Tirant lo Blanc, Martorell, descripció, literatura medieval, ciutat medieval.   Abstract: Tirant lo Blanc is the result of Joanot Martorell’s personal experiences. The urban landscape is the scene that complets the narration, which complements the psychological vitality of the protagonists and enriches the series of events and stories told. It becomes an aesthetic resource that allows the author to complete the plot and guide the reader’s imagination for the universe in which the deed takes place. This article analyzes the literary description of the city by the writer and his aesthetic considerations of the urban landscape to discover what his perception of the urban phenomenon was.  Keywords: Tirant lo Blanc, Martorell, description, Medieval literature, Medieval city.
