AbstractSuccessful performance and completion of construction projects highly depend on an adequate time scheduling of the project activities. On implementation of time scheduling, the execution modes of activities are most often required to be set in a manner that enables in achieving the minimum total project cost. This paper presents an approach to cost optimal time scheduling, which integrates a spreadsheet application and data transfer to project management software (PMS). At this point, the optimization problem of project time scheduling is modelled employing Microsoft Excel and solved to optimality using Solver while organization of data is dealt by macros. Thereupon, Microsoft Project software is utilized for further managing and presentation of optimized time scheduling solution. In this way, the data flow between programs is automated and possibilities of error occurrence during scheduling process are reduced to a minimum. Moreover, integration of spreadsheet and PMS for cost optimal time scheduling in construction is performed within well-known program environment that increases the possibilities of its wider use in practice. An application example is shown in this paper to demonstrate the advantages of proposed approach.

Planning and scheduling is extremely important role in construction projects thank to the increasing difficulties during this field. Construction Planning is that the necessary warning to Scheduling and determining general sequence, defining labour tasks, construction methods and assigning responsibilities, inappropriate planning can cause major delays with the project work. For the planning and scheduling work requires huge amount of  paperwork, which makes the management very burdensome. These problems may be solved employing a  project management software which helps to grant a planned approach to planning. Nowadays use of project management (PM) software as a tool for managing and organizing work has gained its importance in construction industry and continues to grow at a faster pace in other industries also. During this study, attempt is made  to check project management software such as MS project and Primavera and their feasibility is studied.

There is nothing in this world that do not change unless the change itself. Almost every aspect of the world, particularly the world of IT, can changed. In project management software, for instance, people have to work on software that frequently subject to change. That is why the greatest challenge faced by the company within today's competitive world is how to deal with those changes. In relation with the previous explanation, the objective of this research is to standardize project management in software development by using change management. Objective will finally help project developer to ensure that the management of project has a need of standardization that essential for reflecting the current business needs. To achieve the objectives, this research will also attempt to show why does the standardization using the change management is essential task, which is almost inevitable. This research directed for discussing about the management of change as a common way to reduce risks, costs and maximizing the benefit from major changes in business and information technology. The result showed that the project can determined as success because it delivered on time, on budged and have a standardized quality.

Abstract: Smart-Sheet is a project management software product, developed and sold by Smart consultancies. It is designed to assist a project manager in developing a plan, assigning resources to tasks, tracking progress, managing the budget, and analysing workloads. Smart sheet can be used as a standalone tool for tracking project progress or it can be used for tracking complex project distributed in many geographical areas and managed by a number of project managers. Smart Sheet is designed to assist a project manager in: 1) Developing a plan, 2) Assigning resources to tasks, 3) Tracking progress, 4) Managing budget and 5) Analysing workloads. In this study an effort is made to estimate the changes in overall cost and time required to execute the phase 1 work of Nagpur metro rail project when done by conventional execution approach and when done by project management software tool of smart sheet Keywords: Project management, Smart sheet, Conventional construction execution, Cost optimization, Time optimization, Resource optimization.

A vast amount of project management software is available today in a wide variety of capabilities, applicability, platform requirements, and prices. These software products significantly enhance the PM’s job of managing a project in almost all aspects, including selection, planning, scheduling, execution, control, risk, and communications. PMs should therefore be aware of the types of tools available and the features and applicability of those tools. In this chapter, types of software products and some specific products are identified and discussed.

Today, Construction based Industry is the prospering industry which has a high economical influence on any nation. Delay in the huge construction project increases the total project cost. Henceforth, uncertainties as well as risks must be significantly regarded during the project. For organizing and completing the projects in a financially, timely and qualitatively accountable manner, careful scheduling of projects is compulsory. Effectual scheduling of project assures project success. This study concentrates on qualitative analysis, risk identification, together with quantitative analysis. The targets are i) to ascertain the key risk aspects that disturb the project schedule, and ii) to find the probability of finishing the project within specified time. Questionnaires are distributed amongst 20 industry practitioners with disparate experience from [1] to [25] years.  Quantitative analysis is made by the methods like Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) and PERT. @RISK by Palisade corp. is utilized for MCS.

The case is based on a real $25 million project at a major U.S.-based computer manufacturer. For confidentiality reasons the company has been disguised as A&D High Tech. The Web-based online ordering system project is required by sales and marketing for the fall holiday season. If the project misses this window, the firm will lose substantial market share to competitors. The A&D High Tech case examines how to create and analyze a project plan in Microsoft Project. Specifically, data is given to build the project plan step-by-step and then analyze the plan using the Microsoft project management tool. In order to make the case manageable for students we reduced the size of the project, and corresponding number of resources, to approximately $1 million, but retained all of the features of the original project. The project plan that students construct from the data given in the case is fraught with risks, and students must apply risk management techniques to diagnose the plan. Ultimately, students must answer the management question: Will the project be completed for the holiday shopping season? This case is the first in a series; the second is the case entitled “A&D High Tech (B): Managing Scope Change.” The case can also be taught using other project management software tools, such as Primavera. The case teaches students how to build a project plan in Microsoft Project (or other project management software tools). More important, the case teaches prospective executives how to analyze a project plan and identify risks of the plan, and define strategies to mitigate these risks. Students learn that in the planning stage of any project the risks are highest, but this is the best opportunity for proactive management intervention.
