The article is devoted to the reconstruction of the biography of Isai Pavlovich Schmidt, a Professor of History, propagandist and the head of the flight on the route Moscow – Beijing (1925). The life and work of I. P. Schmidt (1896–1975) have already been the object of studies in modern historiography. However, the complex of new sources, which were available to the authors of the present article, made it possible to revisit some facts of the professor's biography, introducing the necessary additions and clarifications. The purpose of the study is the reconstruction of the biography of I. P. Schmidt in the context of the Soviet history with a focus on the impact of the anti-cosmopolitan campaign in the USSR on the professional career and further life of the professor. As a result of the analysis, the authors identified the main stages of the biography of I. P. Schmidt and noted the peculiar features of his worldview. The obtained results of the study led the authors to the conclusion that events of the anti-cosmopolitan campaign had resulted in the beginning of a new stage in the I. P. Schmidt’s biography – his research and pedagogical activities in Uzbekistan and Siberia. The study determines peculiarities of the activities and life of the “cosmopolitan” historian in the country’s periphery. This article is intended for teachers and university students, researchers as well as local historians.

The article examines the attitudes towards education and professional career development of young people through the prism of the gender factor. The relevance of the study is due to the ongoing transformation of the economic system, the unpleasant consequence of which is the discrepancy between supply and demand in the labor market and the resulting employment problems. Also, researchers are increasingly highlighting the problems of female employment associated with various socio-economic factors (lower wages, informal employment, inaccessibility of certain professions, difficulties in combining motherhood and employment, single-parent families, etc.), as a result of which women are more often included in the working group. poverty. Today, with all the changes taking place in social systems, one of the most significant social lifts is the institution of higher education. So, material wealth often depends on the education received and subsequent professional implementation. The research interest lies in the analysis of the attitudes of modern youth in relation to the institution of education and professional career as an opportunity to improve the quality of life. Do these attitudes differ among young girls and boys, how do they assess their capabilities? The data of a sociological study conducted by the author in 2020 on the topic of professional identity of university students in Ufa are presented. The results of which showed that modern young people are not inclined to link the level of education received and the amount of income. The concept of success in life is somewhat different for men and women, if, first of all, girls want to have a favorite job and family, then for men the desire to be free and independent turned out to be paramount. Also, male respondents more often count on career advancement and professional growth. The research data to some extent reflect the gender attitudes of the generation of parents among today's Russian youth. In order to overcome the manifestations of gender statistical discrimination in the labor sphere, increase the economic resilience of women and reduce the risk of falling into the poverty zone, it is necessary to develop and implement social programs oriented towards this.

Thus, the Career Readiness-Personality (CR-P) Module was developed as an intervention aim to increase the students’ career readiness and enhance their personality. The Career Readiness-Personality (CR-P) Module was developed based on The Social Career Cognitive Theory (SCCT) and Big Five Personality Model. The Social Career Cognitive Theory (SCCT) was introduced by Albert Bandura (1986) and Big Five Personality Model by McCrae & Costa (1987). This research aims to develop the CR-P Module and to determine the content validity of the CR-P Module for university students. The development of CR-P Module was based on the two sub modules known as Career Self-Efficacy and Big Five Personality. After the module development, the content validity of the module was evaluated by eight experts and the research findings showed that the value of content validity coefficient was 0.92. In conclusion, this research indicated that the CR-P Module has a high validity which can be utilized by university students.

This article aims to interrelate dimensions of the well-being validation instruments proposed by Watson, Clark and Tellegen (PANAS) with generalized anxiety dimensions proposed by Spitzer et al. (GAD-7) and state-trait anxiety inventories proposed by Biaggio and Natalício (IDATE), using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), in the case of individual university students in southern Brazil and the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. We conducted a behavioral study, characterized as exploratory-descriptive, by applying a questionnaire survey to collect data though face-to face interviews to a group of 460 university students from June to August 2019. A non-probabilistic sampling method for convenience was used, justified by the heterogeneous incidence of the participants. Our results support most of the proposed hypotheses. Only one hypothesis was rejected, i.e., that the Positive Affection Scale (WBS) is not related to the State Anxiety Inventory (IAE)—when a person is feeling in full activity, this situation does not affect the momentary state, characterized by tension, apprehension and by increased activity in the autonomic nervous system. In terms of the subjective well-being of students, 14.13% were found to have a low rating. 86.74% were found to have generalized anxiety; 75% had trait anxiety, and 80.22% had state anxiety. Our results indicate the need for preventive measures to minimize anxiety and help maintain necessary levels of well-being during this phase of academic development and when forging a professional career. It is expected that new studies will contribute to the advancement of such themes, particularly with university students.

Expressing thoughts and feelings effectively is a vital skill for individuals’ professional career. University students should thus attach due importance to their communication skills as they receive their professional training. Self-efficacy beliefs can be regarded as an influential element in speaking skills, and may affect different aspects of speaking performance. In this respect, the aim of this study was to examine the speaking self-efficacy beliefs of final-year university students based on different variables. The reason why this study focused on final-year students was to determine the level at which they perceived themselves in terms of speaking in the pre-service period. Accordingly, the "Speaking Self-Efficacy Scale" was administered to 843 final-year students (454 female, and 389 male) studying at a Turkish university, and the data gathered were analysed through statistical methods. The results showed that the students' speaking self-efficacy levels were considerably high based on their scores on the scale. There was no significant difference between the students' self-efficacy beliefs based on gender, but they were observed to differ in their speaking self-efficacy beliefs based on their faculties. The analysis regarding the variable of experience in prepared speeches also revealed a significant difference in the students' speaking self-efficacy beliefs. Moreover, the university students' speaking self-efficacy beliefs were found to differ based on their annual amount of reading. It can be argued that improving the current level is possible through participation in more prepared speech activities and gaining a reading habit. Keywords: Self – Efficacy beliefs, Speaking, Speaking skills.

This study draws on the notions of investment and consumption to interpret beliefs about learning languages other than English (LOTEs) among learners in Chinese universities. By interviewing 23 Chinese university students learning French or Spanish in a master’s program, we found that most participants questioned the usefulness of LOTEs for their professional career and viewed learning LOTEs as part of leisure and consumption rather than investment. Only a small number of participants related their language skill development to career aspirations and were motivated to continue learning LOTEs after the end of their LOTE classes. To further explain the different language beliefs about LOTE learning, we examined the identities of these LOTE learners. The analysis identified four patterns of ‘imagined identity’, indicating that the difficulty experienced by individual learners in anticipating the usefulness of LOTEs in their ‘imagined identity’ in the future, especially in their professional career, led to their belief about LOTEs as consumption and leisure rather than investment. This paper concludes with some implications for language policy planners in sustaining multilingual learning in Chinese higher education.
