In particular, this research attempts to explore the present situation, the target, and the learning needs for the writing course. Need analysis is conducted for deciding the goals and the objectives of the upcoming curriculum and for ensuring that the curriculum content ties the students’ needs. A descriptive method was employed in this study. A questionnaire was used for collecting the data which then analyzed and described qualitatively. The respondents of this research were 176 students of English Education Department students who are mostly in the second semester. The results show that; firstly, in the present situation analysis, most of the students admitted that they were in the intermediate level of English; specifically, most of them have fair proficiency in writing. Next, in the target situation analysis, writing skill is the secondary need of the students in which grammar is the most priority needed by the students to be improved. Next, the students’ purposes in learning English are to be a teacher/lecturer, translator, and tourism guide. Most of the students are more enjoyable for learning in the classroom that should be consisted of not more than 30 students. Thirdly, in the learning needs analysis, the students were interested to learn writing using discussion. For doing the writing task, the students require to have individual work. The learning media that is the most needed is PowerPoint presentation. In addition, the most important learning source that the students need is a hand-out and the topics of the material are about issues in Indonesia. Introduction. English for Specific Purposes focuses on teaching and learning subject specific knowledge which includes specific language skills that particular learners need for a specific purpose. Self-efficacy is determined by subjective beliefs about one?s own abilities, which also applies to the academic setting of studying English for Specific Purposes. Academic self-efficacy represents the conviction of students about their own abilities to successfully fulfil academic tasks at designated levels. The goal of this research is to examine the degree of academic self-efficacy of medical students who learn English for Specific purposes at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Novi Sad, with respect to their gender, year of study, grade achieved in the previous course in English, and the length of learning English before enrolling in the Faculty. Material and Methods. The study included 58 medical students. The researchers used the College Academic Self-Efficacy Scale questionnaire developed by Owen and Froman (1988) to assess academic self-efficacy. Results. Three significant factors were identified: general self-competence, communication with the professor, and attendance at lectures, with general self-competence being the most significant factor. Considering the independent variables, only the grade showed statistical significance. Establishing the grade as such a significant predictor can be explained by the fact that good grades and a high grade point average are presented as very desirable outcomes. However, a good grade does not necessarily mean having better knowledge or correct use of language. Conclusion. Further research into this topic is necessary, with expanding the number of participants, study programs and variables.

The course of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is supposed to prepare students for the professional sector, yet the course at IAIN Palopo in Indonesi is designed in general English without any professional input or assessment of the learner's needs. This research is motivated by the Communication and Islamic Broadcasting program students’ complaints of unsatisfaction with the course since it does not meet their needs. This research aims to examine the English needs of students studying in the communication and Islamic broadcasting program. The researchers used a mixed-methods strategy that incorporates both quantitative and qualitative research. The participants in this study were 60 undergraduates and 30 graduate students. Data was gathered through questionnaires and interviews. The data was then analyzed using the comprehensive concept of need analysis proposed by Dudley-Evans & St. John (1998). The results revealed that the majority of students learn English to help them advance in their careers. Their top priority in ESP is to improve their speaking skills, followed by listening, reading, and writing. Due to the repetitive learning method, inappropriate textbook, and short duration, according to the interview results, the students were also unsatisfied with the present ESP course.
