This study seeks to see the relationship between the human development index (HDI) and gross regional domestic product (GRDP) variables on the happiness of economic growth data for provinces in Indonesia. The method used in this research is regression and path analysis. This study proves that happiness is not caused by the income (GRDP) of a region but rather significantly by one of the dimensions of HDI, namely the education dimension. The relationship through the variable between using path analysis through the indirect effect of the GRDP intermediary also significantly affects the education dimension. About 60% of the variable quality of education plays a role in happiness. If the effect is through an intermediary variable, the real influence of the variable quality of education on happiness is 65%. Other variables such as health and economy, directly or indirectly, do not significantly affect the level of happiness.JEL Classification: I3, E5, R10How to Cite:Rizal, S., & Fitrianto, A. (2021). Human development is one of the indicators of the success of economic growth. The good quality of human resources goes hand in hand with economic growth, this is because resources as part of the factor of production are the most valuable assets in the economic activities of a country. This study aims to determine and analyze the causality of economic growth towards the quality of human resources. The method used in this study was using the Granger Causality method. Granger Causality Approach is used to measure the strength of the relationship between two or more variables, or it can also be used as a tool to see the direction of the relationship between independent variables and the dependent variable. The variable Human Development Index (HDI) as the dependent variable and per capita income variable as the independent variable. From this study it was concluded that the granger causality test on the proposed research model states that there is no causality relationship between two independent variables and the dependent variable, but significantly the Indonesian economic growth variable has a one-way relationship with the human development index (HDI).Human development is one of the indicators of the success of economic growth. This chapter explores the interactions between economic growth and human development, as measured by the Human Development Index, theoretically and empirically. Drawing on many studies it explores the links in two chains, from economic growth to human development, and from human development to growth. Econometric analysis establishes strong links between economic growth and human development, and intervening variables influencing the strength of the chains. Because of the complementary relationship, putting emphasis on economic growth alone is not a long-term viable strategy, as growth is likely to be impeded by failure on human development. The chapter classifies country performance in four ways: virtuous cycles where both growth and human development are successful; vicious cycles where both are weak; and lopsided ones where the economy is strong but human development is weak, or conversely ones where human development is strong but the economy is weak.

Kata Kunci: Pengeluaran Sektor Pendidikan, Pengeluaran Sektor Kesehatan, Belanja Modal, Indeks Pembangunan Manusia ABSTRACTCreating quality human resources needed various means and infrastructure such as investment in the sector of education, health and infrastructure. The role of government in the implementation of education aspects and health aspects is through government spending. The relationship of economic growth and human development is when the income of GDP per capital low due to low economic growth, causing household expenses for the improvement of human development to be down, so is the opposite. The purpose of this research to analyze the influence of the government’s spending of education sector, health sector and capital expenditure againts the human development index through economic growth. The method of data analysis used in this research is the analysis of the path (path analysis) which is the expansion of multiple linear regression analysis. The result of research sub-structure I shows that the government expenditure of education sector and capital expenditure affects positive and significant to economic growth, while the spending of health sector affects negative to economic growth. Then sub-structure II shows that the government’s spending of education sector, health sector and capital expenditure are the positive but insignificant againts HDI, while economic growth affects positive and significant towards HDI. Then the value of the path coefficient shows that economic growth is an intervening variable for the variable government spending on education and capital expenditure on the HDI. Keyword: Education sector spending, health sector spending, capital expenditure, human development index

Examining the human development of societies is one of the important economic policy practices of recent times. Therefore, economies steer the sub-components of human development and their policies implemented by researching the factors that affect such sub-components. In this context, the aim of this study is to examine the relationship between economic growth and terrorism with human development in 12 selected MENA countries in the period of 2002-2017 by the panel causality method. The findings obtained as a result of the panel causality analysis show that both terrorism and economic growth have bidirectional causality with the human development index throughout the panel. A causality relationship has also been found in many countries on a country basis

The factors that affect Human Development Index have been investigated extensively in previous researches. These studies consider education as an important factor and focus on the quality of education such as teachers’ skills, educational facilities and student conditions. Democracy has also been established as an important factor in HDI. In this study, we examined two variables, the democracy index and the land language index as fundamental variables of the Human Development Index (HDI). The land language index is a new variable created to signify the importance of the medium of instruction in higher education institutes, particularly in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. We performed a multiple-correlation analysis with the available data to find the correlation of these two indices on HDI. We found that together, the democracy index and land language index had a strong correlation to HDI. The results of this study can have a significant impact on social scientists and policymakers and should be considered for further research.
