Haslam et al.1 appear to accept the concept of the combined "Russell-Silver syndrome" postulated by a number of authors. I do not, and I believe that the study of craniofacial proportions allows one to differentiate three types of intrauterine drawfs (Table I).2,3 See the Table in PDF File Finally, Haslam et al.1 do not tell us what the asymmetry is in their first two patients; as an example, should unilateral ptosis or unilateral cryptorchidism qualify a patient for inclusion under the category of body asymmetry?

Health literacy (HL) is increasingly hailed as a strategy to improve the control individuals have over their health. A central critic of HL intervention is its overemphasis on individual level factors, something recognised in the 2008 report of the Commission of Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) that recommended expanding the scope of HL to cover the SDoH. The objective of our study was to assess the extent to which recent progress on HL captures the need for collective action on the SDoH. We conducted a scoping review on PubMed looking for review papers published between 2013–2018 in English and French. Definitions of HL were analysed against two main dimensions (i.e., locus of change of HL strategies and foreseen outcome of HL improvements). Despite a number of authors calling for more research on HL interventions at the community level and an expansion of the definition to cover the SDoH, we found that the recommendation of the Commission has yet to be implemented. Even when the definitions include the capacities of individuals on distal determinants, both the locus of change and outcomes of HL improvement do not go beyond intra individual factors (knowledge, skills, etc.). It is noteworthy that communities were either framed as a setting outside of health care services or as an aggregate of individuals. We found no instance of HL intervention regarding communities as complex systems of actors sharing a common space and dynamic. We conclude by suggesting a new definition of HL and by drawing attention to the research gap in addressing the upstream SDoH through HL actions.

Many scholars think that because of its ambiguous nature the definition of the civil society concept sometimes is meaningless. Civil society belongs to a group of sociological and political theory concepts such as freedom, justice, equality and democracy that are not clearly demarcated. At least two specific dimensions of the civil society concept are distinguishable: the theoretical and the normative role. In the context of theoretical role the concept of civil society analyzes dimensions of social life and social values, with citizens and civil organizations as key actors. The normative role serves to motivate and mobilize citizens and other social actors for the establishment and development of various contents and forms of civil activities. The normative function is mostly manifested during periods of transition from less to more democratic societies. Both dimensions of the civil society concept have played significant roles, especially in countries where the position of civil society has traditionally played a marginal role. Discussing the concept of civil society is quite fashionable today. Civil society is a popular term with politicians, academics and international agencies. We frequently hear politicians talk about the needs of the state and the market for a civil society. As a result, a number of authors and social and political theorists have stressed its critical importance in the processes of democratic change. The concept of civil society has been defended in various ways by a variety of political and social theorists. Today’s content of civil society does not result with a commonly accepted definition of the term, but focuses on whether the term should be a normative or non-normative tool of social science, and whether economic, religious and family relations should be considered as part of it. This paper will focus on the various meanings of civil society; a tentative definition on civil society will be introduced as well as various existing discourses of civil society.

Szalay1 discusses the definition of Russell-Silver syndrome and tabulates some cases with chromosomal anomalies reported in the literature. We have recently observed a 3-year and 7-month-old boy in whom the diagnosis of Silver-Russell syndrome was based on the presence of small size at birth (birth weight, 1,950 gm) despite being born at term, triangular shape of the face, turned down corners of the mouth, increased curve of fifth fingers, syndactylism of the toes, a café au lait area of the skin, asymmetry of the legs and feet, and marked retarded skeletal age.

The article deals with the importance of functional asymmetry and the level of its influence on the construction of special movements, which will be needed during the training of complicated coordination exercises and in the process of improving the technical and tactical training in boxing in female individuals. This will be especially true for the younger age groups of women’s boxing – girls and juniors. The purpose of the research is to study the effect of functional asymmetry in boxing. Material and methods of research:theoretical analysis of special and scientific literature, generalization of materials of the Internet. Research results. Identified: several types of functional asymmetry, lack of literary sources in boxing, which highlights the functional asymmetry in the training of women, influence of functional asymmetry to the development and dominance of certain physical qualities, special methodological approaches to eliminate asymmetry, changing functional asymmetry according to the age and sports experience, increasing variable actions during stressful situations. The inexpediency of determining the asymmetry only by the dominant limb, and using an integrated approach to the definition of the leading: limbs (arm, leg) and sensory systems (eye, ear), which forms an individual profile of asymmetry. It is revealed the influence of individual asymmetry profile on the development and improvement of technical and tactical training exercises in different sports. It is given the examples of different sports and martial arts, which emphasize the importance of functional asymmetry and its psychological impact to the features of training. It has been defined the optimal tests to identify individual asymmetry profiles that are available for use in convenient conditions. It is established that the data of studies on functional asymmetry given by leading scientists can be used to improve technical and tactical training in women’s boxing. Conclusions. Before starting to improve the technical and tactical training, the individual profile of the asymmetry of the female boxer should be determined. General tests for determining asymmetry should be coupled with special boxing exercises. According to the results of the tests, it is important to develop an individual training model for each individual based on her IPA, starting with the youngest age group of women’s boxing – girls and juniors.

AbstractFor an extrasolar planet on an eccentric orbit, the orbital velocity is constantly changing, even during a planetary transit. This changing orbital velocity will, in general, cause lightcurve assymetry. The asymmetry causes the mid-transit time to be slightly off-centre from the halfway point between transit ingress and egress. For GJ436b, we estimate that the mid-transit time is shifted by 20 seconds. In the case of a system experiencing secular changes, this difference will lead to a long period transit time variation (L-TTV) signal, under the typical definition of the mid-transit time. In this work, we describe the origins of the effect and evaluate it in the case of GJ436b experiencing hypothetical secular changes. We predict L-TTV could be used to map secular changes in such systems.

Purpose: The definition of the digital economy changes depending on the time period the definition comes from and the prevailing technology of that period, from the Internet to advanced robotics or artificial intelligence. The purpose of this paper is to identify the core terms, give a definition of the digital economy, identify the most influential journals, authors and documents that deal with the topic and provide an overview of the development of academic literature over the years. Methodology: 293 documents related to the term “digital economy” were retrieved from the Scopus database. By using citation, co-citation, bibliographic coupling analysis and co-occurrence of the keywords, this paper identifies a list of the most influential journals, authors and documents in the field of digital economy. The analysis was conducted by using the VOSviewer tool. An in-depth analysis of the documents was used to prepare an overview of the definitions of the digital economy. Results: The research proves inconsistency of the definition and context of the digital economy as well as a significant impact of a small number of authors and journals in the area under study. Keyword analysis shows that the term digital economy is related not to macroeconomic terms but to more specific industrial terms. Conclusion: Guidelines are provided for future scientific research to fill the gaps in the definition and scope of the digital economy.

The article presents the results of the medium-term forecast of income asymmetry of the population of Ukraine. Of the set of special research methods, statistical analysis was used. The initial information for the forecast was the official statistical data, namely: the income of the population of Ukraine in the dynamics by the type of economic activity and in the regional section over the past ten years. Construction of the forecast of the income and the definition of asymmetry was carried out based on the generalization of homogeneous phenomenons (million UAH and ten years). The average values were used to compare the obtained results, summarizing the characteristics of mass, qualitatively homogeneous socio-economic phenomenons, which scientifically predicted the main prospects. The results show a steady trend in the asymmetry of income asymmetry in Ukraine (both by type of economic activity and region), which will remain until 2024. In addition, it is found that Luhansk and Donetsk regions and the indicator (property income received) require additional research by surveying to establish the key risk factors.

The article deals with the discursive category of authoritarianism as one of the typical constants of the prototypical communicative situation, involving the inequality of the participants of the semiotic status-oriented interaction. The article provides an overview of this term in such Humanities as Psychology, Sociology, etc.; the concepts of authority and authoritarianism are differentiated from the perspective of the illocutionary point. The authors give the definition of an authoritarian discourse, the main illocutionary force of which is to exert a psychological pressure on communication partners. The markers of discursive representation of authoritarianism at different semiotic levels within the format of academic communication are analyzed. The key pragmatic characteristics of the academic discourse genres are the asymmetry of the communicative initiative and a teacher`s dominance in communication. The paper concludes that authoritarianism is expressed by a variety of lexical, grammatical, syntactic means at the verbal level (excessive use of professional terminology, modal words with the meaning of obligation, a language game, introductory words with directive connotation, etc.); and by phonation and kinetic means (speech volume and tempo, expressive mimic and gestures) at the nonverbal level. The pragmatic aspect of authoritarian discourse is taken into consideration.

Abstract: In the 20th century, a number of authors engaged with the creation of a new conceptual framework to interpret love from a political perspective. They interpreted it as a political feeling and questioned the practice of relegating it to the private and intimate dimensions. In this article, light is shed on a foundational moment in the definition of this conceptual framework, looking first at Alexandra Kollontai’s reflections and then introducing Shulamith Firestone’s take on love, as the expression of a first theoretical turn. This initial subversión had a great impact on the forms in which the subsequent feminist generations theorised a political economy of love in the context of women’s struggles to become political subjects themselves and fight for their own emancipation.Through an analysis of Kollontai’s Largo all’Eros alato! and Shulamith Firestone’s The Dialectic of Sex, both linked to materialist traditions, we identify the role that, according to the authors, love – as a political feeling – plays in women’s struggle for freedom. These first intuitions have been particularly fruitful in framing feminist contemporary approaches to “romantic love” (Illouz, Esteban, Herrera). In Kollontai’s and Firestone’s texts, love is presented as an emotional and psychic pivot upon which patriarchal domination is founded and consolidated in bourgeois-capitalist societies. Nevertheless, Kollontai argues that love also has to be understood as a psycho-social feeling with a great potential to promote emancipatory relationships for women. These two perspectives also reveal the complex role that love plays in contemporary feminist reflection and the profound transformation that emerged, between the 1920s and the 1960s, in the forms in which women were represented as a specific group in a class society (Kollontai) or as a class per se under patriarchy (Firestone).Key words: Love, Materialist Feminism, Kollontai, Firestone, Class.

This paper is a semiological attempt to derive meaning from the recent reconceptualization of the German nation: the thesis of the separate socialist nation as advanced by the Socialist Unity Party (SED) of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Before entering upon the question of how the-socialist nation of the GDR is defined and what this definition means in contrast to the definition of the nation current in the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), we may well ask whether it makes any difference. In spite of the furor aroused by this idea in the West German press, non-Germans may legitimately wonder whether it is not silly to quibble over whether to the GDR a separate state or a separate nation.
