AbstractEntrepreneurial innovation is a complex phenomenon. Experimenting with research designs that could claim some degree of generalizable linking between the individual and external influencing factors is challenging. However, progress even in research niches can contribute to a more structured understanding of the process. This article focuses on the first stages of entrepreneurial innovation, using a novel questionnaire design. Responses were collected from two Hungarian universities (147 and 127 responses, respectively) and analysed using Structural Equation Modelling. The results confirm that entrepreneurial innovation success in the early stage is shaped by macro-level factors, which have an influence on risk perception through locus of control. The paper makes two contributions, demonstrating (1) the possibility of using questionnaire survey for analysing multiple levels if the narrative is under control, and (2) how individual entrepreneurs approach the start of their innovation-based business, upon which personality and environmental factors both have significant impact.

This paper investigates the relationship between environmental uncertainty, supply chain capabilities and business performance in the context of the Zimbabwean horticultural industry. We hypothesised that the development of most supply chain capabilities would be negatively associated with environmental uncertainty and that supply chain capabilities would be positively related to the performance of the individual businesses in the supply chain. These hypotheses were tested using structural equation modelling. The hypotheses were generally supported for the relationships between environmental uncertainty and supply chain capabilities. However, most supply chain capabilities and environmental uncertainty were seen to be negatively related to business performance. We used established constructs for environmental uncertainty and business performance and developed new measures of supply chain capabilities. The main contributions of the paper are to simultaneously test the linkages between the three constructs and to develop new measures of supply chain capabilities.

Absorptive capacity is a common barrier to knowledge transfer at the individual level. However, technology absorptive capacity can enhance an individual’s learning behaviour. This study investigates that technology readiness, the tools for knowledge sources, social influences, and social networks influence an individual’s absorptive capacity on an adaptation of the individual learning behaviour. A quantitative approach is used to assess the presence of a causal relationship from the constructs mentioned above. Data were collected from university students in Australia to examine the hypotheses. With 199 responses, a partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) approach was used for the analysis. The results generated mixed findings. Individual’s technological belief in optimism and innovation and social influences had a significantly weaker effect on individual absorptive capacity, which in turn had a significantly weaker impact on their learning behaviour.

PurposeThis paper aims to analyse customer experience in a hotel and its impact on customer attitudes to both the individual hotel and the hotel chain. Specifically, the study focuses on the effects of service perceptions on emotions, satisfaction, attitude to hotel chain, intention to return, scepticism towards negative information and Word of Mouth (WOM).Design/methodology/approachAn empirical study was carried out on a sample of 300 individuals. Data were analysed through structural equation modelling.FindingsService perceptions and emotions elicited by an individual hotel influence the customer response towards the hotel chain. Among all the outcomes considered, the strongest effects are found on WOM.Originality/valueThis paper develops and empirically tests an original model that integrates the customer experience in an individual hotel and the customer response to the hotel chain. This model includes variables that have recently been considered in the literature, such as scepticism towards negative information, in combination with more traditional outcomes such as intention to return or WOM.

Background. Previous studies of parental discipline have identified little influence of heritability on parental control, and some influence of gene–environment correlations, shared environment and child temperament.Method. Using interview data from 2003 female twins from a population-based twin registry and 1472 of their parents, we examined reports of parental discipline from four perspectives: (1) father and mother reporting separately on the type of discipline they provided for their offspring; (2) each twin reporting on the type of discipline they received from their parents; (3) each parent reporting on the discipline provided by their spouse; and, (4) each twin reporting on the discipline they provided for their own offspring. Using factor analysis and univariate structural equation modelling, we examined the structure of parental discipline, and the genetic and environmental influences thereon.Results. The seven discipline items yielded two factors, physical discipline and limit setting, which were moderately positively correlated. Parents perceived discipline as largely a common environmental experience for the twins, whereas the twins indicated that discipline was influenced by unique environmental factors and the genotype of the child. Twins as parents indicated no influence of shared environment on discipline, with the majority of influence accounted for by non- shared environment and parental genotype.Conclusions. Parents recall providing similar discipline to their children, whereas children emphasize the differences in parental discipline. Sources of individual variation in parental discipline vary according to which family member report is examined. In total, parental discipline is partially influenced by the genotype of both the parent and child, and by environmental factors shared by the twins and unique to the individual.

Effect of multicollinearity often occurs. These constraints canbe decreased by using step by step path analysis and selection ofindependent variable with stepwise method of direct observation. Theexperiment was conducted on the pyrethrum population planted at KP.Gunung Putri, Cianjur, about 1400 m above sea level and Andosol of soiltype from January until December 2007. The research aimed toinvestigate several important characters of 83 clones of pyrethrumgermplasm collection planted in January 2007 with 30 cm x 40 cmplanting distance. The simple random sampling of 5 plants per clone(totally 415 samples), step by step path analysis based on plant growingcycle, confirmed model analyzed by Structure Equation Modelling (SEM),and selection of independent variable with stepwise method were used inthis study. Result showed that: (1) there are three important characters tobe used in selection program of pyrethrum at early stage i.e.: number ofleaflets/plant, number of tillers/plant, and height of plant. Length ofcorolla is important character for selection at late stage, and (2) for highyield of fresh flower, positive selection was made on number ofleaflets/plant and number of tillers/plant, and negative selection was doneon plant height and length of corolla.

Key words : Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium Trev., correlation, pathanalysis, SEM

The objective of the study was to assess the effect of risk assessment on fraud prevention in banking industry in Kenya. The study involved all banks in Kenya. Descriptive and correlational research designs were used in this study. Factor analysis was undertaken to reduce the factors and remain with factors that had higher loading which was determined through the use of Eigen values. Correlation analysis was applied to determine the strength and direction of relationship between variables and regression analysis based on structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to test the hypothesis. The descriptive analysis showed that the respondents strongly agreed that the parameters put in place are capable of preventing fraud in banks. The hypothesis testing showed that risk assessment has significant effect on fraud prevention in banking industry in Kenya. From the results of tests, it was concluded that the risk assessment mechanisms put in place to assess the risks have significant effect in fraud prevention and as such they should be enhanced to completely prevent fraud in banking sector.

Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) are adopted with the aim of facilitating knowledge flow within the organization. However, it is seen that member participation on these platforms is limited. The objective of this work is to identify aspects that influence intention to seek knowledge on KMS. Antecedents to knowledge seeking behaviour were identified through a morphological review of literature. A conceptual model was proposed based on the Decomposed Theory of Planned Behaviour. Structural Equation Modelling was used to assess the adequacy of the model. Results show that seeking happens when the individual has an intrinsic motivation to learn and when the quality of knowledge available on KMS is perceived as having high content value. Interestingly, we find that top management has no bearing on one’s intention to seek. Findings reveal that HR activities need to identify people management practices, such as hiring people with a curious disposition and promoting seeking as a positive behaviour. KM practices need to focus on stimulating curiosity and learning amongst members.

This study identified environmental factors that influence perceptions of urban ecotourism among host communities, with specific reference to city parks in South Africa's Gauteng Province. This research adopted a quantitative approach, using the survey methodology in which 378 community members from Ivory Park, Ebony Park and Kaalfontein were given detailed questionnaires. The collected data were analysed utilising exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and structural equation modelling, by means of the Smart PLS software. The results of the exploratory factor analysis showed that, for the environment impact construct, four factors were extracted: rules, nature conservation, participation and environmental benefits. The results of the structural equation modelling established that there is a positive and significant
