Fast and unambiguous determination of EPA and DHA content in oil of selected strains of algae and cyanobacteria

Microalgae may contain large quantities of high-quality EPA and DHA. Therefore, they are considered as a potential source of these important fatty acids. Microalgae can be grown autotrophically on cheap substrates with light. This type of cultivation can be used to maximize the EPA and DHA content in microalgae, making the production of EPA and DHA possible on a large scale. In the present study ten different microalgae were screened for EPA and DHA contents as possible candidates for cultivation in bioreactors.

ABSTRAK Telah dilakukan penelitian mengenai kandungan lemak dan komposisi asam-asam lemak pada bagian badan ikan julung-julung. Penentuan kadar lemak pada penelitian ini menggunakan metode ekstraksi pemanasan dengan air (wet rendering). Kadar lemak pada bagian badan ikan julung-julung yaitu 0,02%. Ekstrak lemak ikan yang diperoleh di transesterifikasi basa menggunakan metode derivatisasi kemudian diinjeksikan pada alat kromatografi gas. Hasil penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa asam-asam lemak utama yang ada pada bagian badan ikan julung-julung adalah asam palmitat dan DHA. Sedangkan untuk asam-asam lemak omega-3 yang diperoleh yaitu asam eikosatrienoat, EPA dan DHA, dengan total kandungan omega-3 pada bagian badan yaitu 27,0%. ABSTRACT Research has been conducted for the fat content and composition of fatty acids in the part of body of the julung-julung fish. Determination of fat content in this study using the method of water heating extraction (wet rendering). Fat content in the part of body of the julung-julung fish is 0.02%. The extract of fish fat was transesterified bases using the derivatization method and then injected on a gas chromatography device. The results of this study prove that the main fatty acids present in the part of body of the julung-julung fish are palmitic acid and DHA. As for the omega-3 fatty acids obtained, namely eicosatrienoic acid, EPA and DHA, with the total omega-3 content in the part of body is 27.0%.

Enzymatic reetherification of fats has numerous technological and economic advantages, which makes its large-scale implementation highly efficient. Unlike chemical modification, enzymatic reetherification demonstrates a greater specificity, typical of the catalytic action of lipase, and a higher controllability. Lipases with positional specificity cause redistribution of fatty acids to occur only in extreme provisions of triglycerides. In addition, this method is 1.5 times lower than hydrogenation of fats. The authors used the facilities of an innovative laboratory provided by JSC Eurasian Foods Corporation to conduct practical research on reetherification of fatty mixes. The main objective was to study the effect of the fats obtained by fermental reetherification on the quality indicators of butterfat substitutes. The research featured the input products to be used in the formula of reetherified fat and prepared fat mixes for butterfat substitutes. The paper describes the process of enzymatic reetherification of mixes of oils and fats, prepared reesterified fats, and buttermilk substitutes obtained from reetherified fats. The process involved a sequence of reactors filled with Lipozyme TL IM, a granulated substance of a microbic 1.3-specific lipase. The lipase was obtained from Thermomyces Lanuginosus, which had been immobilized with silica gel. The obtained products conformed to the butterfat standards in that they contained 16–2% of polynonsaturated fatty acids, no transisomers of fatty acids, ≤ 38% of palmitiny acid, and ≤ 5% of solid triglycerides at 35 of °C. The melting temperature was under body heat. The resulting characteristics of butterfat substitutes make them high-quality dairy products.

Due to the growing demand for food sources, it is increasingly common to opt for entomophagy, in addition to contributing to the control of grasshopper Brachystola magna (Girard) insect considered a harmful pest for agriculture in the regions where it lives. In this study, a nutritional characterization on the grasshopper B. magna in four different stages of its biological cycle (egg, nymph 3, nymph 4 and adult) was performed. In the adult stage, values of protein and lipid content of 64.7 and 8.2%, respectively, were obtained through proximal chemical analysis. For the determination of fatty acids and minerals the techniques of gas chromatography and atomic absorption spectroscopy were used. The results of fatty acids and minerals indicated a high content of both, unsaturated fatty acids of eighteen carbons, especially oleic, and the minerals K+1, Mg+2 and Ca+2 with a relatively low presence of Na+1 due to its peculiar source of feed (bean). The results suggest that Brachystola magna (Girard) could be a potential source of consumption for healthy people and people with specific needs (people with cardiovascular problems of high protein requirements, such as caloric-protein malnutrition and bodybuilding).

We develop a curvature specification scheme in which the constraint effects of a localized gravitational potential source on the Hubble expansion comprises the characteristics of the large scale dynamics of the entire universe. Our result is a composite curvature model which has a dynamical Euclidean horizon (of zero curvature) that provides an alternative to the event horizon in the determination of the local scale evolution of space–time.

AbstractPrecise measurements of heliographic position of solar filaments were used for determination of the proper motion of solar filaments on the time-scale of days. The filaments have a tendency to make a shaking or waving of the external structure and to make a general movement of whole filament body, coinciding with the transport of the magnetic flux in the photosphere. The velocity scatter of individual measured points is about one order higher than the accuracy of measurements.

At present, the problem of establishing disability is a point at issue in Russia. Despite the fact that medical criteria for disability are being developed very actively, high-quality methods for assessing social hallmarks are still lacking. Since disability is a phenomenon inherent in any society, each state forms a social and economic policy for people with disabilities in accordance with its level of development, priorities and opportunities. We have proposed a three-stage model, which includes a system for the consistent solution of the main tasks aimed at studying the causes and consequences of the problems encountered today in the social protection of citizens with health problems. The article shows why the existing approaches to the determination of disability and rehabilitation programs do not correspond to the current state of Russian society and why a decrease in the rate of persons recognized as disabled for the first time does not indicate an improvement in the health of the population. The authors proposed a number of measures with a view to correcting the situation according to the results of the study.
