The article discusses the importance of taking into account the religious factor in the implementation of sustainable development plans for modern cities based on the analysis of the UN integrated program New Urban Agenda. Urbanization is one of the challenges that is significantly changing the geopolitical and religious landscape. The multi-million-strong concentration of people with different worldviews and cultural traditions in a megalopolis creates a lot of technological and humanitarian problems not only for a particular country, but for the world as a whole. In this regard, the role of large cities as global policy actors is increasing. The UN developed a comprehensive program New Urban Agenda (2016), which is aimed at the sustainable development of the modern city. This program ignores the role of the religious factor in solving socio-economic and humanitarian problems caused by growing urbanization. Despite the crisis state of some religions in various parts of the world, the number of people who engage in religious activities is growing, and today there are 84 per cent of such people. The social activities of various religious organizations are respected, and they make a significant contribution to the sustainable development of the modern city. The role of religious organizations at the local level is particularly significant. It is necessary to mention the ambivalent role of religion, namely, the manifestations of its disintegrating function: intolerance of other beliefs, refusal to observe the secular norms of the community, extremist appeals and terrorist acts under religious slogans. Addressing the issue of the public role of religion and the use and interpretation of religious symbols is one of the problems of sustainable urban development. The idea of just and peaceful coexistence in a modern city cannot be realized without a constructive dialogue between state, public and religious organizations. Of particular interest is the Rabat Plan (2017) by religious organizations to promote the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. Religious organizations can make a constructive contribution to economic progress not only by making substantial financial contributions, but also by demonstrating the practical implementation of the moral values of mutual understanding and respect.

This article discusses the role of women in supporting sustainable tourism development in Bali by promoting Balinese cuisine to the tourism world. To date, studies on the role of Balinese women in the tourism industry have looked mainly at women as ordinary workers or professionals. In fact, Balinese women operate as culinary entrepreneurs who have not only been successful in introducing Balinese cuisine to the world of tourism but have opened up job opportunities for men and women alike. The data presented in this article was collected through observation of four leading Balinese women who run successful local culinary outlets or restaurants offering local dishes, and is complemented by interviews and other published sources relating to their business activities. The four pioneering women surveyed are Men Tempeh of Gilimanuk (West Bali) serving chicken betutu, the suckling pig restaurant manager Ibu Oka in Ubud, the owner of Made’s Warung Ni Made Masih, and the catering company owner Ibu Warti Buleleng, based in Denpasar. This article concludes that these four Balinese culinary heroines or srikandi have successfully managed to preserve and promote Balinese dishes to the world of tourism while contributing to the sustainable development of Balinese tourism by providing opportunities for tourists to experience local cuisine.

The role of stakeholders is critical in addressing challenges with or problems in small-scale sports events. The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptions of the event stakeholders toward sports events, with a particular focus on the role of residents in a tourist destination. The goal is to understand their perceptions with respect to different topics and in particular to the sustainable development of the tourist destination. This case study focuses on the World Junior Alpine Ski Championships 2019 in Trentino Val di Fassa—Italy (JWC2019). Applying a mixed methodology, the study analyzes the stakeholders during the sports event (quantitative method) and the point of view of the residents in their stakeholder role after the sports event (qualitative method). The main findings of this study show that residents differ from tourists and other stakeholders in terms of their perception of the event and its strengths. But when it comes to the perceptions regarding the territory, the groups of stakeholders analyzed do not seem to have systematically different opinions. Some paradoxes do, however, emerge with respect to the residents’ awareness of their role as stakeholders and the implications of the event with respect to sustainability and how such an event may underpin a concept of sustainable development for the territory as a whole.

Having fun and buying goods. For the young people of the world between 18 and 25, these are their main concerns on social media, as demonstrated by this study, which aims to identify the interests of global youth and also to unveil religion’s place in this generation (Lim and Parker, 2020; Tilleczek and Campbell, 2019). The role of values and education among them (Zamora-Polo et al., 2020), and the influencers and social leaders they follow are also included among the results of this research, which also plans to discern their potential alignment with the challenges of the Sustainable Development Goals. For this purpose, more than 540 million Facebook and Instagram profiles have been analyzed using social listening (Couldry, 2006) through a Big Data based methodology. The results are new values (Kimball, 2019) and new ways to envisage religion, and depict an evolving landscape with change, culture and consumption pointing the way. The article analyzes the main foreign approaches to the interpretation of the “sustainable development” definition, the directions for the formation of various concepts, programs, political attitudes based on the definition and ideas of sustainable development, identifies shortcomings of the most common approaches and concepts. An overview of the main approaches and theories of sustainable development is compiled, their classification is proposed, a spatial model of the conceptual areas of the concept of “sustainable development” and spheres of its application is presented. The study concluded that the alternative approaches to understanding the role of the environment in the existence of mankind, to the assessment of both the impact of industrial and agricultural production and the results of people’s livelihoods (especially in the context of a sharp increase of urbanization rate) on the global environmental situation, have led to the formation of various concepts of sustainable development that form the basis of national strategies and programs of sustainable development. As a result, the ideas, and the very concept of sustainable development, are increasingly becoming a field of disagreements and contradictions between states and individual regions of the world, rather than a common platform for combining efforts to solve global problems of mankind.

The article analyzes the state of the world fish market, problems and prospects for its development in the context of current trends in the world economy. The authors emphasize the importance of the space allocated to the world fish market in solving global problems of our time, such as fighting hunger, ensuring food security, sustainable development, etc. The article presents the current state of world fishing and fish farming, the main producers and exporters, Russia’s place in this market. Reflected issues related to the role of developing countries in this sector of the economy. Conclusions are drawn about the problems and prospects of the world fish market from the point of view of the sustainable development of the world community and the growth of consumption of this food product by the population of the planet.

Abstract The real estate legislative system is one of the bases of the sustainable development process. This research focuses on the role of the legal system in sustainable development, according to the most prominent relevant international reports. The uae ranked forty-first globally in the Human Development Index (hdi). In the World Bank’s ‘Doing Business Report’, the uae ranked second globally and first in the Middle East and North Africa (mena) for the ‘Dealing with Construction Permits’ indicator. Thus, the Emirate of Dubai is deemed the second-best city in the world in terms of ease of dealing with construction permits. For the ‘Registering Property’ indicator, the uae ranked tenth globally and first in the Middle East and North Africa (mena). Despite the uae’s great achievements in terms of developmental ranking at the global level, there is still more to achieve in the field of development.

Global warming due to greenhouse gas emissions and the growing energy needs of the world, has forced the world into thinking differently about energy sources and sustainable development, giving rise to the field of biofuels. Research and introduction of new technologies do, by their very nature, look to bring about positive change in society. Often though, changes result in unintended, unexpected, unforeseen, unforeseeable and unaddressed consequences. It often becomes the role of ethics protocols to militate against these negative consequences. In trying to establish the levels of awareness among South African researchers and producers of biofuels, to the sustainable development dilemmas brought about by their work; the “Five Capitals Framework” and a research ethics protocol, research was carried out at three South African businesses, generating data from interviews and collaborating with data from company publications. The study concluded that industry was indeed aware of the dilemmas that face their industry albeit that it was not in the context of a defined necessary framework.
