Non-formal education can help solve many problems in protected areas. In mostly all protected areas in Lithuania are educational activities – and this is one of aim of this institutions and also one of the educational components. Recently, but both the pupils and the public interest in science education has decreased. The protected areas organized various educational activities but by the research data 29 % respondents are not visited protected areas and not interested in them. The analysis of proposed educational activities in protected areas and opinions of the respondents, it is noted that the most popular educational activity in Lithuania is the tour (51.3 %). But sometimes the tour is called education. Only the Curonian Spit National Park carried out a study educational project with a local school, and only in Samogitia (Žemaitija) National park is the eco-education center.

The concept of «continuing professional development» does not have an unambiguous scientific and normative definition and it complicates its use in the practice of educational activities and in the texts of draft regulations governing adult education. The purpose of the article is to clarify the content of the concept « continuing professional development «and determine the advisability of its use to characterize educational activities and their results in the field of in-service education. Based on the comparative analysis of the content of the concept «continuing professional development «from various normative and scientific sources, the author’s interpretation of the content of the analyzed conceptual construct is formulated. It is concluded that teachers` continuing professional development is a type of educational activity within adult education, which is carried out in accordance with established procedural requirements and the result of which are professional competencies which defined by the educational program or contract, developed in non-formal or in formal education and approved by professional standards and areas of professional development. From a regulatory point of view, not every educational or self-educational activity is a professional development. This activity is admitted only when it is confirmed by the final document of the legitimate provider on the basis of  the developed educational program and under the conditions of observance of the standardized procedure. The issues mentioned in the article have prospects for further research in terms of dividing the competence potential of professional standards of teachers into invariant and variable components, clarification of the invariant component of professionalism as a desired result of teacher training in the implementation of the New Ukrainian School.

During 2020, at the level of legislative initiatives, there is an active discussion about the content of education and outreach activities. Due to the «vagueness» of the concepts of «education» and «educational activity» in academic circles, it is difficult to differentiate various kinds of activities that are valuable in broadcasting high-quality and meaningful information to a wide audience. The authors of the article consider the essential features of education in relation to the objectives of non-formal education and the principles set forth in the Model Law of 2002. The purpose of the article is to propose the author's definition of the concepts of «education» and «educational activity», considering the educational and educational potential in the conditions of mediatization of information and communication, leisure and educational environment. The empirical basis of the article is the materials of scientific publications, the content of the Model Law «On educational activities» and the Concept of educational activities presented in «Education for the future». Research results: 1. The authors considered the connection between education and educational activities, carried out their substantive analysis, determined their mission and revealed their mechanisms and principles of organization. 2. The qualitative component of educational activities is considered both at the level of providing the opportunity to carry out worldview, value-orientated, educational functions, and at the level of particular practices. 3. The principles of educational activities are determined.

National parks have been adopted for over a century to enhance the protection of valued natural landscapes in countries worldwide. For decades, China has emphasized the importance of economic growth over ecological health to the detriment of its protected areas. After decades of environmental degradation, dramatic loss of biodiversity, and increasing pressure from the public to improve and protect natural landscapes, China’s central government recently proposed the establishment of a pilot national park system to address these issues. This study provides an overview of the development of selected conventional protected areas (CPAs) and the ten newly established pilot national parks (PNPs). A literature review was conducted to synthesize the significant findings from previous studies, and group workshops were conducted to integrate expert knowledge. A qualitative analysis was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the pilot national park system. The results of this study reveal that the PNP system could be a potential solution to the two outstanding issues facing CPAs, namely the economic prioritization over social and ecological considerations that causes massive ecological degradation, and the conflicting, overlapping, and inconsistent administrative and institutional structures that result in serious inefficiencies and conflicts.

The ageing population of developed countries poses a challenge to State policy. At the same time, decreasing number of births increased the risk of negative natural growth. There is a shortage of manpower in the labour market. These and other indicators allow us to state that society will need its seniors in the public space. An extended life expectancy changes the perception of elderly people as an irreplaceable reservoir of resources of experienced professionals. This imposes a public obligation to conduct promotional activities in the direction of family policy, including elderly people. At the same time, elderly people themselves need a permanent education space adapted to their needs. This article presents the situation of elderly people, especially their opportunities in the area of educational activity in the situation of retirement. It tries to show how the requirement of informal and non-formal education becomes an obligation, and how much it is perceived by elderly people as external coercion.

The article deals with various aspects of the problem of choice in education. The authors analyze differences between subjects of educational activity in understanding of its purposes and definition of the necessary content of education. This discrepancy is due to both objective and subjective reasons. The interests of different subjects in education (training, student, state, civil society) can both coincide and compete and it leads to various forms of organization of educational activities. Considering the aims of education the authors turn to the ideas of Russian philosophy comparing such phenomena as "formal education" aimed at the development of intellectual abilities and "real education", solving the problem of knowledge transfer to the younger generation. Separately, we pointed out the importance of "educational knowledge" as a form of human knowledge and personal development. Taking into consideration the previous argument, we consider education in the context of its orientation on the principle of "future-present". Focus on the future implies its prediction. Possible mismatch of the desired results (forecast) with real achievements leads to a variety of risks of educational activities. Reducing this kind of risk is possible if we consider education as a mechanism for the formation of the "world of the future", a mechanism that contributes to building a more "predictable" reality. The implementation of the idea of "education with low significance of methodological pluralism", which involves the rejection of strict adherence to certain rules of activity, is considered as a strategy that does not involve focus on the future. In this case, the goal is not the result presented, for example, in the form of a set of knowledge, but the educational process itself. The study points to the prospects of studying education outside the time frame and considering it as a neverending process of human formation. The authors substantiate the idea of "continuous education" structuring human life in a certain way and promoting a compromise of interests of all subjects of educational activity.

In Africa, protected areas are facing hudge illegal exploitations and accelerated degradation. Illegal exploitations are interesting indicators of local socio-economic needs and hostility of populations to conservation activities. The study aimed to develop a specific method for the analysis of illegal exploitations and the promotion of successful participatory management. Basically, the Multicriteria method used to determine the impact and the gravity of illegal exploitations relies on three criteria based on offenses themselves and affected resources. The method combines statistical analysis of management data using ANOVA and χ² tests, field observations and semi-structured interviews for validation. For the tested Rusizi national Park, the findings showed that the number of supervised exploitations increased from 1988 to 2015 while the number of supervised operators is limited and highly fluctuating between resources and periods. The public integration ratio is 8 0/000 and corresponds to 61 supervised operators of which 84% are involved in vegetal resources exploitations. In total, 10 illegal exploitations whose impact values range from 1 to 20 and belong to very high and high impact classes were reported.  Average, 651 cases of which 71% cover direct cuts of vegetation were reported annually. Statistically, the most damaging illegal exploitations are made of tree and vegetation cuts, cattle grazing and fishing. Illegal exploitations are seasonal and more important in dry season than in rainy season. They are more important in Delta sector than in Palmeraie sector. The shift from gracious exploitations to lucrative operations, over-taxation of supervised exploitations, low ratio of public integration, political conflicts and unarmed protection contributed to increase and strengthen significantly illegal exploitations. Ultimately, the results revealed the limits of participatory management on illegal exploitations. Consequently, the success of participatory management in Rusizi national Park requires strategic and concerted development projects, more responsive regulatory measures and relevant partnerships with peripheral village.

A large increase in visitation has recently been observed in Brazilian protected areas. The presence of visitors can cause changes in the environment, generating certain unwanted impacts. Therefore, the objective of this study is to assess the visitation at Caparaó National Park, map the main trails open to the public, and determine their degree of degradation. To define the most relevant trails for this study, the following criteria were used: visitation demand, impact intensity, and zoning. The elevation profile and other physical attributes of the selected trails were obtained by GPS. Erosion was established as the predominant impact, and the length of eroded stretches on each trail was evaluated. The trail to Pico da Bandeira through Casa Queimada has a greater declivity, and, although it sees fewer visitors than the trail to Pico da Bandeira through Tronqueira, it shows a higher erosion rate. This result indicates that, in certain cases, the declivity can contribute more significantly to the increase in erosion than the number of visitors.
